Ludum Dare 58 October 3–6, 2025

good theme

No matter how I think about it, I always think of the greedy snake.

wow

can't wait to start my little gnome adventure

We've begun!!!

We've got a little art, and a little code, and nothing works yet.

Let's go!

Progress

Core idea is done and player controller is coming along nicely

Time for a quick nap and then on to some asset creation

Good luck and have fun everyone!

Progress so far

I did manage to get something done-the dice roll.

I have no idea how to attach a video or a GIF here-help!

Dev Log #1: First Playable Build! COLLECTOR: DAY 1: It's Alive!

Hey everyone!

What a wild 72 hours it's been since the "COLLECTOR" theme dropped! We're Jasmine Team, and we're building our game, a game where you're core gameplay loop is in one sentence.

The Big Breakthrough: Today, we finally got the core mechanic working! Seeing the character showing on screen for the first time was a magical moment. 🎉

The "Interesting" Bug: Of course, it hasn't been all smooth sailing. We spent a good chunk of the day fighting a bug where the player would describe a funny or frustrating bug. Let's make a light-hearted joke about it.

What's Next? With the core loop in place, our next steps are to:

· Implement the UI. · Create assets for the second level. · Hopefully, get some sleep! 😴

Thanks for following our journey! Wish us luck!

begin!

lets begin our imagination of games!

Menu mockup complete...

Yup, I've overscoped a bit much... as usual =)

DEV LOG 1 : Main Idea done!

[ Follow me on Bluesky if you want more updates!! My username is SpinoInfestedWaters ]

Finally, after an hour, I’ve finished brainstorming the gameplay!

It surprisingly took really long, I honestly just think it’s cause I had Silksong gameplay playing in the background Hopefully I get to actually finish the game since it seems kinda complicated.

Plan to get some progress into coding, as I haven’t even started it yet…IMG_6878.jpeg

Enemy system in game

Enemies can now appear. They become "active" once in view, and some of them (like this placeholder bat) will "sleep" until hit or until something else wakes them up. There's damage and HP and everything!

demo3.gif

First Night Progress is Good-ish

After our first five hours, my team and I have a fairly solid idea of what we're making. The issue is we've had was how to make what we're making. lol

We've opted for a very simple, straightforward interpretation of the theme, and a simple FPS system. It was all going well until some of our ragdoll models... well, let's just say they had a few issues.

First, they melted instead of ragdolling, giving the models a jello-like appearance.

GIF 10-3-2025 11-09-05 PM.gif

Later they got together and 'danced.'

GIF 10-3-2025 11-00-50 PM.gif

Suffice it to say, dancing/spasming baddies was not in the design doc.

Eventually though, they fell in line.

GIF 10-3-2025 11-12-39 PM.gif

Now to rest for an early start tomorrow!

'Cheap' liquid effect

Very proud of this liquid effect- it's just a sprite on an angle sine that has its mangnitude and cycle bound to the player character's movement sprites.

Idea/Draft for the Theme “Collector”

😢 Sadly, I didn’t have enough time to actually make this game due to schedule conflicts. But I’d still love to put the idea out here — maybe someone finds it fun and wants to give it a shot! 🎣✨whiteboardemexported/emimage.png

Collecting!

Got the main mechanic of the game in! Enemies drop their "bullet power" when defeated. If you pick it up, it goes in your potion bottle, and you can use it with your secondary firing button! But, when it runs out, it goes away. If you get another enemy's power, you keep any you already got- you just need to use up whatever you have first. I think it fits the theme well, and is very fun.

collecting.gif

Awake for 2 hours and only just got an idea

I think I'm going to try and get a tempest like game with different lanes you follow and negeotiate obstacles and collect points and such. Aiming for a compo entry this time, so it would be nice to get some gameplay finish today.

Four hours in...

I need to get some sleep since it's 1:30 AM here, but I've gotten a little bit into the project. I should be able to upload on Monday...

ufogamething.gif

Hit me, baby, one more time

LD58, I'm back. And this time, I've prepared an incredibly detailed design doc that covers every single nuance and potential emergency scenario (No)

facee_enhanced.png

Just started!

