Ludum Dare 58 October 3–6, 2025

Here we go again 25th... 28... 31... 32... 33... 34... 38... 43... 48... 58th!

I think my first LudumDare was 25th, now its 58th! :D I lost count how many ldjams I tried , finished or used as starting point for my experiments, minigames and other software which i finished or tested after ludum dare was over and i did not submit.

I think this time time I will try to create Reddit game, if lucky - use Unity for it , if not - i will move on using any other free framework Reddit offers for their platform.

As i said I use ludum dare as push to start or test frameworks , so I hope i will achieve something and share with you my project ;)

backend (if any): typescript

game engine: Unity or something reddit suggests for their games

for audio i will check strudel

for graphics aseprite, drawpile, gimp, nightcafe, i doubt i will use Blender this time

AI tools (gemini , chatGPT, copilot) will be used just as a tools for autocomplete, bugfixing or search for answers

1ST RULE: ENJOY YOUR WEEKEND

Givus gamus

Mostly went at ludum dare alone, but finally got a team of five. Hopefully by the end of this weekend we end up with some crazy half-completed game. Anyway, innovation is the only metric that matters, right? …….. (no)

2 HOURS!

3H TO GO

I’m can’t be patient about theme voting, want to know already (not fog plaplspls) Wishing best of luck 4 all of u mates

I think I'm in

Its been a while since I last tried something like this, so I might be rusty, but since I'm free this weekend I think I will give it a go. I'm going to have to focus on creating something playable instead of worrying about the looks since I always ran out of time in previus jams when I tried to create something that at least looked ok. So yeah, one ugly ass game incoming XD

Under Two Hours until Ludum Dare 58

Time's counting down - are you ready? I think I am... but the excitement nerves are still running rampant. Here's a clean (unbranded) version of my team's wallpaper for the jam, in case anyone needs one!

LD58 Wallpaper (Clean).jpg

LD58 Time

Joining this weekend to make a game for LD58. Using Godot this time to make sharing via web easy. Last time getting an executable working for everyone was a process. I would like to avoid that this time.

Hey, its been a while!

Its been a while since I participated and I thought I will give it another go. ps: any tips on changing my username? This is a old account that I haven't used for years

Stats for no reason.

I was actually meaning to explore prior theme votes and put together some stats on how frequently the current final round themes had made the final round ( or had even been picked ) previously.

Got distracted and made a gannt chart of prior entries just to see the gradual decline in quality with RAG colouring :smile:

Screenshot 2025-10-03 212150.png

On the plus side, doing stuff with Python is way easier than PHP and Excel :scream:

I'm in

the obligatory post :D although I am off to bed for a few hours before the start. have fun all

I'm in!

Late post, wasn't quite sure if i can make it, but everything is cleared now for this weekend, so, i'm in!

Feeling excited!

Me and my team are already hyped!!

Joining for my 15th LD in a row!

Last time I shared a version of the Singleton Pattern as a script and I still think this is one of the Best Helper Classes I use in almost all of my Unity Projects, So I'll just copy it again!

As a little bonus, I wanted to share a helpful Unity tip that I've been using in my last few projects — especially handy during a game jam when speed matters.

It’s about the Singleton pattern, which is super useful for scripts where you only ever want one instance in your game (like your SceneManager, AudioManager, etc.).

I used to write the singleton logic manually in each of these scripts. But now, I use this handy base class instead — whenever I want singleton behavior, I just make my script derive from Singleton<T>!

For example:

public class SceneManager : Singleton<SceneManager>

instead of

public class SceneManager : MonoBehaviour

I hope this is helpful to someone out there, here is the script: ``` using UnityEngine;

public class Singleton : MonoBehaviour where T : MonoBehaviour

{

private static T _instance;

public static T Instance
{
    get
    {
        if (_instance == null)
        {
            // Search for existing instance.
            _instance = FindFirstObjectByType<T>();

            // Create new instance if one doesn't already exist.
            if (_instance == null)
            {
                // Ensure that there's a GameObject to attach the singleton to.
                var singletonObject = new GameObject();
                _instance = singletonObject.AddComponent<T>();
                singletonObject.name = typeof(T).ToString() + " (Singleton)";

                // Make sure the singleton persists across scenes.
                DontDestroyOnLoad(singletonObject);
            }
        }
        return _instance;
    }
}

protected virtual void Awake()
{
    if (_instance == null)
    {
        _instance = this as T;
        DontDestroyOnLoad(this.gameObject);
    }
    else
    {
        Destroy(gameObject);
    }
}

} ``` Good luck to everyone jamming!

