This is about as clean as it gets. Note the xbox360 controller and plenty of reference reading material xD.

Here’s the desk. Complete with my cat Molly.
And here’s my reference books. In there with all the other books. And the toys. And you can see why they’re all on the floor right now…
I got nothing but ideas… Well, I also have a black screen that you can press ESC to exit. But anyway, none of the ideas are really kicking it. The most unique one, but one I am not at all sure I want to do, is something like this: You’re a old prospector type guy, carrying a keg of gunpowder. It has a hole, as they always do, so you leave a trail behind. You’re in a place filled with explosives. After a set time, the end of your fuse lights and begins chasing after you. It blows up any explosives it gets near, and of course if it gets to you, it blows you up too. You can put the keg down any time, so the goal is A> blow stuff up without getting killed (put the keg down and hide before the flame gets to you), and B> blow up as much stuff as possible.
The chain reaction is that obviously all the explosives blow up other explosivs near them. So the strategy is in putting your fuse down well without getting blown up along the way. Seems kinda fun, but I don’t know about actually making it… well, after writing it, it’s strongly considered.
Other ideas include a Bangaio-style shooter where guys who explode blow up other guys near them, so you want to cluster them up and destroy them. Also, a guy with a chain who smashes enemies, sending them flying into other enemies for a chain-based chain reaction (but chain physics scares me). Another is something along the lines of pool, shoot out a ball that hits enemies, and they go flying and hit other enemies.
But behind all that stuff is the idea that I kinda wanted to make a turn-based thing, like a board game or card game. I don’t know, though. So many ideas, so little interest in them… maybe the prospector thing.

I think I found a concept I like. I’m currently calling it “Pillar”, as in a pillar/tower, and caterpillar. Here’s some concept art.
A character composed of blocks, that acquires new blocks as he moves. The controls I haven’t figured out entirely, but at the very least I think it’ll be based around the idea of picking a block on the character as a pivot point, and rotating him. Probably constanly moving, walking in to walls, until told to turn around (or automatic after a few seconds).
As blocks are collected, they become part of him, evolving in to Tetris like shapes and beyond. The rotating mechanic is your ability to get to new heights, and cross gaps. Physics wise, I think it’ll be entirely axis aligned, since it’ll be far too easy to make shapes that couldn’t normally keep balance. Legs would sprout wherever needed, purely for look cohesiveness. Face always moves to the front middle of the shape. Perhaps tails and other things sprout if a shape deems it.
My only concern at this point is trying to figure out, level design wise, why you wouldn’t want to always create a long piece.

So I played with some ideas .. the one that kept coming up was gunpowder… so that’s what I’ll be doing. You can see in my stuff below that I toyed with marble chutes, race car pile-ups, throwing cars into highways, toxic waste etc .. So maybe I’m going with the boring idea, but it seems like it’ll make for a fun game anyways.

I just got back from ice skating, and I noticed people were posting their programming setups. Well here’s mine with my trusty beast.

My bro, when he heard I was doing this, commented that this should be renamed LuDumb Stare, because I must be insane to try and look at a computer for the better part of 48 hours 😛
As for my setup – no pictures, but I have a 7 yo laptop I’m using for the last competition, before it gets retired.
I am also using a newer one,but just for all my webstuff. It was intended for the compo, but alas, I haven’t had the time to get everything on it to make it work, so eh
Hello,
I’m off to a slow start. Due to some circumstances, I’m using my wife’s laptop to work on my entry. I was planning on doing something in C, but I couldn’t get the build env to work correctly and I didn’t feel like wasting more time getting it work. So I’m back to the good ol’ Python 😉
I’ve got an idea involving planets and gravitational physics. I made this nice intro/menu screen (it’s animated! wowee!)

Here the weight held up by a chain rests on a see-saw.
I still haven’t really thought up an idea for a game. Here’s one idea, but it’s kind of lame. maybe lame enough to use… the player shows the chain to different celebrities pictures from google images, and sees their reaction.
Maybe something to do with setting off a chain reaction in a plastiscene world. With weights, chains and see-saws. Or maybe just hitting celebs with chains to see their reactions. Not sure.

While thinking about how I am going to make my chains react, I took this photo. IRC stays on the laptop, terminal goes on the left monitor, and docs/game stuff goes on the right monitor.

To the left, that’s just two keyboards on top of each other (one with qwerty and one with dvorak).
