LD17

Hi, first LD

Hey everyone! I’m pubby and I thought I’d attempt to make a game this time.

Most likely I’ll create it in GM7 due to time constraints, but if my idea requires something faster I’ll switch over to java/c++

Anyways, I’ll be using:

Paint, gimp, audacity, FL 8, Anvil studios, and notepad++

Island TD

Yeah, I’m making an island-based TD.

Turning out good so far.

Screen1

Building placement is go!

The basic outline of the menu for my TD is done!

It also has building placement.

screen2

Going to sleep now.

Power!

screen3

Power has come to the volcanic island!

It’s not scientifically accurate, but still works!

Is it supposed to be a geothermal energy tycoon game?

It’s going to be a tower defense that feels like you’re building an island city.

Status

screen5

The TD is almost done! I just have to fix all the glitches, test, and polish!

Hey, that looks pretty cool.

Indeed it does. What did you make it in, in the end?

I used gamemaker, audacity, FL8, and paint.

Island Guns

Is anyone doing a game under the name “Island Guns”?

If not, I’m taking it.

Island Guns complete!

screen5

Download

So hopefully there aren’t any glitches with it.

A working windows version

screen5

So I hopefully fixed the strange bug happening on other computers. The game should actually be playable! I also fixed a stupid typo that was causing random errors.
Check it out!

LD18

I’m in

Hopefully I can scrap together something for LD18.

I want to use C++, SDL, GL, etc – but if theme is something that I can’t achieve quickly, I’ll probably switch to GM to get it done faster.

Tools:
gimp
audacity
fl studio/anvil
paint

I have a bunch of nice 2D SDL libs if you think the GL route is too much.

Why bugs is the answer

BUGS:

1. Tiny creatures that live in ground
2. Problems with computers
3. Disease of body
4. Pants12 bugs

im a bug?

Yes! For you are the answer!

First hour and half

I’m going to do a star-control-like-battle-game.

Every weapon will be a combination of 5 parts.

You will 1v1 a random opponent.

The hardest part will be writing a playable AI.

Space ship moves!

screen1

Yay! It moves around! Now, to add bullets!

Reminds me of spacewar.

looling good 😀

Upgrades

Upgrades!

elements

You get to put 5 of these on your space ship.
You win them from killing enemies.

screen2

It’s coming along.

Gonna write a ship AI so I can actually play it.

Playable!

screen3

The upgrades work.
The enemy has good AI.

Now, to finish it!

LD19

Anyone up for hardcore?

Who wants to join hardcore club?

*Only old, non-OO languages:
Assembly
C
pascal
fortran
BASIC (non-visual of course)
etc

*No libraries except:
standard libraries
OS libraries (windows.h, POSIX, etc)
Very old and classic libraries (such as conio.h)

*All content must be created after theme announced. No basecode or resources.

who is up for challenge?

That is totally insane! Loved it :-)

I was planning on making something accessible for people to play, like in Flash or even raw JS, but this is a nice idea… Anyone know any Flash/JS/Browser-based Java emulator of some old hardware, like an MSX or Sinclair? Something that ran BASIC with a graphics mode would be great :-)

Anyone who can make a decent game in Assembly has my respect. In 48 hours, too? Insane

If I had a 6809 Assembler for the Vectrex, I would so do this. But I haven’t found one I could run. I do have an app for my iPod which can code in ‘BASIC’, but the problem is releasing it.

Oh man, if I do the next LD I’m totally in. Bring on the ASCII art and the rogue-likes.

Not this time, but I’d love to do something in BASIC again for the nostalgia. Maybe next time or the following one I’ll do that, or even assembly. I originally learned ASM to speed up BASIC, so it’d have to be something fun, like some sort of retro console ASM (6502, z80, ARM, 65816). No more x86, thanks.

Anyone who does a “hardcore” game will get massive respect and admiration.

I’m interested in a hardcore division. For the last couple I’ve been flirting with an idea along these lines that’s pretty extreme, but I feel like the contest culture is more about design and content (nothing wrong with that — I love it too) than about the spirit of the hack.

Would Lisp be classified as a hardcore language? It’s certainly old, and most dialects of it are not OO. I remember making a text-based adventure game in it some years back…

What about a game in an esoteric language? That could be fun.

The irc is full of assholes

And I’m entering contest.

Going to make an awesome game.

No basecode (yet).

Are you reading the handbook on how to lose respect or something like that?

Super basecode!

Look at this demo of basecode

Basecode is like 90% done.

I can do better. Let me just open up my Text Edit… 😀
17. Dec 2010 · 20:26 UTC
Why on earth are you rendering 3D in text mode?
sirGustav
17. Dec 2010 · 20:33 UTC
I don’t believe it’s a question of “why do this”, or “why do that”. I think it’s more along the lines of “why not”.

roguelike

Going to do a console roguelike.

Hopefully I can use the 3d console stuff somehow.

You should use my BlitzMax ASCII graphics engine, it’s making this LD48 a breeze for me :)

I’m probably out

I got a dungeon and maze generator working, but then I realized that I really never like to play roguelikes and that the there really isn’t any other console based game that could fit the theme.

Maybe next time.

I’m making a console-based game that isn’t a rougelike.
