made an app from the ludumdare skills

Hello fellow ludum darers!

Ludum dare competitions have helped me make an ios game.

S__10575874

for ios

Its super simple made for the web, as with the games made previously for the LDs.

Wouldn’t have tried making an app if it wasn’t for the experience making LD and getting feedback from the LD community.
Cheers and good luck on the next LD!

Oh im in!

Post-LD33 version of First Day On The Job – and I’m in

The short, small and bad Point & Click Adventure I created for Ludum Dare 33 is now better! I reworked almost the whole game, the graphics and added some important features and more content. It’s still very short and maybe a little fun. You can try it on itch.io, it’s free. It is my first finished game and I’m quit happy about it.

itch_loggo

And for LD 35: I’m in!

I’ll probably using MonoGame, PyxelEdit for graphics and still have no idea about Sounds/Music. But maybe i will use Unity 5 because i’m pretty new to MonoGame and maybe my idea will be easier implemented in Unity.

Discord!

I have setup a Discord server for those taking part in Ludum Dare!  People can come together here to share ideas, show off what they have made thus far, and just have a chat.

If you would like to join, then here is the link: https://discord.gg/0vg52oQolOvVQ91x

We’re in!

Me, ChaosChaot and spriteman will participate in the Jam again. Been a while since the last time we joined the fun.

We’ll use the Löve2D Engine for the Job!

Wuuhuuuuuuuuu 😀

I am in!

Very excited that another ludum dare is behind the corner. This is always exciting and can’t wait to start creating something

My tools  of the trade:

  • Editor: Emacs
  • Engine/Framework: HTML5/js with my custom framework
  • Image manipulation: paint.net
  • Audio/music: audacity

as you can see, I want to keep it simple this time around cause I want to get some sleep in first of all, and also because I hope for once to get it right with the scope of my game.

That is all for now. See you in the compo!

We’ll be there !

With a smaller team than before but the SPIRIT still remain !

I’m in!

I’m in, first time doing this ._.

How do i code? ” applies 😀

I’m in!

This is my first time jamming, so I guess I should focus on just making something playable. Maybe I’ll learn something new! Maybe I’ll fall asleep and fail to submit my game! Yay!

Im in!

This is my second jam. And im so excited about this… Because i have failed at the first Ludum Dare Jam.

Unfinished MiniLD66, but…

OK, in theory a week is longer than a weekend, but when you have 3 children, a wife, a job and a social life, it’s easier to focus on Ludum Dare for a weekend than maintaining a good productivity during an entire week.

So, my MiniLD66 is unfinished, but like always with Ludum Dare, it was not a waste of time. I’ve learned a lot again. I’ve used the Pro Builder plugin for Unity3D to create models, the “Marvelous Techniques Shaders” plugin and the Unity built-in animation system.
My mini RTS is not playable yet, but it may be a good start for a longer run project…

And HO! I’m probably in for the LD35 Compo!

Ludum Dare 35 – I’m In!

This is my first ludum dare! I’ll be participating in the jam. I made a game for the latest Mini Ludum Dare 66, but I’m excited for this one as it is the real deal!

Returning, again.

Hey guys! As usual, we’ll be organizing a Ludum Dare real-world meetup at our physical location, Tech Valley Game Space. Check us out!

Advanced Tactics: Mini RTS Post-Mortem

If you follow my twitter handle “GregGreenGame” you saw on March 30th that I was working on a project for Ludum Dare when I posted this picture:

image

I entered in mLD #66 “Construct an RTS”, it started on March 26th and ended on April 2nd.

