LD24 August 24–27, 2012

Let’s do it for the second time

I’m in.

Going to manage my time better. And will try to make more than one level this time. ^_^

Language: ActionScript 3

IDE: FDT

Graphics: Blender, Photoshop, TexturePacker

Libraries: Away3D, Starling, Robotlegs

Audio: BFXR

The advice for new comers, don’t play games during compo, it’s time killa.

I’m so excited this compo will be right after my birthday.

WarmUp, Ecosystem

I think i’ve got basics of Unity and actualy create something playable. Theme i’ve got is “Ecosystem”.

Little creation of my mind can be watched there , site should be updated pretty quickly.

Thanks for the sensible critique. Me & my neighbor were just preparing to do some research on this. We got a grab a book from our area library but I think I learned more clear from this post. I am very glad to see such wonderful info being shared freely out there. Leave a Reply

Has anyone used an engine called Perlenspiel? (Also, I’m in)

This is what I plan on using: http://perlenspiel.org/

It’s basically a very scaled down javascript game development framework by Brian Moriarty (if you’re an Adventure game fan and you don’t know who this is, shame on you!). It has no pipeline; all game design is done by turning colored Mondrian-like squares on a grid on and off. Hopefully the theme won’t be something ridiculous and unfit for this engine.

I actually designed one of the games in the example section (Functional Colors), so if he thought one of my games was good enough for the site, I’m confident I know the engine and it’s limitations well enough :P.

Has anyone else used Perlenspiel as their engine for the contest before? And if it isn’t allowed for some strange reason, can it be used in the jam at least? (Actually, I’m starting my Junior year of college the day the contest starts. I might not have time to develop a game in 48 hours, so this could potentially be a moot point)

I’m totally in.

Count me in.

This will be my first actual game, let alone first time in the compo.

I plan on using Java through the Netbeans IDE.

Have you heard of the Video Game crash of ’83? My game will probably cause the Video Game crash of ’12.

I’m in!

I AM IN!!!

I had loved the Ludum Dare projects for a while now, but never thought I was up for the challenge of doing it myself. Of course my friend Andy (fsmv) has been my gateway into this by asking me to join him in making a Jam game. Sounds like too much fun to pass up. Further more, we will be in my dorm room for a weekend stocked with pizza, pop and the piles of first week homework that I won’t even touch haha. Sounds like a great time! I’m pushed over the edge, I’m gonna buckle down and make my first game!

I am in!

I am in, I’ll be using Stencyl, Sfxr for sound effects, blah blah blah, may get caught up in real life, etc.

Lets jam!

Two months since I moved to Singapore and is Ludum Dare time. Lets check how it is to participate from the other side of the world :)

I’ll be using either HaxeFlixel or Flixel. Sfxr to duct tape my lack of sound skills.

Please let me know if someone is planning a gathering in Singapore.

Ah Flixel, brings me back to my Freshman year in College. I tried making a Beat-em up as my Freshman project. Flixel was a terrible choice of engines to use for that genre 😛

Well, I would say if you think of something like streets of rage, flixel would fit. With more or less work of course.

At least anything in the 8 bit era should be fine :)

But I would probably go for something different to make a street fighter clone.

I’m in!

I’m entering for the first time!

IDE: Eclipse

Language: Java or Scala or …

Graphics: No idea! Maybe gimp, a bitmap font editor and a sprite editor… or not!

Library: Most likely LWJGL and Slick

Sound: A sound effects generator, Audacity and Reason

Good luck to all!

Count me in

Second ludum dare, will be using unity and c#.

I’m…in?

My plan was to be totally hyped for this one, and maybe try out Flashpunk, since last time I used Flixel.

However, RL stuff has hit and now I’m finding myself extremely busy until the end of the month.  I’m busy in a really good way, so that’s not a bad thing, but it does mean I don’t really want to be devoting too much time for LD.

I think I’ll see what the theme is and see if I can come up with some really cute and simple idea that won’t take too much effort/time to complete.  Otherwise, maybe I’ll sit this one out.  Ideally though, I’m in, and doing some sort of small pixely cute game in flash, with really cool 8bit (or 9bit?) music.  Maybe I’ll even use Famitracker!  That would be pretty awesome.

