LD24

I’m in (for the jam)

Hi there. This is my first Ludum Dare, so I thought I’d go for the Jam. The tools I’ll be using will be:

Engine: Multimedia Fusion 2

Graphics: Multimedia Fusion 2 inbuilt graphics editor.

Sound: Protools

Peace!

I’m in

This is my second attempt at Ludum Dare, and I’ll be using:

Flash CS4, AS 3.0, SFXR, ProTools.

My main goal this time round is to not sleep through the deadline.

Setbacks: Time to start over.

Hmmm… it seems that the advice to avoid ambitious ideas was sound after all. My heartfelt art-rpg meditation on the villainy in all of us seems to have tangled itself up in code hell before half the mechanics were functional.

Ah well, lesson learned. 30 hours left, plenty of time to come up with a (much) simpler idea based on the theme. And perhaps a less pretentious one :P.

Last tried this 4 years ago =). Will be using Godot, Photoshop, and Audacity.

Never the theme you expect...

So, after the inevitable 5 minute panic on seeing the theme ("what, that!?!?", "there's no way I can do that!!!", etc), I've settled on my game concept. I'm choosing to combine genres in the setting rather than the mechanics, so I will be writing a top-down puzzle game with a Psychological Horror meets Reality Cooking Show setting. Basically, you have to work your way round a map collecting ingredients, while keeping your sanity meter filled through pickups. Leaving graphics till last as that's my weakest area, and tbh I'll be happy if I can get something playable, even if it's still using placeholder sprites. Good luck all!

And... done!

Finally finished :). I can think of a million things I'd do differently next time round, but that's my first ludum dare completed, and the first game I've managed to finish, so pretty happy all in all :).

Ludum Dare 47

I'm in

My second attempt at ldjam. Goals for this time are:

  1. Focus tightly on one or two ideas - last time I tried to make something 'epic' in scope, and the end result was kind of messy and boring.
  2. Introduce some basic animations to the graphics.

I'll be using: 1. Godot Engine 2. Photoshop 3. Spine 4. Logic Pro X 5. sfxr

Progress is being made...

Progress is being made. Idea is two actors condemned to make the same performance over and over again for eternity, until they finally get the reviews they want to hear. Unfortunately, as they're stuck in a loop, they can't change what they're doing in any way. The player helps them out by adding/unlocking/swapping audience members until the two finally get their glowing review and can make their stage exit.

And I'm done

Finally finished - as long as we ignore a few bugs/glitches :). Thoroughly enjoyed the experience - now to sleep for about 30 hours :). Good luck to everyone!

Question - Changing Game Description Pages Post-Compo

Hi All. Quick question - is it considered to be against the rules/spirit of the compo to change your game description or itch.io game description after the 48 hour window has passed?

I ask, because a lot of the feedback I'm getting highlights the fact that I don't really give in-game instructions of what the player has to do, which leads to a confusing experience. I completely agree with this feedback, and improving the way I convey information in-game is part of the post-mortem I've started for the game. In the meantime, I was hoping to update the game/itch.io descriptions to include some better instructions, but don't want to do this if it's going against the rules or spirit of the compo.

Ludum Dare 49

I'm in for the 3rd time

This will be my 3rd time entering the compo. My tools:

  • Godot
  • Photoshop
  • Spine
  • Garageband

On my previous entries, I ended up prioritising story and graphics at the expense of the core mechanic- this led to really long and boring gameplay loops. So, my goal this time is to focus on developing a fun core mechanic that can give the player a satisfying experience in under 5 minutes, before thinking about story and art.

It is done

Finished :). My game about someone who parties so hard that their matter actually becomes unstable, and they can freely change between being solid and gas. Possibly stretching the theme a little, but I found this one tricky to come up with ideas for :).
