LD 41 April 20–23, 2018

I'm In!

It's almost that time of the year again! This will be my second LD I will be participating in, and I cannot wait. I'll be using: - Unity3D - Blender or MagicaVoxel - Bosca Ceoil

Teaming Up?

Hey guys, I am a 13 year old programmer and game developer. I started coding at age eleven and I love it! I was wondering if I should team up in LDJam 41. If anybody is interested in teaming up with me, make sure to leave a comment below . I know, my last Ludum Dare (LDJam 38) wasn't that great (I got overall rank 523rd) as I was busy with some schoolwork and couldn't make exactly what I had in mind, but yeah, this time around I should be free. So if you're interested, please tell me your area of speciality. Alright then, see ya :v:.

Hi everyone!

it will be my second time to take part in it. I intend to learn c # in 29 days and create the first game in 3d unity. I wonder if I will succed. Good luck!

Ludum Dare discord!

Have you been looking for a LD discord, like the un-official official one? That even has Mike Kasprzak himself in it? Well your search is over: https://discord.gg/KzvA3P4

[hacker voice] I'm in.

I told myself I would enter Ludum Dare 41, and I have. I intend to go solo for this one.

It appears to be obligatory to say what programs you're going to be using. That's a problem for me, because I'm not really sure. My first choice would be Unity, but my Maya license ran out, I'm not paying £5k for another one, and I really don't know if I can learn to use Blender from scratch in four weeks. My second choice would be PICO-8, but does that count? Are there restrictions on what you can use?

My final choice of game engine will probably depend on the theme that gets picked. In any case, this is either going to go spectacularly well or spectacularly badly, but I can't wait to finally give this a go, and I hope I at least have fun while I'm inevitably wired off my face on caffeine.

My First Ludum Dare!

Hey everyone, I'm Pranav, a 12-year old game developer/programmer.I have been programming from when I was 6. Ludum Dare 41 is going to be my first Ludum Dare! My game is going to be written (and made) in Godot. I am going to use GIMP for making sprite assets and FL Studio for video game music! I'm making it solo. I don't care how it goes but I just want to take a break for a while and have fun. :)

Save the Civies released!

Cor, LD is coming up! Not my first rodeo, been jamming for years, yet it is always fun.

I am doing something new this year, though. Working solo as an independent interactive-digital-media developer (a bit of a mouthful, eh?)

I've just released the first project: Save the Civies, a pausable real-time light-tactics single-player competition (take another bite!)

Do give it a spin if you have the time.

Cheers!

I am a 13 YO who is decent at 3d modeling, but i'm not that great at programming. If anyone wants to team up, comment.

Team up with unity or magicavoxel

Hey there!

I am Valeri.

It's my second LD. A previous game for LD40 was made with my mates @oleggkuzyk and @IvanMurzak. It was fun to make the game, but, honestly, not so much to play.

You can check https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/moses-truck

Now I am searching someone or team to join on next ludumdare 41. I can do very good c# code in UNITY or model something in Magicavoxel.

Skillcheck from my current project in progress. 😉 https://youtu.be/DE875A6qgi0

I'm In!!!

It’s almost time for Ludum Dare 41! This will be my first LD and I’m so pumped for it!!! (Actually my first game jam period) I’ve been programming for about a year and a half now, mostly C#. For LD 41 I’ll be using Unity 3D/2D, Blender/MagicaVoxel, Adobe Photoshop, and Ableton Live 9. I’m going solo for my first Ludum Dare because I want to know what I can do in the amount of time given.

I really like making games and I feel like I’ve come far enough to challenge myself like this. Best of wishes and a happy LD 41! (I posted this exact thing on another account without realizing that it wasn't my game dev account :') )

Heyo!

This will be my first Ludum Dare! I'm pretty new to making games but i feel like this will be a good challenge to see what I'm capable of now and to look back at in the future to see how far I've come. I will be using Unity, Blender for models, GIMP for textures and LMMS and Bosca Ceoil for music. I'm not expecting greatness but i'm going to give it my best shot and i'm going to have fun and learn stuff and i hope you do too! Good luck everyone!

It’s the time to do some work.

