LD24 August 24–27, 2012

First blood!

My first Luuuuudum – I hope this is going to be a blast :)

CODE: C++ with cocos2dx (and own extensions, “thois2dx”)

GRAPHICS: Gimp, SpriteHelper and Pixen

SOUND: cfxr and Audacity for sounds. I’ll try to create some music with garage band – maybe it won’t sound THAT bad 😉

For maps/level and stuff: Tiled

Next weekend, can’t wait :)

I’m in

Hi , I’m Maik Macho . This will be my second LD ( my last one failed due to inproper map generating code ) .

Tools and stuff I will use :

Language : Java

Libraries : LWJGL

Imaging : Gimp , Pickle

(*)Sounds : SFXR , BFXR , FL Studio

(*)Mapping : TilED

CodeBase : IGM2E TBOTW-PM-Port-Build ( Latest stable , replaces IGM2E itself but IGM2E may contain changes the port-build will contain )

Library sources / modified libraries : Parts of JPlayground , Custom Slick2D Source Build ( custom maploading ‘n stuff )
If you ask yourself :

” What is IGM2E ? What is IGM2E TBOTW-PM-Port-Build ? ”

IGM2E ( IndividualGameModifyable2Engine ) is the engine I used my last LD ( build 1 beta 1 ) . This time I will use build 1 beta 2 , but because of me working more for TBOTW-PM ( the PostMortem of TBOTW ) than the engine , I may modify TBOTW-PM to the engine itself and call it build 1 beta 3 . TBOTW-PM is already a frozen project .

Hopefully I will focus on code and then later on graphics this time .

Good luck to you all ,

Angel

(*) means added with edit because I forgott to write it in here

LD 24 – Our Team’s Target platforms

As mentioned in our declaration post, we’re going to use Unity for our game engine. What we can say for now is that we intend to target Android as our first platform. If all goes according to plan, this will be our initial entry with ports to web and desktop to follow.

Our test suite

Team dr_soda’s test suite for Ludum Dare 24

We’ll at least test it (if not have it working perfectly) on
  • Droid 3
  • Asus Transformer Prime
  • Nexus 7

This should cover the most common form factors: a phone, a 10 inch tablet, and a 7 inch tablet.

Why Android first?

Our game ideas really revolve around taking advantage of the unique feature sets that mobile devices offer for gameplay mechanics. Some of these ideas might be portable to desktop or web, but not all of them have a direct analog. We’ll port if possible, but otherwise we’re sticking with our vision.

I will be using:

Code: Python 3.2.3 with Pyglet 1.2 alpha

Graphics:  GIMP

Audio: SFXR, BFXR, Audacity (I am not good with audio)

Packaging:  Probably cx_freeze although I havn’t used it before.

Don’t put yourself down, you can totally finish! There is no difference between you and the people who do finish, apart from motivation.

Look, a fellow pyglet!

I might be able to do this

I’ve been working on a game as a warm up to the LD, to get my brain in gear. This morning I realised that the code I had for the level design will not work/be very hard and laborious(is that a word?) to program 😛

So all of a sudden my self-esteem has gone out of the window, and I’m on the verge of sinking into one of my progrmming depressions ¬_¬ add to that the fact that the computers in our house are all over the place and one of the ones I set up to use, I don’t know whether I will be able to use it on friday – saturday.

So, I might be participating, I might not. If I am able to, you can expect something graphical this time round.

Good luck to all of the people who are taking part and (hopefully) see you on IRC next weekend!

Well, look at it like this. Now that you’ve realized the level design code isn’t gonna work out beforehand, you have the chance to fix it now! From that angle, it’s definitely a good thing.

Quick change of mind

So, I’m gonna use HTML5/JavaScript and all that, but I leave out the LimeJS part. I just feel uncomfortable using libraries. I don’t know why. That’s all.

Ludum Dare 24 Theme Voting Begins!

Theme voting has begun! Tune in every day this week for a new round of themes. *

[ ROUND 1 | ROUND 2 | ROUND 3 ]
[ ROUND 4 | FINAL ROUND ]

Special thanks to Sos for helping us run the Theme Slaughter, and Sorceress for helping prune duplicates and repeat themes.

* Links above in Bold are still open. If you haven’t cast a vote yet, click the link to do it. End times for each round vary, and many cross over. Due to PoV being away all day Thursday, Final Round will begin sometime Wednesday Evening (EST). (Old Links)

* If you get an error message about needing to log in to vote, and you are already logged in, then try refreshing your browser (CTRL+F5).

In Again!

I’m so ready for a weekend of jamming!  I said last time I’d try to use some form of middleware this time, but I’m not entirely sure what I’m going to do.  I haven’t had the time to check out unity or unreal yet as I’ve been converting my LD21 game into an xbox live indie game, so I’m still very much in an XNA frame of mind.

We shall see, have a week to think about it!  Here’s a screeny from my upcoming game.  It is Escape from Cube mountain redone with some rpg stuff and xbox avatars.

You could always make an XNA Windows game.

I usually do yea. My last 3 have been xna windows. Some people are reluctant to play windows exes, but I am not very good at 2D art. The crappy icons in that screenshot took me DAYS haha.

Recruitment drive

If there are any people out there who are looking for a team for LD, we are here! People we are looking most are writers and artists; however, Java (Slick2D) programmers are welcome aboard as well. Currently we have one programmer, one designer/writer, one composer and one artist, but the more the merrier!

Last time we did this: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-23/?action=preview&uid=7122

Please respond here or mail me: iselwin at gmail.com

Sure, I’ll participate

I guess I’ll participate in the next Ludum Dare. I’ll use the opportunity to work on a personal library of mine that’s currently in an early stage.

Not sure what tools I’ll use except Java and lwjgl. Probably GIMP and audacity along with some program to write music too.

Anyway, just wanted to declare my use of a personal library. That’s all.

I am In

Hello Ludum Dare
This will be my fourth time doing Ludum Dare. I have informed my boss and my wife of my intent to go on a programming binge, and once again they are surprisingly supportive. This time I have recorded an I’m in video and posted it here:
http://www.monkeydev.com/pics/ld24_im_in.mov

Hopefully it makes it in the compilation.

I have nothing but love for all my fellow game developers, lets makes something beautiful.

Woo! More LD!

I’ll probably be using Processing again and whatever tools seem handy. I guess I can afford to take a break from doing exclusively math for a weekend. I’m fairly certain hopeful that I don’t have anything else to do in that time.

I’m in…armed with essential new equipment

Same old tools – Unity, Blender, Paint.NET, Audacity, Mixtikl.
But this time I have a WHITEBOARD. With pro resources like that, what can possibly go wrong?
