First LD

First of all, let me present myself, my name is David Amador, I usually go by the nickname ^DJ_Link^ (good old irc times). As most of you I’m a programmer and  I like to make video games. I have a small blog where I post about game dev, movies and such.

So this is going to be my first LudumDare competition. At least I hope so, if nothing goes wrong.

Tools:
– C# and XNA since I don’t really have any C++ framework.
– Visual Studio 2008
– Audacity, Musagi and sfxr for sound
– Paint.Net for “art” (this is gonna be sweet, since my art sucks)

Best of luck! Do you think you’ll really use PHP, C++, AND C# for this? :)

Just woke up. It’s concept time

So it’s 8am around here. 5 hours in. Theme is islands. It’s a cool theme, although I still don’t have any idea on what to do.

Gonna search around a bit on what you guys are doing, then I’m going for some breakfast before doing some concepts.

Good luck to ya all

First Screenshot of Ten Thousand Stilt Islands

Hi there.

Haven’t made many progress yet :/
Had an idea but not sure if it’s very cool. Basically you have to move a little pirate, Jelly Bones Elmer around each island to accomplish something, either opening a chest or anything like that. I think I’m going for some turn based stuff. Today I basically did something to load a tile map and show what you see on the screenshot.
Since I was still elaborating the idea I spend most of the time drawing something to keep me busy.
Now that I have a sort of goal I need to put the turbo coding on =)

Sorry bout the art but I’m not very good at drawing.

Btw, I named my game “Ten Thousand Stilt Islands”

Still not sure if I can make it

Hi.
Well I’m still not sure if I can make it =(

I had a last minute invitation to present something at a conference regarding phone game development which is a great deal so I obviously can’t refuse it. It’s tomorrow during the whole day.
On good news is that by then the theme should be out and since I bought myself yesterday a new Laptop so I have something to work outside and I’m going to try and do some coding while there 😛

As soon as I get the change I’ll install my tools of choice:

-Visual Studio 2010
-Programmer’s Notepad
-Photoshop

I’ll probably be using my own engine I’ve build for iPhone converted to Windows, so it’s going to be coded in OpenGL. I still need to finish some stuff to handle windows creation, mouse, keyboard etc on Windows. Should take a couple hours so I better before.

Also I hope the theme is something I can easily come up with an idea =)

Here’s my home work area, and if any one cares, my twitter handle is @DJ_Link

Good luck to everyone.

Just woke up

Hi there.
Just woke up and I really like this theme although I don’t have any ideas yet.
The only thing I did was creating a skeleton project just now which already shows the classical black screen 😀

I’m going to have some breakfast now, good luck to everyone

Puwang – a 5 day work

Hi, how’s everyone doing?

I don’t know it this could be considered to the October Challenge since I started work on this some days before but here’s the post any way.

This was a different week for me. It’s been a long time that I had the chance to work on a small prototype or a 48H competition because of my other work so I decided to stop for a couple of days and do something else.

Also my cat’s been quite sick, and between the Vet and taking care of him, working on a fun project gave me more time do everything.

Since I love shump games I decided to do one. The idea is simple, you are in a arena with your ship and you just blast enemies away.

Initially I worked around 6-8hours on this back in August but had to drop it because of some much other work I had, so it wasn’t until this monday I grabbed it again.

I decided to make the game for iOS because it’s easier to make prototypes there and I can carry them around everywhere, playing them, to see if they are any good.

Actually the first 8 hours where quite productive and this is what I had after that time:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=sfxpNnfoZQI

So during these past 5 days I polished it a little, grabbed myself a notepad and hand-drawn everything. It’s not much artistic, but I’m not a designer.
Had a few problems with iOS 6 due to some deprecated stuff but in the end it all fall into place.
Also some tweaks performance-wise on the Engine where made since with a lot of stuff on screen things can get out of control pretty easily specially on these portable devices.

iPhone 5 just came out and I even took the time to add support for those extra pixels, actually I just increased the viewport, no scaling.

I probably named it poorly but it’s Puwang.

Also added some Leaderboards via Gamecenter and as I write this I’m starting to receive some feedback of the early beta builds I sent to a couple of testers. So ff people like it I intend to release it on the App Store.

If you want to participate in the beta test use this link: http://tflig.ht/SRB5aP

Here’s what I have so far

So here’s what I have, a small iOS game =)

I call it Puwang

#gallery-1 { margin: auto; } #gallery-1 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-1 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-1 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */ 2012-09-29 20.56.20 2012-09-29 18.14.01 2012-09-29 18.13.05

If this were Ludum Greenlight I’d vote it up just because it has wang in the title and I’m I sucker for old skool graph paper!

So my game was released last night – October Challenge Update

I’m seriously surprised with how fast Apple approved my game.

It went live around 8hours ago, so go check it out. Spread the word and help me make my $1, a bit more if possible 😛

Considering the proceedings from Apple I need to sell at least 2 copies of the game to make $1.

So help me spread the word.

Nice game! I’m sure you already made your dollar. 😉

OMG, I made my $1 already :D

I’m so happy, as I mentioned yesterday my game Puwang was released on the App Store.

The first “easier” step was done, making the game and releasing it, now to make some money. This morning I checked my App Sales Report and I made ~$5, which is 5 times more the initial amount, and it’s great.

Now, my next goal is to reach the $10 amount, and eventually recouping the $99 I spend on the Developer Subscription on Apple.

And, with luck, if I ever reach the $100, I will then have $1 of profit 😀

Anyways, since we are still on day 11 of the month I decided, why stop here? I’m going to tackle another mini-game. I have a idea, doing some concepts right now, and I’ll post when I have something watchable.

Another cool thing was people tweeting that they were having fun, and trying to beat leaderboards scores, which where like this last night:

So once again here’s the link to Puwang, spread the word 😀

My mid-week warmup, porting Puwang to windows, releasing it for free

Hey guys,

Decided to spend the afternoon making my iOS game Puwang run on Windows, for some warm-up.
Took me around 3 hours, mostly because I had to add Mouse and Keyboard controls. I also added support for an Xbox360 controller to control the game, it’s very cool. You can’t use the gamepad to control menus though, sorry.

I decided to release it for Windows for free, because the game isn’t exactly designed for PC’s, has a smaller resolution, runs on window mode only and doesn’t have Leaderboards.

I made a small video of the game running on windows: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=1UkJHDLfI-A

puwang

The Game requires some external frameworks to be installed, so in event it crashes at start please make sure all dependencies are correctly installed.
Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86)
OpenAL
DirectX9

So I hope you have fun, let me know what you think.

Don’t forget that you can still grab the original iOS (Universal) game here.

My body is ready

So I’m in, my body is ready

photo

Tools:
-Visual Studio 2012
-My own engine built in C++/OpenGL
-Bfxr
-SpriteGate (Tool I made for sprite sheets and animations, in case you want to know more about it link)
-Photoshop

First screenshot

I had an idea, but I really don’t know if it will work.
I decided that for Minimalism I’ll try to use as few images as possible. So far the whole game is built with primitives only.

The idea for the game is an exploration in space, where you have to fill a planet with little beings, and then move the next one. Some planets might have enemies and you need to conquer the whole galaxy.
