Ludum Dare 45

I'm creating something, I just hope I also have time to finish it...

This is my first time when I actually push myself to join the LDjam, so "hello world" o/ At least in an official way, that is. Because during the last 2-3 years, I always worked on my personal gamedev projects, not necessarily related to the theme of the actual game jam, but still working inside of the LD's timeframe, forcing myself to finish what I had to do before the Compo or Jam deadline.

So here's the deal. I really wanted this time not only to join it, but also to go for the shiny Compo, creating all the assets and everything from scratch. Which is looking good so far, just that I don't think I would have time to wrap up everything before the Compo's deadline. So I think I will continue with the same approach, but I will change my aim towards the Jam...

Anyway, I'll have to sleep for a few hours and see what I can accomplish after. I'll leave here some screenshots with what I currently have. Cheers!

More progress, Compo still out of reach...

So I've managed to add some more content and also game logic to my project, things are going well I'd say, but unfortunately I'll still have to switch my focus from the Compo to the Jam, since there's no way I could finish everything in under 1.5 hours.

Didn't manage to finish it...

Initially I wanted to submit my game for the Compo, then I said that at least I'll go with the Jam, but it seems that the idea I've picked for the theme was just too big. Next time I'll have to make sure that I'll plan everything better upfront, so that I know faster if the idea is not feasible in the given timeframe.

But honestly I don't feel bad or disappointed about it, it was an awesome weekend and a great experience. Especially since I got the chance to play again with Unity3d and Blender, which I really missed doing. Moreover, it might be a project that I could take someday from a POC to a game that I can actually release. I'll still have to decide on it.

Good luck to everybody who managed to submit their entry and see you all next time!

P.S. I'll leave here some images/video from inside the game in Unity.

Ludum Dare 56

Any other Ludum Day first timers?

POST: 24 hours into our Ludum Dare (first one for most of our team), but we're having fun so far! Hopefully, we'll get our first playable build by end of day.

P.S. How much Lidl pastry have other European team consume so far?

Bonsoir!

We're closer and closer to having a playable prototype, how's everyone else's progress?

What was your hardest challenge so far? Ours is that the tail movement of Napoleon Bonamouse.

The theme really kicked our asses, we brainstormed for about 2-3 hours before we started working on the idea, with day one going mostly towards systems and concept art. Btw, the entire idea was cemented by this video:

48 hours in, we still didn’t have a playable prototype, but we told ourselves we’ll have it by mid-day 3. Of course, we had something by mid-day 3, but as with all crunch time, bugs started appearing here and there.

We fell in and out of love with Godot, but eventually, we managed to have the build in the last minutes of the Jam (with some game breaking issues when changing scenes, but we managed to patch those also. We still have some nasty bugs, but hopefully we’ll be able to fix them between work calls.

Thanks to everyone in the team who worked their asses off, with an average of about 10 hours of sleep per person during the 72 hours of the jam.

Thank you LD56!

Liberté, Fraternité, Code Qualité!

Finally, we managed to stabilise and fix most game breaking bugs for https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/56/la-revolucion-francheese-bonamouse.

In case you didn't manage to finish it, you can try your luck again!

p.s. Our game took in total 279 number of commits, how many did you have?

Fixing never stops

The best part of Ludum Dare is that you get honest feedback on what needs fixing. So even now, with less then 10 hours left to the results, we managed to fix our little mice from flying through walls or moving too fast in some scenarios.

You can still play and rate our game here: La Révolution Francheese: Bonamouse
