Gotta love programmer art!
Clearly my art is still not quite there

Having some trouble thinking of upgrades, but it's coming along
Alright, it's starting to look like something!
But it's still 1am, so lots of stuff to be done!
Alright, that should be enough for Day One!
Decided to call my game "Infected Pong", a game where you just want to play Pong but the virus keep popping up. You have to click them off and upgrade an anti-virus to help you out.
The core is done, some general polishing here and there and we should have a decent game in our hands! Still not very comfortable with the current upgrades so I'll look into that too tomorrow. For the first time making a Game Inside Of A Game type of thing, I'm proud of myself, especially only having a few months of practice as a game dev.
And shoutout to my homegirl, Amanda, for the amazing concept idea!
I hope everyone's having a blast, good luck!
It's not perfect, but I didn't expect perfection out of my first Ludum Dare, or any Ludum Dare, honestly!

And here is Infected Pong! Quite proud of it since it is my first LD submission. Let me know what you think:

Alright, so this was my first time participating in the Ludum Dare, or any game jam for that matter.
Here's the link for my entry: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/infected-pong
I made a game called "Infected Pong", and it is exactly what it sounds like: Pong + Viruses.
My girlfriend came up with the idea of having a game where your computer is infected with viruses and you have to deal with that somehow. I really liked that idea, but I wanted something more, something more challenging! So I thought about adding a game of Pong in the background!

So I started off by designing the main idea which was to have viruses to pop up in the screen. A simple coroutine did the trick to simulate that. You just had to click a cross button in the top to get rid of it, simple stuff. Then, I went ahead and implemented Pong playing in the background, which was simple because I made Pong to practice a few days earlier, so the code was fresh on my mind.

I felt like the game was a bit tedious as it was so I wanted to add some sort of anti-virus that would contain upgrades to help the player. This was a bit more tricky because I had trouble thinking in what upgrades I wanted to implement. Eventually I came up with 4 simple upgrades and I figured that that would do.

So that was all the logic done! On to the graphics and sounds.
I wanted to simulate a windows UI, so I made the little hills with the sun as the background and created the "Anadma" (Which is another game that I made), "Waterfox" and "Folder" shortcuts so that it actually felt like its own computer.

I think this is when I stopped for Day1.
For Day2, I didn't have much left to do, so I polished some physics, added 2 other types of Viruses, added some more graphics and made the music and sound effects, which I'm quite proud of.
It was tons of fun! There's a reason for why experienced developers recommend game jams for beginners. It helps you with dealing with stress and deadlines, you'll have a theme to get an idea so you don't get stuck in that process, you meet lots and lots of people who can make incredible games and are willing to rate yours in the process!
It's an amazing experience and I do recommend it to all the beginners, even if you don't feel all that confident!
I speak about this and more in my blog entry, check it out if you're interested! http://philltalksabout.blogspot.co.uk/2017/12/dev-journal-1.html
In for my second ldjam! Stocked on food, fluids and caffeine, lots of caffeine.
I honestly don't know, but a Cooking RPG game might not have been one of my best ideas ¯_(ツ)_/¯

3rd time joining the jam! Hoping for a good one.
Good luck everyone!

"Running Out Of Space" sounds very dull, but that's where the best games come from! For this jam, I decided to stay in my comfort zone: 2D Games and Retro Music, so this will be my setup:
Engine: Unity
Graphics: GIMP
Music: BoscaCeol and maybe Audacity
Good luck, everyone!
Running out of space? I think I can fit still fit in a boat in my garage...!

Pretty happy with this. Displays all the items you collected and adds their value to a final score.

My girlfriend decided to help me with the art (just for fun, she's not an artist) so I'm throwing her creations into my game, along with some easter eggs :)

Ending day 2 with an improvement on the Garage art! Also added another bunch of collectible artifacts. Managed to finish all of the programming, so now I can focus on art and music. Overall happy with the progress!

Just woke up and I'm feeling pretty confident on this one.
It's not the best game I've made in a jam but it's certainly not the worst.
I managed to achieve the gameplay that I wanted and the art style didn't end up as bad as I thought.

For the final 7 hours I'm gonna focus on making more artifacts (It's an auctioning game, I'm gonna need a lot of them!) and make the soundtrack and sound effects.
Good luck everybody!

Auction Hoarder was a very small scope game, envisioned to be made in about 20-36 hours since I wasn't expecting to work for the full 48 Compo hours (Pokemons aren't catching themselves on community day).

Auction Hoarder is an auctioning simulator.
You go into auction and see the pieces being displayed. If you feel like it’s worth it, you can place an offer. If not, you can just skip the offer! People will be bidding against you the whole time, so make sure the item is really worth the price.
Once you got all the items that you wanted from the auction, it’s time to bring them home. However, your garage has limited space! What will you have to sacrifice to fit everything in?

POST MORTEM DEVLOG
What Went Well
What Didn't Went Well
THE PROCESS
Day 1
Day 1 started off pretty well. I managed to get the basic programming of the auctioning working, which wasn't particularly hard.

Day 2
Day 2 was focused on programming the garage and the AI that bids against the player.
The garage proved to be a fun challenge. It had been a while since I made an "Inventory" type thing. Midway through the day I decided to change the space system a little bit. It went from "buying artifacts until you ran out of space" to "buying as many artifacts as you can and then having to discard some" which I think gave people a bit more of anxiety (in a good way) because you don't find out the value of the items until the end of the game.

The AI was a bit more of a tough challenge.
It wasn't hard to code it, but it was annoying to come up with a bidding formula (When to bid and how much), but overall I had fun with it, and making the sound effects for it.
The rest of the day was used to create and improve the art assets of the game. This was when my girlfriend decided to help.
Day 3
Day 3 was focused on finishing the art assets, creating the soundtrack and sound effects. I am quite pleased with the soundtrack but I feel like the art assets and sound effects could have been better.

CONCLUSION
I had lots of fun during this Ludum Dare. I feel like it went well and saw a lot of great games during their developement.
For now, "Auction Hoarder" will stay in my Jam Shelf, but maybe I will turn it into a hyper-casual Android game in the future.
*I hope everyone had fun and thank you for reading my Post Mortem

I actually forgot that this was happening this weekend!
But my setup is gonna be the same that it has been for the past 3 jams:
Engine: Unity
Art: GIMP
SEs and Music: BoscaCeol and Audacity
Good luck everyone!
Decided to actually sleep this time. Main mechanics are mostly done. Keeping it super simple since I don't have much time this weekend! Good luck to everyone else!
