LD So far...

Wow! My first LD has been a blast! I got my 20 ratings in the first day thanks to everybody who came to check out my game. So many people left helpful comments, reported on bugs, or left kind comments, its amazing. I will definitely be participated next time and telling all my friends about this.

My game Tiny Empires was super fun to make and its awesome seeing so many people enjoy it as well. I do plan to release a post LD version the day that the rate period ends. So far about 3 hours in working on it I've squashed all those pesky bugs, if only I did that before the deadline! I'm really excited to implement all these cool features. For those who did play my game and are excited for a post LD version, its coming! AND here is a little screenshot.

For those who have yet to play my game, go give it a try! Also comment your feedback and give me a link to your game, I would love to play some gems that aren't getting the love they deserve.

Thanks!

My first LD

My first ever LD and second ever game jam has come to a conclusion, I am so glad that so many people gave my game a rating, I have NEVER had this many people play a game I made ever. I learned SO MUCH about game jams, game development, and most importantly time management!

Screenshot (36).png

My best category is overall with an average score of around 3.5/5 and I placed 510th out of 1,852 games!

But more importantly is all the amazing feedback I got! Please if you got a score you didn't like, just look at all the people who gave you feedback! Feedback is 100X better than a score!

I tried to get as many of you in the pic as possible <3 Screenshot (37).png

Thank you everyone!

Try out Light Towers!

PLAY IN BROWSER Screenshot (72)23.png

Light Towers is a fast paced puzzle game similar to Tetris. Im on my way to 20 reviews and Id appreciate if you came to check out my game. I'll play yours as well. Light Towers has no music (I'm not a composer) so if you want you can play some of your music.

Alternative approaches to health points

Hi everyone!

I'd like to spark a little discussion about health in games. For my LD I made a game where the player has a health bar but also a timer which both contribute to the player death. Basically the timer continually goes down and can be incremented by picking up medicine, and the health bar works as expected. The interesting part (at least to me) is that when you let the timer go under 30 seconds you take half damage from bullets and twice the damage from melee attacks.

The idea here is that the player has to make tough decisions on whether they can take time to look for medicine to up their timer or just go to the next level and hope they can find it faster this, combined with other pressures, makes the player do tough decisions.

In the comments of my jam someone suggested that I either remove the health bar or the timer and not have both. I completely agree. I think the game would play better without a health bar, and where when the timer reaches 0 the player doesnt immediately die, but instead dies immediately if they get hit ("one shot"). This should allow for skilled players to flex their skill and knowledge of the game. I still would have to think more about this idea, but I really do think that games that take alternative approaches to health can be very interesting.

If you guys know of games that take alternative approaches to health or have comments on this topic leave them below!
