LD24 August 24–27, 2012

I’m (for lack of a better term) in!

So I’ll be doing the Jam this time, very big plans for it… More to be announced about that later on!

Pumped to be entering, I’ll have NeiloGD coming around to my place for a few days and we’ll be working on a game. Should be awesome!

So, now for the nitty gritty stuff…

Tools

Language: c++
Libraries: Psybrus engine, and whatever is plugged into that
Editor: Visual Studio 2010 C++ Express
Graphics: I won’t be touching this stuff… More on that later
Audio: See: Graphics

Long story short, I’m excited. Everyone should be! (I’m looking at you voxel)

Music Authoring on the Cheap

If I don’t make a finished game in two weeks, terrible things will happen.

Okay, so in the past few days, I’ve been practicing content generation. I wasn’t actually planning on sharing any of it just because that would take several minutes out of my day, but considering how long it took me to make this song and how much it would benefit me to be able to use it once the competition starts, I changed my mind.

I found this handy web-based sequencer yesterday called Soundation. It comes with effects, some nice instruments, a large handful of free samples, automation, recording… knobs of all sorts… uh, buttons. It’s pretty decent software, especially considering how free it is. Check it out.

Anyway, I made this untitled horror theme. It sucks. I really just wanted to hurry up and get it done, but I might fix it up later. I also have the source available if anyone else is interested in fixing it up.

Good luck!

EDIT: Looking back through the rules, I now realize I’m not allowed to use this the song I attached here. I don’t think I like that.

Are you sure it’s not allowed? Because you can use samples as long as “you have the legal right to use them.” Content-generators are also allowed and I think they are an even more time efficient way of producing music than soundation.

Yeah, you can use Soundation, definitely, including any of the samples included in it. I can’t use the song I attached here, though. That was just a poor choice of words in the edit.

I’m in? Nope!

Unluckily, I’ll be in a camp, so I won’t be able to participate. Because there shall be no connection to the Internet. I won’t even know the theme. But I’ll make a game anyway.

Generic “I’m in” title three

For the third, technically fourth, time, my team is going to do the Ludum Dare jam. We made a tech demo the first time, we pretty much finished the game the second time but had everything explode 8 hours before the end of the jam because of a bug in the library I was using (which was fixed a bit over a week later -_-). Now we’re hoping to pull off what we did in Ludum Dare 23 but, this time, not have everything explode at the end. Especially because the language I’m using added a real debugger since the last Ludum Dare.

So with that, I say, “I’m in!”

Language: Monkey
Graphics: Graphics Gale, and possibly Photoshop
Text Editors: Jungle IDE, and possibly Notepad++
Music / Audio: MakeMusic Finale, Audacity, Bfxr and/or Sfxr

My Team
Nicholas Grant (Me) – Leader, Lead Programmer, Backup for anything uncovered
Michael Grant (Bro) – Lead Character Spriter, Lead Sound and Music, Co-Lead Writer
Elena Cordero – Lead Tileset Spriter, Lead Organization and Management, Co-Lead Writer
Eric Rodriguez – Programmer-in-training, Lead “I forgot the directions and got lost for the fourth time in a six month span,” Lead of Magical Math, Hot Dog Tester, and Half-Hispanic; Half-White Guy

I am in, Am I in?

This will be my 4th LD. I did quite well in my 1st and 2nd. On my 3rd I ended up not competing, and posting some hilariously misspelt and incoherent blog posts, due to a self inflicted illness. (Don’t binge drink, kids)

The weekend of the jam I’ll be moving house so I’ll probably focus on getting a fast prototype that works with a touch screen. That is all I seem to be coding in work at the moment.

I have some rules for jams, 1st timers may find interesting.
http://wtapps.blogspot.co.uk/p/so-you-want-to-jam.html

GLHF!

I’m IN!!!!

I’m in for my (technically) first 42hr LD.

I (hopefully) will not be making a text game this time, but that’s if I can get collision physics to work in processing. 😛

If not, I’ll be making a rogue-like 😛

I’ll detail the tools I’m going to be using later

good luck to everyone else involved!

*24 hour?

Not in this time

Alas, I cannot enter this time… school exams and such… OH WELL

but fun fact August 25th is my birthday so you guys are all giving me games for my birthday!!!

