Woa, never mind…

This weekend is packed so I have really no chance of making anything. Oh well, when is the next Ludum Dare or MiniLD?

From Game Maker to where?

Hey guys, I’ve been realizing that I think there’s really not much more that I can do with Game Maker. I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions as to what platform I should move to next. Something similar to Game Maker but maybe a little more advanced.

From what I’ve seen done in game maker, I’d say the next step is pretty much anything in the realm of programming languages. If you’re uncomfortable with getting down in the dirt and building your own environment for system and I/O (as a game developer, you probably should be), there’s a bunch of middleware or engines that will smooth things out. As I’m not enough of a game developer to avoid the gritty bits though, I haven’t really tried much of what’s available and I can’t recommend anything specific. Many would probably suggest Flash/AS3 since there are nice tools there now, and great possibilities. Flixel should be a good starting point, I bet.

yep, I agree with flixel.

I definitely agree about flash/AS3. If you think you would be more comfortable with low level stuff, you could try C/C++ with SDL/OpenGL. GML (Game Maker Language for those who don’t know) is very similar to C/C++.

I’ll put pygame.org into the hat. Since I’m a developer of that.

How about Game Maker HTML5. It’s more advanced and similar to Game Maker. *laughs*

I’m in!

Its shard123 here again, and of course I’m in for the Jam. I’ll probably be working with qwezc again. We’ve learned a lot this year when it comes to game  making so I’m excited to see what we can make.

Good luck everyone!

Progress (or I can’t think of a good title)

Hey guys,  shard123 and qwezc here with updates on our Ludum Dare 22 game, Sanity.   The gameplay is going to be pretty simple, the hard part is the graphics. We’re doing all hand drawn artwork for the objects so it will be time consuming. We’ve made some good progress but don’t have enough gameplay for a demo or anything, but what we do have is a  pretty neat title screen:

Finishing Up

Hey guys, shard123 and qwezc here again with another update on our game Sanity. We’ve finished the basic gameplay and are now working on the rest of the levels and other refinements like music and sound. By the way, the best way to follow our progress is to follow me on twitter: @tman_BOSS

Here’s another rockin’ screenshot, we’ve added enemies and shooting:

I know I’m really late, just saw about the MiniLD. But here it is, my doodle, I’ll probably have it out by the end of the month….hopefully….

I’m In…

Hey guys, I’ll probably be entering this Ludum Dare, it’s just a question of who I’ll be working with. I’ll probably be working with 2 new Ludum Darers. We’ll be using Game Maker and GIMP as always. We’ve been working on a “warm up” game of sorts for maybe a week, here’s what we have so far:

Progress!

Well, we finally have something that we can show without being humiliated…with a day and a few hours left I think we’re making okay progress. We have the basic game play and graphics completely done. We even have some music and sound effects and music done, we just need to flesh out the story and add more levels. Here’s a screenshot of our entry, Sword of Altaria:

I’m in! If I have time!

I’m going to try and do this MiniLD, it’ll be by myself so it will probably suck. But it’ll be fun to experiment and get crazy. Be playing some old DOS games too this weekend, like Populous and Dungeon Master 2.

MiniLD failed…

I think this might be the first one I backed out of, but anyways, I’ve given up on this MiniLD. This weekend got really busy and I my game idea was just really stupid. Here’s a screenshot, I have some game play and if for some reason you think I should post it, leave a comment.

Update on my Jam entry

Hey guys, I didn’t think I’d be doing this LD but I think I can now. So far I have a title screen, a fair amount of story, and some basic game play. My entry, Praegressus, is going to be sort of like a top down Deus Ex. With enhancements you can add to yourself and some shooting and stealth elements. I think I might try to focus more on story this LD, and maybe a little less on graphics. Here’s the title screen, I should have some game play to post soon too.

Jam Entry Finished!

Me and the rest of  Live Evil, have finished our Jam entry Praegressus! It’s a top down shooter/rpg with a pretty big emphasis on story. For this entry we really focused more on game play and story than on graphics. We had a lot of fun this LD and can’t wait to do it again in December.

Find Utopia in my Jam entry, A Space Opera

Hey guys, this Jam was a blast and I hope you guys had as much fun as I did. It got kind of frantic near the end because we decided to totally switch development platforms and games about halfway through. Then my friend was busy so I took over. We managed to pull through with I think pretty good results.  Our game is called A Space Opera, it’s a space action/survival game with some RPG elements. You pilot a tiny ship exploring uncharted space and fighting off aliens and space pirates in search for a Utopia like world that humanity can move to.

After many scrapped ideas, Progress!

Diabolus

After two games that I started to make and then scrap I finally came up with the idea that my game Diabolus Labyrinthum is based on. You navigate the labyrinth trying to find the exit and every 10 seconds the labyrinth switches from dark to light. You also have to avoid traps and monsters.

Finished!

Maze of Torment

Finally finished my entry for the Jam, Maze of Torment. It’s a game where darkness falls every ten seconds as you try to escape hell. I went through many different game ideas before finally settling on this one, I thought i wasn’t going to finish. I’m really glad I did this compo and I’m excited to play all your great looking entries! Play my entry here: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-27/?action=preview&uid=3824