I'm a bit lost in this jam aldready. I started with 8 hours of delay because I misread the starting time...thought 12AM was my actual lunch time. :) I couldn't find the theme either, so I begun with what I'm curious about at the moment: using glow in Godot.

Best of luck to everyone!Capture.JPG

Ok. I'm way late to start but I have an idea!

Idk how it will turn out. We'll see. But I think it should be simple enough, just moving a player with mouse and trying to "collect" things.

The interesting part would be to try to attach those things to the player's raft which will grow and grow. which will make it hard to avoid the mines in the water.

Time to relax

9 hours of productive work – concept, basic mechanics in the engine, and partially completed quests. Time to relax.

2025-10-04_08-59-44.png

First Concept finished

I've finished my first mechanic but there;s a LOT more to add, I might need to lower my scope anyways all the best to fellow jammers

Concept done

A bit difficult to start with the theme, but I have my idea written on paper. LD.jpeg

Now a break and then, the sprite placeholders.

2 hours in, change of plans

My idea for this theme is a "Rabbids Go Home" game but with chickens.

Peek 04-10-2025 09-43.gif

I'll go with Godot, much better for 3D than the tiny low-level framework I had in mind previously.

First day mostly wrapped!

RelicCollector.jpg

Added a lot of stuff! Some of it is visible in the picture!

We're going to be looting a castle!

Scalp the scalper (name WIP)

In the name of all whats truthful and good, we, Gentlemen Teaparty, work on a spectacle for you all to see. Grisly, no, disgusting creatures are among the card collecting sphere. It is our humblest of goals to defeat them all and return what they stole to the people that deserve it most. As for current, we can share only a glimpse of what to come. We discovered plenty of ways to conquer the enemy and located a faultless place to call our scene of battle.

We hope you reappear, as soon as we reveal more aspects of our vision.

Game Idea Locked In

I just got my idea for my 4h game. I also reserved my Sunday afternoon for 4.8h

I always wanted an excuse to try out PGETinker, an online IDE for small C++ games with an export to HTML.

Also, a side quest is to have the smallest game possible, as I'm a fan of the 4MB Jam where one crafts desktop games in less than 4MiB.

Time for the obligatory "I'm in!" post

I've figured out something I'd like to make.

I think this will probably be another one of those games that was more fun to make than to play. Put we'll see

This will be my 28th Ludum Dare... crazy...

Let's gooo

So, due to the time difference, need for sleep, and overall life, it's time to begin the work now (~11:30AM)! i do have a faint idea of what to do, so we'll see how it goes.

Wish me luck!

I'm ready to go

Its time to start(before I wake up)

Let's get collecting!

Remember Rocco the racoon jewelery thief we posted a few hours ago? We are ready to reveal what he is actually after. And as teased before: It's not the gems. He is trying to complete his collection of Racoocoos. Take a look at our first design ideas for them! Racoocoo.jpg

The Town Dreams Peacefully

Collector was one of the few themes I couldn't think anything up for in advance but I've got an idea of what I want to do now! I'll be using my usual toolset (own engine on top of SDL2, written in Nim, Aseprite) but I'm excited for this to be the first LD where I try composing my own music too.

01_houses.png

Hello, World! — Ludum Dare 58

Hey all, I'm excited to join Ludum Dare 58, with it's theme of "collector". Just finished my coffee, and about to start an ideation session... ☕🧠💡

Getting started

5th LD I participate in ! Being sick since the begining of the week, I only hope I'll be able to produce at least at fraction of my idea.

So I'm kind of lucky ; Collector was one of the themes I had an idea for, actually pretty much the same as the Modular theme : a prototype for a card game where all cards are generated procedurally. It'll definitely be a proof-of-concept at best because I lack some knowledge to achieve my idea and I don't have the energy to fully commit to a LD while sick, but I want to give this a try.

It's noon where I live and I just finished writing down the ideas I had in the night (I checked the theme quickly when waking up during my sleep), and combined them with ones I had before.

resizedIdeas3.jpg

Yeah, I've been replaying Magic The Gathering recently, and it shows.