Throughout the whole month of March I haven’t done a lot of programming or any work on Greg Green because our pixel artist stopped contacting us for over a month so we assume she quit (sucks because she did good great work). So I put a pause on the games that I had in development. Then mLD #66 was announced, and my buddy Kai (who I met on Ludum Dare in January), contacted me and asked if I wanted to work together because our plans with mLD #64 fell through. He does 3D art (modelling and texturing) and I am in need of working with an artist so I saw a fantastic opportunity to get back in to the programming mood.

v0.1

What you didn’t see is how the game actually looked when I first started it. All that was programmed was placing structures, there was no models but a simple UI and the feature for structures to not be placed on top of others. (indicated by color as shown below)

image image

Needless to say, I got over ambitious and had tons of features planned that we ended up needing to cut.

v0.2

I realized I wanted this game to be played in the web browser for ease of access to players, so I decided to use what I have before, the Unity3D Web Player. Never had issues with it before and it runs (used to run) on most web browsers.

The only browser I was sure it ran on was Firefox because Google Chrome stopped supporting the Unity3d Web Player Plugin near the beginning of 2014. I was unsure about other browsers but most people either use Chrome or Firefox.

I began programming Unit movement but the method I used was way to simple and became instantly scrapped, so I’m not even going to bother showing it. (See the new movement below in v0.3)

v0.3

I never knew how easy it was to implement pathfinding into a Unity project.

The only issue I had is I had to change the type of water I was using. I originally had a pretty detailed water system with moving waves (shown in the first image up top) but it did not work with the pathfinding system so I used this other one instead and it actually looked nicer in the game so it was a win-win.

UNITS CAN MOVE NOW!
Video/Gif: https://giphy.com/gifs/xTiQyBheiIUMVRb904/html5

v0.4

So as I explained in v0.2, Unity Web Player became deprecated and I was slightly unaware. Deprecated means that the feature still remains but is not recommended because it will be removed in a future update. However this wasn’t brought to my intention until I wrote this blog post.

I switched to using the HTML5/WebGL API which for a while now has been in it’s “(Preview)” stage, but it is slowly but surely taking over as Unity3d’s main web platform. I have had no experience building for this platform but I did not run into many issues at all, it actually worked with my UI a lot better than the Web Player for some reason (you can see the better menu below). The WebGL API is supported on way more browsers then the web player, AND it doesn’t require any type of additional download. I did have an issue by allocating too much memory to the game though. I thought the default (256mb) may not end up being enough so I thought I’ll just double it and crank it up to 512mb. This caused it to not be playable on some computers/browsers. Woops! I fixed this issue after Ludum Dare, in the Expanded Version.

Kai finished up some more models and textures so I implemented them into the game, the Gunner, the Tank, and the Berserker (they can all move). The color indicated structure placement was looking good and so did all the textures. I added more stuff to the map like an enemy base, satellites, and cities.

image

v0.5

I began working on the title screen but it had some UI scaling issues.

I also started talking to my cousin Josh about writing some music for the game and told him that the game was due tomorrow. He said no problem, I can do that.

So as I realized I was looking at an all-night mission I got the Armory menu working fully functional, you can hire a unit and give it a location and it will drive out of the armory and move to that specified location.

image

v0.6

Fixed up the Title Screen to look nicer, and with a functional music switch for the two tracks that Josh sent to me. They sound great, I can’t upload the audio here but really go check out the game and hear it for yourself.

image

I added on-screen controls so nobody trying out the game for their first time would have a hard time with a not-so-polished interface.

The beautiful addition here is Unit Stats on the bottom right of the screen, this allows the user to know what unit is selected, how much hp it has remaining, and if it is in attack mode or not. This helped understand the combat system a little more. (The image below shows the player’s Gunner unit attacking an opponent’s Gunner unit.)

image

v0.7/v0.7a  (The Release)

After a stressful night of getting the damn game in on time I realized the version I uploaded had a resolution error and it cropped the top of the screen so people couldn’t see their resources. I fixed this as soon as I could.

Kai made some GUI Button sprites so we didn’t have to use the ugly default ones, I also fixed some ugly UI scaling issues in the controls panel, the stats panel, and the menus.

image image

Then This. In my only attempt to build a last minute AI within an hour of time I gave the opponent an Armory that automatically builds units on a random timer that I set, and sends them towards your base. One thing I regretted was not spending another hour to get them to attack your base. They will only attack your units and/or move to your base and sit there.

image

I still made it possible to attack your opponent’s base and armory. Destroying the armory will stop your opponent from hiring more units. Destroying the base will allow you to win the game, causing the game to go back to the main menu (THAT MEANS YOU WIN!).

