LD34

Hi there.

Just realized i never made a post about being in the ludum dare. Or i did and forgot. Whatever.

Hi. I’ve already started work on my project. The concept is a game where you are given a character and two options; in the first level this is summer and winter. You’re given text boxes with pictograms inside that give you hints as to which to choose – you get three of these before you are forced to decide on an option that appeases your partner. Real excited to be a part of the ludum dare for once.

A little character

hello

He’s a pig. Super radical.

Cool!

LD36

well, everybody else is making a post like this, so

i’m in. currently looking to be in the compo, as i’m not working with anybody, though that might change in a week.

i’ll be using:

  • lua + löve for code, unless i’m still not getting the hang of it by crunch time, in which case i’ll dust off the old game maker studio
  • fl studio (demo ver since i. dont wanna pay for it lol) for music
  • paint.net and/or paint tool sai for art
  • sfxr for, well, what else would i use it for?

yeah. cool. nice. yeah

I just switched from Game Maker to Love. Definitely recommend it. A lot faster for prototyping, and lets me not use Game Maker’s terrible text editor.

concept??

so. does “renaissance” count as ancient. because im considering a series of mini-games (sorta warioware-esque) in which you utilize da vinci style machines and devices to complete tasks in a certain frame of time. more tasks you complete, more points you get, et cetera.

i guueessss i could also do that with egyptian and similar-era technology… but hey, renaissance technology is way cooler looking so

yeah

I think renaissance is more renaissance. 😛 … but da vanci machines would be the ancient tech your thinking of. Good idea!

IDK but in my opinion relay computers are “ancient” 😛

It really depends on your interpretation.

day one work summary

i made a wheel spin and do a sound effect, but it was sort of a foray into gml and a good learning opportunity, as silly as that may seem

also made a song (if you can even call it that), though i dont know if ill use it in the Final Product

and finally, i planned out some of the minigames ill be doing – i want there to be like “sets” for different parts of the ancient world, and each one will have an equivalent for a motion one can do with a keyboard and mouse. i think ill focus on the tutorial or “early man” set for now, and see if i can get different sets done by the time ld is over.

for now, im sleepy, so im gonna go ahead and go to bed. see ya

soo next day progress

i think im gonna go to sleep soon but today i did:

  • wheat minigame. scroll for Wheat
  • fishing with a spear and shit
  • make a hammer with a stick
  • soundtrack. a whole 3 songs
  • finally decided on a title – enter FRIDAY NIGHT DEATH ARCHAEOLOGY
  • plus a title screen, and some title graphics

title_square

goals for today

so, ive got pretty much everything i need in regards to individual minigames done, and all thats left to do is implement a time limit and scoring in the “arcade” mode

Concept

I'm working on a card game (yes, I am That Kind Of Person) in which you are making deals with demons in an attempt to gain resources (Money, Influence, Manpower, Souls) and pass along curses to your fellow players. You need curses to progress, but if you have more than 20 at any given time, you lose the game. There are also events which have other effects and grant resources and spells or remove curses.

I have the basic rules completed, so the only thing left to do is actually create cards. Right now I'm just writing them up in a txt file, and tomorrow I'll probably work on making the design for the cards themselves. If I had time, I'd make card art, but I really don't, so they're going to be fairly minimalist.

Some Cards

Most cards done, time for art

Got basically all of my cards done, at least for now. Here's a list of 'em: https://hastebin.com/ejiwimopoj.sql

(The letters in front of the Curses and Spells indicate color.)

Art Example

Here's an example of the actual card design. Minimalism is in vogue, right?