EDIT : took out two pictures because it taking too much space, I don't want to take the whole front page.

Burg Entertainment is joining Jam!

We love following the “race” of game creation and wish you good luck! We will also share the process of creating our game for Jam with you. What do you think our game will be about?)01.png

Switching engines twice

I wanted to use bevy + rust this jam, with no bevy or rust experience. It was going great until I couldn't get even the examples of a physics engine working and it seemed like an issue that would take me way too long to fix

So I switched to my ""trusty"" Stride, but it had problems with compiling shaders, which would also take too long to debug

Now I'm installing godot. I swear, if this engine won't work, I'm gonna lose it

Struggled all night with a concept

My brain was fried, nothing clicked. Then I stepped outside, looked up and the answer literally stared back at me on the street

photoem2025-10-04/em06-27-28.jpg

And now for something a little bit different...

I'm just sitting down at the desk now, with a concept for the game I'd like to make.

It's a fairly standard collect-'em-all game, except that there's a very short time limit, making it impossible to collect everything in one go. And the game only lets you play it once.

How is it even possible, then? By collaborating: you need to enter the password left by the last person who played the game (along with any comments they might have left to help you on your way), and at the end of your game, you can leave your own password in the LD game page comments.

A bit avantguarde? Sure. A bit ambitious? Absolutely! But I think it's something that can only really work for a jam like Ludum Dare, so I'd like to give it a go.

P.S. Any other Dropout fans here? I just heard Sam Reich's voice in my head shouting "YOU ONLY HAVE ONE SHOT!".

Guess what we're collecting this autumn

I'm thinking a witch gathering forest fruits to make potions for... something? I have some ideas but would love to hear ideas!

Suggestions?

✦ An Intergalactic Music Factory ✦

This year we teamed up as a group of four game devs for Ludum Dare!

Members: - Me (Chariot) - Cautious - Bognari - iocutus

It’s my first time working in a team with so many members, which is super exciting for me. To keep everything manageable, we decided to assign roles, so this year I’ll focus on art and for the first time on music only.

We brainstormed late into the night and came up with a concept that we all absolutely love. You can think of it as Factorio, but instead of mining and crafting resources, you collect resonance from alien worlds and build production lines for music for an intergalactic radio station.

Cautious is an incredibly talented musician and pixel artist, and I’ll try to support him with a few tunes. Bognari and iocutus are the coding brains this time, building all the systems that will bring the factory to live... Ahh life ★!

Excited to see how it all comes together!

Here is our moodboard: Screenshot 2025-10-04 at 12.25.58.png

We need a lot of food to feed our large team. Here is some of the food that we have collected on the table. ruokaLAjpeg.jpg

Brainstorming

Hey Ludum Dare! How's your work going? We've already picked a theme, developed a concept and started to make some sketches

Here we share a little piece of our brainstorm meeting! We had lots of ideas since we're a cool team:)

being in your 30' in a gamejam

Hello fellow kids how ya doing ?!

Slowly getting older and being hit by it during a gamejam is funny.

Last time I slept on the floor with plenty of strangers in a place far away from home. Working from 9am to 2am, eating fastfood all weekend, it was all ez back then... I think I'll probably just die if I do that now.

Yes our bones might hurt. Yes maybe we need more sleep. Yes healthy, comfort food is now a necessity. But we're here still rocking right :D ?

Anyway look at this flan pâtissier I made yesterday flan_gamejam.png

Hope the best for everyone don't push yourself too hard !

Hey Ludum Dare 58!

We got lots of the models in place!

Here's a sneak peek 👀

Keep an eye out for * Fast-Food Dimensions * ! Maybe you can guess the gimmick from the name?

Start of day 1

GIF 04-10-2025 12-05-51.gif

I think I made the game too simple this time xD

Entry from the past

I found myself comparing every idea of mine with my past entry from 2022 that just fits the theme better.

gc-simulator-gameplay.gif

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/50/garbage-collector-simulator

I'm tired

I give up. I have very little experience in creating games on Unity. The main problem is that I can't decide on an idea. I come up with a game, an hour later I don't like it anymore, and then I have to start all over again. It's very tiring. Besides, I still have little experience with Unity. Until the next jam, I will practice coming up with more ideas and learn Unity better. The second reason I won't be trying is that things are happening in my personal life again. I'll be waiting for your games.