Last time was my first time and I came 20th for fun and 52nd overall… pretty good! Here’s my tips:

Pro-Tip for first timers:

  • Buy/read the game jam survival guide
  • Prepare – read people’s tips and suggestions, like you’re doing now  😀
  • Stick to what you know / If you want to use anything new practice it now.
  • Get in the community: Get on the IRC/test peoples game/get people to test your games. I actually probably had the most doing this  😀 (also don’t worry if you don’t think your game is as good as other peoples, not every game be ANT SURF HERO)
  • Everyone is a winner! Just make something you want to make.
  • Kittennnnns

I’m in for the Ludum Dare, just like the last time… Obviously!

Hello everyone, my name is Alex! I suppose that was some strange kind of SeaNanner’ish introduction of myself.

Just wanted to say that I’m signing in for the next Ludum Dare – LD24 – Or whatever it is (o_o) Hopefully going to be as exciting as last time it was.. If you’d like to refresh your skills or follow me personally, go to my Youtube channel and either watch my Java tutorials or my update videos for the Ludum Dare.

Thank y0u for reading – Kind Regards,
Alex (Ulixava)

Haha I recognize that name! 😀

No, really, you’re on my Skype >.<

I’m HALF in…!

Hello LDer’s!

So this time around I thought I’d get involved and actually make something for a change and I really can’t wait for it, the only problem this time around is that I’m also heading to Unite which ends the day that LD begins. So I may get some time after I’m back to create something within the timeframe (which I think might even be 24 hours by the time I’m back in the UK)

However, I will be submitting something, even if it’s terrible!

Tools of choice this time around are:

  • Unity
  • Monodevelop (Pretty much because it comes bundled with Unity..)
  • Some sort of music / sound synthesizer (any suggestions?)
  • Cubes – Because every good prototype is made with just cubes right (more because I have the artistic talent of a ham sandwich)
  • Twitch.tv for streaming
  • Something to screen-capture to

Anyway, looking forward to seeing what everyone comes out with this time around and can’t wait to get to making some games!

(Also if your heading to Unite, give me a shout!)

Aww and here I thought I was going to be original with my cube-based Unity game :( Ah well I suppose I could make another Minecraftish game because there aren’t that many clones yet… Anyway “good luck and have fun” 😛

Respawn!

I’m in again!

I’m going to use Flashpunk again – although I hope I can make the transition to something 3D  next time

tools:

  • FlashDevelop 4.0.4
  • Flex 4.6.0
  • Flashpunk 1.6
  • Ogmo Editor 2.0.0.40
  • GIMP 2.8
  • GraphicsGale Free Edition 1.93.19
  • Audacity 2.0.1
  • sfxr
  • Autotracker-C
  • gedit 3.2.6
  • Resource Hacker 3.6.0
  • lots of coffee
also – august 19th is my 24th birthday so this must give me some extra luck or something ^^

I’m in. I hope.

So, I ‘competed’ in the last miniLD. That was my first experience of a gamejam, and it was fantastic. I’ve been looking at the big-boy’s proper full-on Ludum Dare for a long time, with dreams of entering. I think this is the one. 24 Here I come.

So, here we go:

I’m in.

I hope.

I could code all day long, but nobody else in the house understands. They don’t even know what a jam is, and what it means to me.  So, knowing my luck, the jam weekend will be the one where my mother decides to kick me off the computer or my brother decides he wants to spend all day playing his god-awful golf sim.

If it were up to me, I’d be coding for every one of the 48 hours.  But, life tends to jump in the way every time I try.

So, fingers crossed, hopes up, star firmly wished upon.

I’m in.

Switch: a (very) late Contrast entry!

Hello everyone,

I made a mini-game called “Switch”. It was meant to be for the MiniLD 36 with the theme Contrasts, but I was busy then and could not get to work on the game. I still wanted to make the game though and I finished it today in Processing (I love Processing; almost no “housekeeping” code).

How to play: Move the mouse so that the green ball only travels on the white areas. Click to swap black for white and vice versa. Press ‘r’ to reset the game. Try to finish the track!

Thanks for the comment and the idea 😀

Declaring stuff

Hey guys,

So I’m in. I will be creating a game using my trusty guitar.

What do you mean you can’t make games with that? Alright I guess I’ll use Unity and Max and a dozen other tertiary tools then.

Rock on!