Conclusion

Yeah, I was over ambitious and me and Kai had to cut some features and assets such as: Airport Structure + Air Units, defensive structures (turrets), click+drag multi selection, a better AI, and taking over cities to gain more resources.

A couple other things I didn’t talk about were that I made the game give u resources on a set timer, and the game was originally controlled by mouse movement instead of Arrow Keys/WASD. It was Kai’s idea to add WASD control so we agreed it would be optional but I ended up liking WASD better than mouse so I never got around to making it optional. Oh and I realized after development that there is already an RTS game called Advanced Tactics that was released in 2013. This doesn’t cause any conflict because my game is titled Advanced Tactics: Mini RTS (/Expanded), but it was kind of funny to find that out. The name Advanced Tactics came from Kai and I believe it is a reference to Advanced Wars because that was one of our main inspirations.

I had no time to get in nearly everything I planned but I also was very busy on the first few days of the dare. I didn’t even have the time to post progress about the game on Ludum Dare like i did back in 2013 for the 7DRTS (My Entry). However it brought me back to that year and the caffeine fueled nights staying up coding. I needed that, it made me feel really good mentally and emotionally. It was revitalizing almost. It really encouraged me to continue work on a more frequent basis and even enter in future Ludum Dare events. I have no idea why it took me 3 years to come back to it!

Well anyways if you want to checkout the entry it’s right here: http://ludumdare.com/compo/minild-66/?action=preview&uid=24878

Advanced Tactics: Mini RTS Expanded

If you are interested in the future of this project you are welcome to see what I am doing after the dare. I am currently working on an expansion to the game and you can play an early build of v0.8 on Kongregate: http://www.kongregate.com/games/InDGaming/advanced-tactics-mini-rts-expanded

I will probably make a future blog post addressing any updates I make to this game, so if you follow my dev blog then be prepared to see more Advanced Tactics.

Geckoo says – I’m in !

As usual I will develop my game on Unity. I hope that the theme will be interesting. Whatever happens, I know that this LudumDare session will be gorgeous with many many many good projects. I wish you the best friends. Are you ready?

PS : take a look on my Itch.io page to see my previous projects ++

We – AAGH Games – are in again

I’m Budaniel of AAGH Games, and this will be our sixth straight Ludum Dare. We hope it will be our best yet!

We plan on live streaming again this time on our our Twitch channel, which is always fun for interacting with people and sharing our work. Last LD was our first attempt with Unity and we will likely be using it again this time. Here is our team, their roles and their most commonly used tools.

Budaniel (art, programming)

  • Photo Impact
  • Visual Studio 2013
  • Sculptris
  • Blender
  • Tile Studio (if we go 2D)

Floata (music, game design)

  • LMMS
  • Anvil Studio
  • Audacity

We even have a few new toys to try out this time (I got a new graphics tablet and we received a MIDI keyboard) so we’re looking forward to getting this Ludum Dare underway. Good luck to everyone!

Cleaned up and published the source for “I Spy A Ghost!”

I Spy A Ghost is an experimental p2p multiplayer game made in HTML5/Phaser using WebRTC. It got #4 in Innovation for Ludum Dare 33, and I thought I’d clean up and put the source up in case anyone wanted to tinker with a similar idea without spending too much time figuring out all the networking.

Github: https://github.com/OmarShehata/I-Spy-A-Ghost

I’m in

Will be using my usual setup of the following:

  • Engine: Unity3d Pro
  • Graphics: Photoshop CC
  • Sound: BFXR, Audacity and probably Adobe Audition
  • Music: FL Studio
  • Chronolapse: for time lapse
  • Source Control: Git hosted on github
  • Continuous Integration: Team City or Jenkins (undecided yet setting this up this week).
  • Task Tracking: Trello
  • Libraries: I will be using my standard starter project package located here

This Ludum dare should be good, I am trying to automate as much of the tasks that are not making a game as possible so I can focus on making the game :).