Games and stuff

1 Hour Left!!!

I can't wait to do my second Ludum Dare!! Trying to take the theme a bit less literally this time, maybe make something kinda spooky?

By the way, here's my game from last time if you wanna kill some time before the jam starts!

https://katastudios.itch.io/ludum-dare-57

Lets go

I’ve only recently started my journey as a game developer.I really want to test my creativity skills and see what I can do with this jam.

1h left!!!!!!!!

Can’t wait to start!

58th Jam

Cant wait to start !

Most requested, never picked themes ( forgot to include #57/58 )

So - very loosely - caveats are I forgot to include voting rounds for LD 57/58 - here's the top list of most requested but never picked themes.. Themes may be double counted, where they appeared in more than one voting round.

Horrible chart - showing trend over time. LUDUMemMost/emchart_chart.png

Table of same data :

Screenshot 2025-10-03 221326.png

Finally the list :

LUDUMemMost/empicked.png

My 9th Ludum Dare, maybe my 4th finished game...

...and also, my first time in The Jam instead of the The Compo, just because I want the extra 24 hours.

What I’ll be using:

  • Engine: RPG Maker (maybe, this time I'll actually make an RPG instead of just a topdown platformer).

  • Code editor: Sublime Text.

  • Art & Animation: Pixel Studio/Photopea
  • Maybe art too: Pencil/scanner
  • Music: Abundant Music
  • Sound FX: sfxr

My favorite theme: Ruins My least favorite: Keep it together

But all are terrible :smile:

And as always, regardless of the theme, my game will have...

  • Robots. Because I like them.

  • Pixel art. Because that’s what I can do with the time.

  • An ending screen. That will be your reward for finishing it.

  • I’m planning to use the theme to create the story, instead of the game mechanics.

Ready to join Ludum Dare 58!

Leveled up a lot personally since last Ludum Dare (my first time entering) so I'm ready to try making another Ludum Dare entry this weekend! <3

Strangely excited about LD58

I took part in few LD jams before but I am strangely excited about this one. :tumbler_glass: I plan to be chill and beat my previous record of making a game in just 4 hours in Unity! :V:

I will vibe code, use chatgpt a lot and force my viewers to draw art for me! Watch me on twitch (I stream in Russian)!

My goal is to be in Top300 to improve my best position of :three: :zero: :six: at previous LD.

Wish me luck!

Here we go!

Lets hope I finish this time...

Streaming the reveal and brainstorming before I cry myself to sleep :)

Very excieted, good luck folks1

Hi All!

Hi, I'm a Game Designer who is trying to do something on my own this time, let's see how it goes and if I am able to achieve something good :sweat_smile: Good luck to everyone in this jam

Anxiously excited about new LD

I've noticed that I'm strangely anxious regarding the new Ludum Dare. It's my second LD and second game jam overall; my first game wasn't anywhere high in the stats, but I'm still pretty proud of it. I don't know what this weekend will bring, however I'm positive it will be interesting. I have basically no ideas of what to do with the themes that we voted on, so that's another stressor right here :D

Anyways, wishing you good luck and see you throughout and on the other side :v: :heart:

I'm in... ...maybe?

We're in the middle of renovating our kitchen and some other stuff too... :hammer_pick: :wrench: :paintbrush: :package:

Do I really have time for this? Not exactly.

But I can't help myself, can I?

I'll probably try to make something really really small and grid-based for the COMPO in whopping 320x200 resolution!

Here's my template of sorts.

Template1.png

Template2.png

Most likely I'll pass out after checking the theme. :bed: (it's 12:34 AM)

Later we'll see how well I'll be able to balance my priorities in life! :sweat_smile:

We are at 62.875% capacity

Let it be known that due to a combination of health, work, scheduling and things_happening, our team be at 62.875% productive and creative capacity and my posting this hereby affirms our commitment to appropriate project scaling and mental health.