Giving hi-res and Godot a try

It's awesome working on Ludum Dare again! This time I'm going to try Godot for real. I've grown accustomed to writing my own engines in js and this is a bit of a new thing for me. This also gives me an opportunity to up my art a bit since animations are much more viable in a ready made engine. So without further ado... I present Chrystal the pug!

Screencast From 2025-10-04 13-17-15.gif

We lost the first hours in Sweden to get some good sleep and quite some time to figuring out what to do. Hopefully I'll be able to put in some mechanics in the next few hours to be able to put some more focus into content after that. Happy coding everyone!

I’m so proud of my team

It’s only the first day and my team already did so many important bits!! They are awesome, I’m the luckiest person in the world

Characters

Our working process. Welcome our cute and scary characters! 2.jpg

Day 1: Ongoing

Hola! I am happy to report that we did not abandon the game jam right after the theme was announced, as has happened to me many times before :(

Overnight, we came up with a concept for what we would do, set up the infrastructure, and now, fueled by tea and coffee, we have begun designing and developing.

Code word: gnomes. Stay tuned for updates!

Sketch of the pitch attached.

Game Ideas coming out well!

So far our team has only had 3 fist fights, 1 divorce, 2 band members leaving for creative differences and only 1 restraining order! things are looking good for us!

While we are only doing the LUDUM DARE EXTRA, we are excited that weve made as much progress as we have so far!

Hopefully well keep you all updated with our game as it slowly develops from a small local disaster to a national disaster!capture.png

Saturday lunchtime update

Doing alright so far. I've got four levels done, some sound effects, and a couple of obstacles, such as these conveyor belts:

video226.gif

I've also tidied up the placeholder UI. There's still a bit of animation and juice missing (I'd like to add a hopping animation rather than the rabbit just warping to the next tile), but that's a Sunday problem.

I'm gonna take a quick break for Mega Metagross Raid Day in Pokemon Go, get some fresh air and exercise. When I get back I intend to spend the rest of the day thinking up and implementing as many obstacles and mechanics as possible, and then Sunday should be a matter of cranking out levels and adding polish and juice.

The Streak is Broken

After 10+ ludum dares. I give up on this one. I have 0 ideas, and have too many things on my mind, and less time. Didn't want it to be this way, but I don't want to force myself. Of course, I might get a eureka moment later, but for now I'd say that I'm out. Good luck everyone!

A game about herding sheep

output.gif

Not sure I'll have time to make much this week-end, but this is already kind-of fun to play with.

Successfully ran the economy into the ground

No visuals yet, but the economy simulation is already somewhat working. But apparently the defaults tax all the money out of the economy in just a couple of turns  This is going to be one hell of a balancing job.

Screenshot from 2025-10-04 14-53-33.png

Rough mockup of the main screen!

Mockup_main.png Here's a really quick and sketchy mockup of our main screen! Now it's time to make it in 3D so we can move around the table. This is going to be a mix of 2d planes and 3d objects with painted textures!

I'll never forget-

-these vases. I have never in my life thought about vases as much as I do now. Shape of vases. Color of vases. Number of vases. What other properties do vases have? Mass? Author's name? This is it. The world is turning into vases, and I am going insane. Enjoying it greatly though! IMGem20251004/em155531_341.jpg

Working on the password system

ezgif-5b8f67f8f71058.gif

As I mentioned, I want my game to have a password system where each player shares the password at the end of their session in the Ludum Dare comment thread. So the password needs to be easy enough to input, while being impenetrable enough that players aren't tempted to just put in the "I win" code.

im having a good time

i was scared that i wouldnt be able to stay focused bc usually i only program for work and school and have trouble staying focused for long periods of time but its going good :D

ld 58! let's gooo

I'm returning after too much time! I hope this might be fun <3