I’m in!

This is my first LD, so I can’t wait to finally participate

Engine: Gamemaker Studio

Graphics: Photoshop CC

Music and Sound: BFXR, Audacity, FL Studio 11, LMMS

Wish me luck!

I’m in

This will be my second LD. This time I’ll try to keep it simple and add some sounds.

Setup:

  • Engine: Unity Personal Edition
  • Graphics: Blender || Photoshop CC
  • Sounds: Bfxr
  • Music: I have no idea aka google time in last hour

I’m in! …my birth cry will be the sound of every phone on this planet ringing in unison.

I’m going super pro this time, going for two of the best tools I know of:

Unity (with WebGL target, so people will actually bother to try the game). Maybe just simple geometric shapes, so no art tool required. I don’t think I have the time to draw anything while trying to figure Unity out. I’ve never used Unity, so it might be pretty challenging to get anything submitted, but I felt it was high time to switch from Flash. I’m following this great free Unity tutorial in preparation.

For audio I’ll play with Ableton Live. My last entry was audio-only but did really well, which made me realize just how important that is. Ableton looks suuper confusing, but I’ve found it to actually be quite intuitive. It’s a bit like Buzz Machines used to be, allowing you to chain a lot of effects together in fun ways and can even do some melody generation with “arpeggiator” and other neat tools. It’s expensive, but has a free trial.

lawnmower_man

I’m in the House!

have been looking forward to this..my goals this time

  • do not make any graphics/ code first
  • try to make the compo deadline this time, in stead of extending to the jam

good luck everybody

I did only make it to jam last time also 😀 I could have done it to compo, but I was wanting to add music and sounds and was getting stuck with it :o, but other than that the game was finished. Can definitely say, that the very first priority should be to finish the prototype and THEN flesh it out 😀

yeah, that would be the recommended way, but most of the time i want some graphics to have a good feel of where the game is going, or there is a certain picture i have in my head for the game. I have participated 4 or 5 times but never made the compo :)

I’m in!

This is my third LD !

and my tools are:

ART: Photoshop or the GMS image editor.

CODE: GML.

SOUND: Flstudio + my bass + lo fi effects.

as always my little big companion by my side: Mocos ♥ (in english is “Snot” i think)… (my cat).

suerte ;D

I am in!

I had to miss the last 2 due to being out of town for work but it looks like I will be able to take part in this one!

Language / Engine: Most likely GameMaker for the speed.
Audio: SFXR or BFXR, autotracker.py, I don’t like autotracker that much so if I have time I will try to google something up.
Graphics: Paint.NET or Gimp

I do it! Again!

Second Ludlum Dare! The first one went great, and my Wife barely wanted to kill me after it was done!

Tools this time around are gonna be:

Hardware – MacBook (More mobile/flexible than my MB Pro)

Microphone – Blue Yeti (I did fully voiced dialog last time. Might do the same, or maybe just for SFX)

IDE – Unity (I do professional GameDev in Unity so…)

Editor – Visual Studio Code (No more Monodevelop!)

SFX – Live and bfxr

Music – Logic Pro X (I suck at music, just ask anyone who played my last game)

Sprites – AseSprite, Graphic, Photoshop

3D – Qubicle (I don’t know if I’m going to do 3D or 2D), Cheetah3D

MUSIC COMPOSER/SOUND DESIGNER for LD 35!

Hi all,

I am an experienced music composer/sound designer, having worked on a couple of mobile games for Android/iOS. I would love to work with a team and contribute to creating the best gaming experience possible.

Please check out my music at www.soundcloud.com/nikhilkmusic or my website at www.NikhilKMusic.com to hear samples of my work.