But we're in.

First jam!

First jam for us! Hope it goes well 👍

First Jam

My availability is limited, but I love making video games, so let's give it a try. Greetings from Chile!

First Game Jam!

I'm looking forward to this Game Jam. I had a friend recommend it since I expressed my goal of joining the game industry. Let's ride!

Let's goooo

I’m participating in the exciting Ludum Dare 58 game jam here in China! This is my second time joining the event. The theme was announced at 6 a.m. in the China time zone, but I was so excited that I woke up at 2 a.m. haha.

Excited to join again!!!

We're all set up and ready for the announcement of the theme!!! What theme is everyone hoping to get? (or hoping to not get...)

Yay! I'm in!

Recording 2025-10-03 at 23.23.59.gif

I am sooo in!

It's something like my... 8th entry, 2nd with pico-8? It starts in 15 mins!
Well, I'm not fully prepared (not as much as I'd like to be), but at least I made some time arrangements - so the target is Compo (as usual, but this time I probably cannot extend to Jam time)!

☑ made time arrangements (baby sent with mommy on vacation)
☑ project dir created, themes voted on
☑ pico-8 started
☑ created itch.io page (not sure if I'll use it)
☐ went through my notes on Lua programming

My stack

☑ pico-8
☑ VSCode
☑ Aseprite? maybe?
☑ coffee machine
☑ music to listen to

Good luck to everyone! :heart:

ready!!!

im ready, got all my snacks n drinks. did some practice in Godot. this time around my new friend Claude AI is helping out, they were super helpful in practice so things are looking good. excited for the jam to start!!

on your marks... ready... set...

Locked In!

I almost completely missed this event tbh. Today was my first day in a while without Uni duties, I found myself bored sitting in my living room deciding on what I should do now (except for playing Silksong), I logged in and holy sh@t it's starting today, guess I'll join then :)

GL everybody!

GLHF

Keep your scope small everyone. :)

I am in

Goals :

  • Make a "game" (with a goal and rules)
  • Have a high score
  • Either generative music or Shader
  • Include the frog
  • have an AI player

Tools

  • "Game Engine": p5.js with the v2 that I have never used...
  • Sound: I wanted to use strudel to generate the sound and maybe have it react to the game loop, but I have been trying for the last hour to get it working in my setup to no avail! I'll probably resort to BeepBox
  • Graphics: I'll try Pixieditor
  • git/github: for versioning along the project, and github page for the final release.

Has anyone used strudel.cc in an entry ??

Hey greetings from Moldova everyone

kinda curious if there's are other ppl from moldova here rn

the chances are low but never zero

im in

will try to do my best; hope i'll do it..

I'm in

We'll use the usual tools (HTML, jQuery, Krita, pencil and paper, etc.) and the latest version of our framework as a code base, REPLICA 1.5. Feel free to use the latter if you wish.

I'm in

Hey, I'm in once again. I won't be around a computer for the first 24 hours so I'm going for the jam to get a true compo experience. I'm going to have a piece of paper with me for sure though.

The stack for my project will be built upon will consist of Godot 4.5 and something I can create graphics and music with. Likely Gimp, Krista oder Fidel and LMMS to create an annoying loop track. I'd also like to to a timelapse for this project. We'll see!

Have fun all you very nice people. :tada:

Yoooooo

It'll be my 5th LD entry, and 17th game jam participation overall (and still a lot of room for improvement)

Whether it is your 1st participation or 10th, don't give up, don't forget to have fun in your project (that is the most important thing for me in jams at least), sleep and eat well, and good luck!!! Let's make cool things

Hi all

Hi, gl hf.

i'm in!

my last LD was LD48, let's see how it goes

Oh no, Collector!

Can't win them all, but I think that's the point! Gonna try real hard and make something out of this! I hope everyone has an excellent time! (Psst... remember to take breaks!)

Collector!

Gonna catch them...all ? :D

Collector huh

i lowkey had a concept in my head i wanted to try for this jam and i hoped for some other themes to win but actually this one kinda shapes my concept even better than i planned it to be

I'm in

Colector huh, that's gonna be interesting

Colletor!!