IN

Might be in… not sure I’m free from work… :s

IDE: Netbeans

Language: Java

Graphics: GIMP

Library: Java from Scratch

Sound: Audacity

Hope the plan falls together…

Game Online!

Hello!

I again. Finished a first level of my little HTML5 warmup. Use ‘w’ to attack, arrows to move and space to jump. Press ‘w’ too to restart the game if you loose. Here is the link: Mythology.

Nice so far, but add fall acceleration!

Back for Ludum Dare #24

I planned the whole weekend off, no people coming over or sick people to take care for.

Hopefully the theme will be a good one again.

All these “I’m in” posts are flooding my RSS feed

My team, Pocket Change (team name subject to change), is going to participate in the Jam. We’re still looking for an artist to join us. If you live in Louisiana or are willing to drive here to meet with us, you’ve got an instant in, but everyone else can feel free to comment below with an example work and we’ll just communicate over Skype/MSN.

My personal tools:

Corona SDK (maybe LOVE too)

GIMP

Notepad++

Foobar2000 + Tron Legacy Soundtrack (gotta have my music)

Starting tonight, I’m making a warmup game based on the theme “Homeless” found randomly on the slaughter page. Chosen because I had a really good idea for it. The game will be based on the framework of a game I never finished. If I use that same framework for LD24, I’ll make the code public.

Goal: Finished by this time Saturday.

Captain Jatobe!

Thought I’d prototype, in a rapid manner, in prep for LD24.

Made a boat control test in Unity, way happy with it.

Need to stop doing these if I’m going to get Chopper Mike done, but… they’re so much fun…!!

I’m in

First time in, because I’d like to see how much I can get done in such a short time.

I’ll be using Unity and C#

Also: Gimp, Audacity and sfxr

Im in

My first time in entering this contest :)

IDE: Eclipse

Language:  Java

Graphics: Mostly created in code or GIMP

Sound: sfxr and some stuff from newgrounds

Lazy Brain is in for LD24!

Hi all! Lazy Brain is back for more Ludum Dare! In LD23 Lazy Brain’s entry Necro Gaia somehow got 16th overall, which was a bit shocking, and also very motivating. So much was learned in the last compo about time management and working within a theme. I’m eager to apply those lessons to LD24 and see what new lessons there are to be learned!

Best of luck to everyone!

Woah, can’t believe I missed Necro Gaia back then, it’s pretty neat! Don’t have time to beat it right now, but I love the look and feel.

Frankie is in!

Im going to enter the jam! Gonna be jammin.
Last time I tried the compo, but after 48 hours I didnt have enough to show, so I went for the jam instead, and asked Chef Boyardee to help out on the final day. We ended up 2nd overall! I think this means its time to aim for the jam from the getgo this time around!

Going to be using Game Maker, Graphicsgale for the art, and I dont know what Chef uses for music. Ill update that post with that sometime.

Will you be documenting your progress publicly? (ie. livestream, video documentary, etc.)

I’ve been considering documenting the 48 hours of my progress on the game I intend on making. I would likely be shooting my progress with an old canon XL1-s camera that I acquired under bizarre circumstances. My intent is to make a short documentary, maybe 30 to 45 minutes on the making of my game. Weather it turns out a complete failure, a success, or somewhere in-between, it’ll probably at least make for an entertaining watch xD.

Do you plan on anything similar?

I don’t think many people actually end up making documentary like you are describing, but it is a good idea. I might try something as well, seeing as I just bought myself a new DSLR for filmmaking and haven’t made a project yet. Hope to document my progress as well and produce something like you!

That’s a really cool idea, you should definitely do it.

For LD #23 I had a page on my site to show latest screenshots, as well text updates from tweets and git commits. I think about 3 people saw it, but it was nice to have a record of how everything came together in the end. I’ll be doing the same again this time.

Now that I’ve seen this post, I almost want to do it… Sounds fun. Timelapses mess with my head, and I’m guessing Livestream might, too, but just filming quick updates might be cool.
