Ludum Dare 58 October 3–6, 2025

Excited for my first Ludum Dare!

Hey! I don't know if my last post got lost in the void but here I am again!

What is your favorite tool/process for making music?

Have fun everyone :)

I'm in!

Another autumn, another autumn LudumDare! Weekend is clear, so I'm going to do my best. I've made games with "falling puzzle" aspects for the last three LudumDare's, so I'm going to try not to lean on that genre too much this time.

Favorite software list:

Engine

🧅 Construct2: HTML5 game creation software!

Graphics

🧅 Aseprite: Pixel art program!

🧅 GNU-IMP: Open source image editor!

Sound

🧅 LSDJ and bgb: Authentic Gameboy synthesizer and emulator!

🧅 Chiptone: Superb “old-school” style sound effect generator/creator!

🧅 FL Studio: Classic versatile music software!

🧅 Audacity: Open source sound editor!

Hosting

🧅 itch.io: Storefront/games host!

NOTES

🧠 I WILL NOT USE ANY AI TOOLS. ALL ART/MUSIC/SCENARIO/SFX/ETC WILL BE CREATED BY ME OR WITH “OLD-SCHOOL”-STYLE GENERATORS. ANY AI INFLUENCE WILL BE ACCIDENTAL (SOME SOFTWARE COMPANY SNEAKING SOMETHING INTO MY TOOLS, FOR INSTANCE.)

⚙️ Construct2 has been "retired" for over five years! :-) I will try to keep using Construct2 as long as I can for LudumDare.

Can't be more excited!!

First time participating in a gamejam. Good luck everyone!

First time

Looking to recruit a 2D/UI artist to round out our team! ‍‍

Hey you! Yeah, the 2D/UI artist who is still looking for a team! Well look no further because you just stumbled upon a small group of seasoned jam veterans. 🎖️

Our small team has dozens of jams under our belt, but this year we're short a 2D/UI artist. Hopefully you can fill that gap and help us achieve greatness! (Or at least very-goodness  ) Here's what we're looking for:

  • 📱 A 2D artist with experience in UI design
  • ⚙️ Familiarity with the Unity engine and working with its UI tools
  • 👨‍💻 Some previous game jam experience (can be any jam, not jut LD)
  • 👥 A basic understanding of / familiarity with source control (esp. Github)
  • ✂️ A desire to help create a jam game that is a cut above
  • 📅 An interest in the potential for continued post-jam development
  • 💬 Excited to work with others and converse with the team (we use Discord)
  • 🎴 Bonus points if you have any UI experience with (or a love for) card/tile-based games or board games
  • 📋 More bonus points if you have any additional gamedev skills to add (most of us wear multiple hats)

If most or all of these things sound like you, we'd love for you to join the team! Click here for the application link.

And if you have any questions just leave a comment :)

First Ludum Dare and first time Dev

Excited to try! I have experience making art for others, but this is my first time developing solo. My goal is to just make something that runs and learn as much as I can in the process. =]

Debating on which one to do

I'm debating on whether I should do the compo or jam. I think I'd be useful on a team as a unity dev, been working on games since 2021, and have a degree in game design and development, but I work on Monday so I can only really do 2 days worth of competition. Which means I could complete the compo, but a team I join would have to be okay with me not being there on the last day

Help Needed

Hello, I’d like to ask—after I publish my game, how do I take part in the rating process?img.png

Ready for LD58 then Tuesday Streams

Excited for LD58, game number 12! Our team of 4 plans to participate in the Jam 3-day category. Our tools include:

  • Game engine: Godot v4.5 for a web build hosted on itch.io.
  • Audio: Finale, PxTone, Audacity, and bfxr.
  • Visual: Adobe, GIMP, and Microsoft Paint.

Also, each Tuesday of October I plan to live-stream demoing our game, then play and review other entries each Tuesday this month. If you want to be alerted when I go live and have your game played on stream, please follow https://www.twitch.tv/vorceshard. I look forward to seeing what everyone makes!

My First Steam Game Started at a Game Jam

Sem título.png Some time ago, I started a project for a game jam. I didn’t manage to finish it in time, but I really liked the idea and decided to keep working on it. Now, it has become my first game on Steam! The game is almost ready, and the Steam page is live. Anyone who adds it to their wishlist would really help me out.

Jam theme tier list

While waiting for the jam to begin, to kill some time i decided to give my personal evaluation of the suggested themes. This rating is of course subjective and different for every person, however some themes are objectively worse than others. (Also its incomplete, I didn't care to actually rate every single theme but merely split them into categories)

S tier: "feet" - it goes without saying, we all can agree here

A tier: the difference between A and B tiers is purely subjective and is based on personal preference. Good themes go here that can be iterprered from different angles, mechanics and setting/narrative wise. I am putting themes like "modular", "flow" or "combine" into A tier.

B tier: themes like "split", "connection" or "isolation" go here, those themes work but i give them less personal preference than ones in A tier.

C tier: here go more restrictive themes that don't easily tie to game mechanics, and might provide lots of similar games, though there still lots of space for creativity. "Depths" from LD57 is a C tier theme. Current themes that go here are themes like "fog", "alchemy" or "space".

D tier: graphomania themes, pretentious themes that scream "look at me i am so art! I am so better than everyone else!" Themes like "nothing is permanent" or "night is coming" go here.

F tier: purely narrative themes, its really hard to express them from the perspective of game mechanics. Stuff like "expedition" or "ritual" go here.

In the end I want to mention that everyone has their own opinion, and can treat themes and vote however they like, as I said such ratings are 95% subjective and are based on personal preferences. Some people might even argue that "bad" theme is actually better because developer will try harder and make a better product in the end. P.S. gl hf everyone, can't wait to play all your games and experience different ways of thinking participants have.

Excited for LD Game Jam!

This will be my first/next Ludum Dare, and I’m really looking forward to the challenge! I don’t know how much I can achieve within the jam, but I hope to create something that I can feel satisfied with in the end.

For me, the most important part is to enjoy the process, learn something new, and push myself a little further as a developer. Wish everyone good luck, and let’s make something awesome together!

The whole world is trying to make my LD jam difficult! IM IN THOUGH!

Here is the list of all things that are in the way of me enjoying Ludum Dare.

1) Saturday - Huge family related birthday party I can't miss

2) Sunday - The only day I can actually work! However we will get home from the family gathering later in the morning, so I alrady miss like half day of potential jamming!

3) Monday - My internet provider decided they are going to do a f*ing maintenance between 7AM and 5PM... Like SERIOUSLY? You had 365 days for this and you pick THIS ONE? Luckily it's only internet, not electricity, so at least I will be able to draw art and code.

This is me angrily working on the jam
