I need some clarifications on the rules please

So I am PRETTY sure I can, but am I allowed to use GarageBand to make music for my game (48 hour comp, not the jam), and can I use these things:

Engine: Unity3D

Modeling: Blender

Texturing: PhotoShop/Gimp

Also can I use my Wacom Bamboo Tablet? I think I can I am just making sure. And also for Unity3d when they say “Include the Source Code” should I just include the whole project’s contents or what?

Yes, you can. As long as you’re not stealing melodies / lyrics from other songs, you are good to go!

It may not be important in a “will go to jail” sense, but it is not fair play and totally misses the point of the compo. If you want to reuse assets besides the parts that are explicitly allowed (e.g. fonts, instrument samples), please, please, please do the jam, not the compo.

Yes you can use the software you’ve listed.

In regards to your question about the source code requirement; Yes, that will be your project folder.

The primary purpose of the rules for Ludum Dare are to get you to make a game that is entirely your own. This is beneficial as it means you should always have the option of expanding any LD entry of yours into a fuller experience and selling it for money without having to worry about legal disputes later on.

There’s really no money changing hands over the course of the Ludum Dare (unless you count Ludum Deals or donations to the folks who run the site), so nobody ever really has solid reason to get up in arms over minor violations of rules or policies.

Anyone Want to Help With The Jam?

Hi, me and another game developer are doing the Game Jam together. If you are looking for a partner then you can join us, just skype message me or him. My skype is Digifigure and his is uhhh… just skype me actually :) I dont want to bother him. But ANYWAYS if you want to join just skype message me and I’ll ask you some questions then add you to our group :)

I’m In for the Second Time

This will be the second Ludum Dare comepetition that I participate in. I did Ludum Dare 30 and I did the 72 hour challenge and at the time I was 11 years old, now I have 12 and more experience. Last Ludum Dare, my team quit on me and I ended up  having to restart from scratch with only 11 hours left and then my computer had a burning rubber smell so I was forced to not use it for a few hours. I ended up finishing the game in 7 hours. I hope this competition goes better for me but I am extremely excited!

  • Unity3D
  • Blender
  • C# w/ MonoDevelop
  • Intuit Tablet w/ Gimp

Spending way too much time on introduction…

Does anyone even pay attention to introduction details? Because I spent almost 2 hours just modeling and texturing some simple buildings that will most likely only be used in the introduction scene. And I’m not even done. Next come cars, fire, and people. I bet I get it done at 12:30… oh god. Whew, Ludum Dare, this is what I signed up for. Anyways this is what I did in those 2 hours… Haven’t even started programming…

Update on my Game

So I decided I would participate in Ludum Dare 32 about 40 days ago and I am participating. This is my second Ludum Dare (I also did LD 30) and I will be updating every now and then on Twitter, my Twitter is @TwittleCreator, and I really think you should look at my creations so just head over there to see what I am doing. Here is a render from the opening scene of my game… (it is not a final render, just the base models and textures, by the time I release the game it will be different)

Game Screenshot

Any suggestions? I will consider any and all suggestions or ideas. I will also try to make a post on the Ludum Dare website every 5 or so hours.

Finally got the intro scene finished… Yay?

I got so much done tonight… well not really… I got one scene… but in less than 6 hours so I guess that is good. Here is the photo of the finished product. In the game it will be a moving scene with sound but just so I can show you guys quick I will just render a picture… Here it is… Gosh I really need to start programming

UNITY3D PEOPLE HELP ME [RESOLVED]

Hi, I am making my Ludum Dare game in Unity3D and I have a thing where after a yield function I use the Application.LoadLevel and load the next level but the next level comes out all dark and it has terrible lighting. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Hey, this also happened to me earlier, there’s a bug with lighting when loading scenes, you simply have to go to Window->Lighting-> Lightmaps tab->Disable continuous baking and press BUILD.

Oh my god yes it works thank you so much dude thank god… I got so stressed. Thanks man.

ALL UNITY3D USERS HELP ME!

Hi, I am using Unity3D for my game and I just added in character animations and now whenever I go to run the game this error comes up:

NullReferenceException: (null)
UnityEditor.SerializedObject..ctor (UnityEngine.Object[] objs) (at C:/buildslave/unity/build/artifacts/generated/common/editor/SerializedPropertyBindings.gen.cs:72)
UnityEditor.AssetImporterInspector.GetSerializedObjectInternal () (at C:/buildslave/unity/build/Editor/Mono/ImportSettings/AssetImporterInspector.cs:57)
UnityEditor.Editor.get_serializedObject () (at C:/buildslave/unity/build/artifacts/generated/common/editor/EditorBindings.gen.cs:142)
UnityEditor.ModelImporterClipEditor.OnEnable () (at C:/buildslave/unity/build/Editor/Mono/ImportSettings/ModelImporterClipEditor.cs:114)

I really need help with this because I want to get started on Level Design but I need to fix this first…

There’s a null somewhere. I would start disabling objects until you don’t get the error, then gradually re-enable them until it comes back. That will help narrow down where to look for the problem.

My Game is Working Perfectly so Far

Hi, my name is Tyler, I am 12 years old and this is my second Ludum Dare. I’ve been programming and doing game development for 3 years. I love Ludum Dare and I am extremely happy because Ludum Dare is about halfway finished and I am much more than halfway done with my game. Hype.

Unity Lag Spikes… Help…

Hi, I am building a pathfinding script and functionality and I have a unit that follows a path to a target and it keeps lagging and has huge lag spikes where it takes 50-90 milliseconds to execute one thing, and I looked in the profiler and it says its from ‘Gfx.WaitForPresent’… anyone know what this mean or how to fix it?

Animator Controller not working for AI… Help?

I have an animator controller for my AI… I have a script changing the float parameter called, “Action” in the controller. The float in the controller changes like it’s supposed to, but the Blend Tree I have attached to the animator controller doesn’t do anything. It has all of the animations attached with the correct threshold values but none of the animations play at all. I need the animations to play by the time I submit my game or it’ll look like crap.

Screenshots would be helpful. If you happen to be using Unity:

Disappointment… Hopefully better next time

I felt extremely confident until a few hours ago when some code created a bug with the AI and health scripts and it just couldn’t be fixed. You can still play my game. It isn’t a full game, and it only runs on web… I am 12 years old, if you guys could play my game and rate it and give me some suggestions that’d be awesome. Link to my Game, thanks!

Nah…

LD35

I think I am in… We’ll see…

Well it is gonna be a little bit complicated for me right now because I have basketball team evaluations tomorrow and that means I have to get good sleep. it will end up stealing at like 12 hours of my 48 hours leaving me with 36 hours to make it. I think this will be enough time since I have already planned everything out and it seems like I have too much time but we will see. Wish me luck.

LD 42

I should be in.

Not as 100% chance but I really hope I can make this one. Haven't done one in a long time, maybe 2 years, and now I'm 15 years old and have developed a lot of new skills to use this time. Good luck to everyone.