Ready to participate in my first Ludum Dare. I have been programming for more than 3 years but not a good artist. Going alone at this event. Ready to team up with good artist.

Ready for LD #41!

I'm a 14 year old programmer and game developer, I'm good at programming, but suck at art. That's why I'm teaming up with my friend on this one. This is our first Ludum Dare, so I hope it turns out well. Good luck to everyone out there. :)

EDIT: Just a little edit to let you know what I use to make games! I use Java and I write my code in the Eclipse Neon 3 IDE, I normally use no libraries, I like to do everything from scratch, I use PAINT.NET and Aseprite for art and assets, and I use Bosca Ceoil to make simple music for games. Thanks for all the feedback, and best of luck and joy to you. :D

I'm in... Will be making an online multiplayer game!

Over the last 7 years I've been taking part in Ludum Dare (as well as the Global Game Jam) with 5-10 friends using our own real-time collaborative game-making apps CraftStudio (XNA/FNA-based blocky 3D engine with Lua scripting) and then Superpowers (Three.js-based engine with TypeScript scripting). It's been a lot of fun and we made games aplenty! (1)

Confiture, a framework for creating online multiplayer games

This time around, I've set out to build Confiture (2), a C# SDL2/OpenGL engine & framework for writing online multiplayer games! I have been and will be streaming my work on it in the weeks leading up to Ludum Dare 41. Mostly commenting in French by default but happy to chat in English too!

Why this tech?

After fiddling with Web technologies so much lately, I'm kinda over working so far removed from the machine. It's really cool to have the "no install" experience and Node.js has cool sides but boy, it's just too many layers, tools, compilation steps and workarounds.

I think going forward I'll mostly treat the Web as a compilation target (through WebAssembly). C# / SDL2 / OpenGL are pretty good medium-term candidates for that, so that's good.

In the absolute, I'd love to work with a lower-level, non-GC'ed language than even C#, but I haven't found anything reasonable to work with at the moment (excited for Jonathan Blow's upcoming JAI language though!). I'm not willing to put up with C++'s idiosyncrasies during a game jam, especially not with a whole team and several coders.

The .NET ecosystem has finally gone truly cross-platform with .NET Core, including easy all-dependencies-included deployment. It has fast compilation times, a pretty great IDE, a lot of traction and a language whose evolution is at least taking game developers' needs into account.

Current status and roadmap

Right now I have all the low-level engine stuff done: windowing, input, rendering, packet reading/writing... The main tasks left are:

  • Networking: shuffling around TCP sockets and segments!
  • Some animated 2D sprite support and a small UI lib maybe!
  • A basic game logic structure including lobby & stuff so that we can focus on the fun parts during the jam!
  • If time permits, loading & playing back animated 3D models: glTF to the rescue!

So that's a lot of work haha, though I have experience with all of those so hopefully I can fit that into my spare time over the next 25 days! We'll see 😅

(1) Ludum Dare games, Global Game Jam games and recent games
(2) "Confiture" is French for jam.

We're in!

We are two twenty-somethings and we are HYPED for our first game jam ever! I've been playing with Game Maker Studio for over two years and i'm ready to test my skills. My partner in crime uses Aseprite to make sick pixel art, and he's ready too. We will use GarageBand for our music and likely Bfxr for sound effects. We can't wait to play some of your games, so hurry up and get here Ludum Dare!

I'm in!

I've signed up for GameJam! I will be making my games with Krita and Unity 3D, along with Blender. Bosca Ceoil will be my soundtrack maker of choice. It's my first one, so wish me luck! Fingers crossed I succeed in making my first GameJam game.

We are in again!

Fourth time trying hopefully second time succeding. Me and @Dhialga and maybe another guy will try to make a game with these programs: Unity 3D, Bosca Ceoil, Magica Voxel, Paint.net, Blender, Audacity and Visual Studios

I'm in

yeah i said this before but i'm asking Should i use PICO-8 or pygame i originally going to use pygame and i have experience on it but pico-8 seems cool as well i can't decide and as audio bosca cesoil for art ill probly use gimp and piskel mostly piskel

I'm in

Want to make an RPG with Unity, Piskel and Bosca Ceoil because all the games I've made so far for LD are platformers.