-Matthew

I’m In! (Or maybe not)

It was a cool experience, the last LD Compo. So, I think I’m re-doin’ it!

Well, PROBABLY, because I’m really not sure if I’ll be busy or not in the next 3 weeks. I’ll try to make a good game anyways, and I don’t care if I can’t finish it for the Compo, I will pass the next 24 hours improving my game and subbing it to the Jam. All that counts for me is to make a game, and to give my best!

I will use GM 8.0 as always, and maybe MMMMX Premium for the sounds, music and stuff.

Well, in bocca al lupo!

My First Ludum Dare!

He-He-Hello there game developers, this is going to be my first Ludum Dare. Participating in, at the very least. I’ve been lurking in the shadows since LD20. I’ve finally decided to give it a chance, and I hope it won’t bite me in the back like the chance I gave my last girlfriend. As for what I will be using to develop the game..

-The PyGame library for Python, for coding

-Python, for coding

-Gimp, for graphics

-Audacity, for audio and sound.

Probably going to use Kevin MacLeod’s royalty free music like every other Ludum Dare contestant ever.

As for who I am, I am a student, aspiring programmer, and gamer. If you want to know more about me, my blog is at http://thetyk.webs.com/ – And my twitter is at https://twitter.com/TKia_

Wish me luck on my first Ludum Dare

You probably know this, but just in case, you can only use music made by other people in the Jam. So, if you wanna use Kevin MacLeod, you can’t do the 48 hour compo. Just clearing that up.

source profit?

ok,im going to be in the ludum dare…and i ask myself one question…HOW AM I GOING TO POST MY SOURCE IN GM?!?!

let me clarify: gamemaker is a DRAG AND DROP application…but since there is gml (witch ill be using, dont worry!) can i post the source i have in gml insted of the drag and drop actions,or do i have to show ALL the source? if so,then cant i make it open sourced insted of .exe? but if i do use .exe, how am i going to show the drag and drop source?

if you have any ideas please help me! and those who have experience with ludums with gamemaker please help me! D;

I would think that zipping up and submitting the working gamemaker file (.gm8 or whatever the current extension is) counts since it contains all your scripts and drag and drop actions and such.

but how would others be able to play it if they had to download gamemaker before playing?

Yeah, just submit the final game maker project file as Source and submit the EXE as the game or whatever. :)

My first taste of Jam.

Mmmm Jam….

This is my first time entering Ludum dare, and shouldn’t be my last. I will be entering the jam with my friend. Me on the code, him on the pixels. Here is a brief tool list:

  • Eclipse IDE: Because my language of choice is Java
  • Paint.net: My nooby image editor for quick sketches and minor image fixes
  • Flash Pro 8: The other guy’s image editor of choice.
  • LWJGL and Slick2d Libraries
  • My imagination: Not much left, gunna have to squeeze it a bit.
I cant wait for the compo! Looking forward to it greatly.

Java Applet suggestions

Hi everyone. I am planning on using a Java Applet for the up-coming LD. I wanted to know if people preferred an Applet over the internet or a locally ran Windowed game, or even the ability to run an Applet locally. All criticism welcomed!

I prefer not downloading things just because it takes more time. But you should definitely keep it an option for other people. The more options you have (web, windows, mac, etc.) the more people can vote your game :)
11. Aug 2012 · 00:54 UTC
Make both of them, since it’s easy to done in java. Just insert few lines more :)

I suppose that if I make it primarily a web game it should run on all OS’, thanks to Javas handy “compile once run anywhere” feature. But if I have time I will give the option to download it too. 😀

Looking forward to LD#24

I’m in and looking forward to LD#24.

My entry for LD#23 tr-3012 was primarily a musical instrument, a drum machine with five independent looping triggers identified by robots.

This time I think I’ll go for making a more traditional game.

Tools:

Processing
ChucK
LiCK
IanniX
MeeBlip synth
Inkscape
Pickle
Tiled
Personal FOSS libraries (Piccolo2D, dishevelled.org, various Processing libraries)

I am in!

Title says it all 😀

I am going to develop the whole thing in Java with the API LWJGL and maybe Slick-Util, but I am not sure about Slick-Util because the only thing i need from it is the texture loading which isn’t too much of a deal to write it by myself. :)

Tools which I will use:

  • Eclipse
  • Gimp
  • My Brain O_o