Let's-a go!!

Let's go! I'm in!

My Second Jam! Let's see what I can do with this. Good luck everyone. :D

Yay, Collector!

~~Is there a way to see all the themes ranked? I'd love to see how the other themes scored~~

EDIT: Just saw the post haha, thanks!

Good luck everyone!

Let's collect

it means we all will be collecting something, time is ticking

dude.png

Too late for a new stack?

Well, I was planning on using Fennel+Love2D, but then I discovered that Janet has Raylib bindings, and now I'm torn!

Maybe the true theme was the game engines we collected along the way?

Got my concept: Ratman Blinks Bag Of Too Many Things

rmf.jpg

You are Ratman Blink, you have a bag of too many things, as you collect more things more effects compound as magic items react with eachother, your goal is to collect as many things as possible in the time limit, while being careful to not get bonked dropping your things

Awesome theme!!

It's been years since my last Ludum Dare... I like the theme so much that I'm gonna give it a shot! Here we go! 💖

Im in >:)

I had a little idea to do going in... And the theme works PERFECTLY with it HAHAHAHAHAHA >:))) lets go boys

Shmup

In this shmup you will play as a skeleton witch from outer space who pilots a wooden potion-powered UFO that is possessed by her frog-ghost BFF. You fire at spectral entities to banish them back to their plane of existance, then collect their "bullet's power'. You can then shoot any collected bullets back with alternate fire, or launch a "glob" of all the collected power which spirals out and destroys incoming bullets.

witch.png

Oh the urge

The urge to defy the limits of a well known collector franchise patents.

GOOD THEME

GOOD!!!

pew pew

We collected some ideas

@Lizz and I are happy about the game we will make! Don't mind the cat :-)

Contemplating if it’s really a good choice to join cause this is my first Jam and I use scratch to code😔 hopefully my game turns out decent😭IMG_6633.jpeg

Hello is a reserved word

Hello everyone! I’m going to try to make a game for this jam. Haven’t had a decent idea yet, but I’ll sleep on it. Good luck, everyone!

My second ever game jam

First jam nearly 10 years ago was way too ambitious in using skills I didn't have, took too long to think of an idea. This time I've found one pretty quick and going to stick with the skills I have and keep it small.

Hope I have a playable game by the end of it!

Let's collect!

Oh such a great theme, I love it! It's midnight here but I don't think I'll be able to fall asleep, my mind is buzzing with ideas. :laughing:

We're up and running

Or perhaps I should say... hopping?

video224.gif

The idea this time is a puzzle game where you have a limited number of moves in which to collect every carrot in the pasture. There will obviously be obstacles of some kind, but I can work out what those are going to be tomorrow. The UI is also obviously a placeholder.

In past Ludum Dare jams, my goal has been to get a working prototype in place by Saturday lunchtime, so to get one finished on Friday night before going to bed is great. I don't feel like I crunched particularly hard to get there, either. I'm gonna shower and head off to bed and tomorrow I'll start fleshing out the obstacles, core gameplay loop, and such. This is a simple enough idea that I think I can throw together a lot of content and still make the Compo deadline--assuming I can think of enough content, that is.

Dynamic animation

Spent a solid 45 minutes just polishing this animation and tweaking the code. She is the player character, after all! There are several sprites pinned together with several animations for each to create this effect.

dynamicAnim.gif

Exciting - Lots of Ideas!

Great Theme in our Opinion, we got lots of ideas, but need some refining. We are going to get some sleep and start on an one of the many ideas 😎

Good Luck everyone! And Foremost, lots of fun!

Making progress

I've got a skeleton of the game working.

I tried uploading and image, but it doesn't look like it worked :(

Edit: There I got it to work.... although it much bigger than I expected.

Greenshot 2025-10-03 19.16.36.png

Get ready for Rocco!

To be honest, we were hoping for a different theme to be selected, but none the less we came up with a game idea we are really excited about. Meet Rocco, a sneaky jewelery thief. But does Rocco collect gems? Noooo! He just needs them to buy the collectables he so desperately wants. And who knows? They maybe even help you on your next heist... rocco_sketch.jpg
