LD 44

It's been a while, but I'm back in!

Like the title says, it's been a year or two and I've missed a few LD's in that time, but I'm going to participate this round. Tools that I will be using are below:

  • Language: Java
  • Engine/Framework: LibGDX
  • Graphics: Paint.NET/Tiled
  • Sound: Probably BFXR
  • Fuel: Coffee/Energy Drinks

Just have to decide on what I want to do now..

It's hardly a start, but this is the first time I've used LibGDX or even Java in a couple years so I'm happy. So far it's just an animated button and a custom mouse cursor so I have that going for me at least. The weekend is still young so I just have to choose which one I want to stick with. Maybe something with blockchain..

Starting over

Anybody else having problems with Tiled 1.2.3? I've reinstalled it more than once to overcome this problem but every time I close and reopen it crashes and won't open, forcing me to reinstall it again. On top of that I cannot access custom properties from my tilemap in LibGDX. I also wasted 2 hours just to find out that the render order is always right-up instead of what it says, right-down. I've spent way too much time just trying to navigate around errors so I'm going to start over again and decrease my scope a bit.

It's coming together

It doesn't look the most sophisticated yet, as I've only put in a minimal amount of effort into the actual artwork, but it's playable and has enemies and such. I had to throw away my Java environment I had originally planned on working with last night and am now using Phaser.js and my handy IIS server. Hopefully after a good night's rest I will have a clear mind to finish on time.

Mandatory I'm In Post

It's been a few years since I've done any type of game dev but I'm gonna give it a shot in the compo.

I'll be using these tools: PhaserJS, Piskel, Inkscape, jsfxr

Good luck to everyone and I can't wait to play everyone's games when it's over!

Wish it didn't have to be this way

Having a heck of a time getting anything to work properly with Phaser. I've had trouble with it in the past but I figured that after a few years I might have better luck with it, but no. Gotta move on now because Phaser has become such a hassle for me. /Rant over

If I actually submit something tomorrow it's going to be extremely basic.

I'm In!

I'm definitely going to be joining this time around as well. Usually I use Phaser as my core framework, but I've been learning about the Godot Engine recently and feel confident enough that I can use that and learn the stuff I don't know as I go, so Godot will be number 3 on my list of game engines that I've used in a Ludum Dare. Best of luck to everybody out there and don't forget to have fun!

Final Vote Results

So excited for this Ludum Dare! I already have some ideas for some of the themes. It's going to be awesome! Screenshot from 2021-09-30 09-18-36.png

Skeleton Code

I have a question about starting out with skeleton, or base code, prior to when the compo begins. I've always started with a completely empty slate with no code written, no copy+paste, and no predefined structure or scenes to my app (MainMenuState, GameState, EndingState, etc.) Obviously I know that I can't start writing code or drawing any art until it begins.

How strict are the rules regarding this? Let's say I have code written for a previous LD that controls character movement. Can I copy+paste this in future LDs? Also, if I were to use Godot or Unity am I able to create the basic scenes before the compo starts?

Last Minute Failure

Grr.. I actually managed to somewhat finish a game on time and ran into an export issue with Godot at the last minute. I don't know how to fix this or if I will have enough time to submit for the compo.