Looking forward to meeting you all!

I’m in again for the 7th time

I’m actually starting to get somewhat experienced with this. Yeah! I have one problem though, I have not developed any games in a pretty long time. I have been busy working on some projects, some of them are related to games, some are not. But one of the projects I have been working on is a game engine that I can use for Ludum Dare competitions. Here is the github page. Unfortunately I have not been able to implement all the features yet so I have decided not to use that. I will be using these tools instead:

  • Game engine/editor: Godot
  • Text editor: Neovim
  • Image editor: Krita
  • Sound / music: Undecided, can hopefully just choose something simple

The next weekend is going to be really fun. Good luck to everyone!

It’s been a long time, but hopefully I’m back!

All of you probably don’t recognize me, but I’m Masterfireheart. I participated in a few LDs/Mini LDs about a year ago, making music for several games before kinda moving on. I really liked the experiences I had then, so I’m going to try and get back into it! I’ll gladly help collab with anyone who needs someone making a few songs for their game :)

Someday I hope to get into game development as well so I can participate with my own ideas! But for now I still have fun writing tracks for others (and later remaking those tracks into something else) so hopefully this LD will be a great one to return to!

You can hear my (actually good) works on Bandcamp:

https://masterfireheart.bandcamp.com/music

and Spotify:

(I also do some art, if that’s a request :D)

Welcome back Masterfireheart!

We’re In!

Me and 2 of my close friends have decided to participate in the Jam 35!

Jake (me) – Programmer / Game Developer
Garen – 2D Artist (3D Modeling if needed)
Melissa – 2D Artist (Music if needed)

I participated in a previous dare as a solo and created “Sol Defender” which ranked #149th in the Jam (not bad I dont think)… Anyway, I had a lot of fun so I convinced my friends to join me this time! Should have nicer art and an overall cooler game to showoff at the end!

We will be using Unity for our engine, Photoshop for our artwork, and C# (Mono) for our code to make our game.

Looking forward to a fun time next weekend!

I’m in

Its another Ludum Dare time!

I always love participating and I feel like I learn something new every time. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like I’ll have much time over the weekend but I will still try.

Since I didn’t really like my last entry that used Unity, I want to try again because Unity is very popular and it looks like it has a lot of potential if one can use it well.

  • Unity
  • Paint.NET
  • Blender?
  • Audacity???
  • Other things I find with Google.

I will also try using fellow Ludum Dare participant’s timelapse tool ProLapse for making a timelapse because they’re fun and I haven’t made one in a while.

Good luck everybody!

I’m in!

I’ll probably be using:

I’m in once again

for the first Ludum Dare of 2016.

I’ve been lazy the last few months. I hope I didn’t get rusty.

Platform: Web
Language: Dart
Libs: dartemis and other stuff on pub if needed.
Base Code: some utilities to reduce the amount of boilerplate code I need to write
Graphics: Krita
Sound: Audacity

Good luck everyone and have fun!

I think I’m in

I’m a long time web developer who just started trying to get into game development.

Luckily I have the whole week after off, so working for 72 hours straight is actually possible.

I’ll probably end up with some janky, half-baked thing that barely works (if it works at all), but I’ve always been really interested in these events and there’s no better time than the present.

I guess I need to spend the next week figuring out which JavaScript engine I like.

I’m in :D

This ganna to be my first LD.

Tools in plan:

Engine: Unity

Code: Visual Studio

Sprite & Tile: Aseprite

Sound Effect: sfxr

Music: boscaceoil

Script & Design: Onenote, SAI

Ludum Dare ayy lmao

I’m looking forward to competing in LD 35!

I’m in!

First LD!

Going to work with GameMaker so I have enough time to finish the game.

Art will be difficult for me, but I’ll do what I can!

Anyone looking for music? :D

I know ya’ll are gonna make some great games, so how about having some music to accompany ’em? Yeah? Yeah?! Yeahhh.

I’m a composer! And I’m looking for someone/a team to work with for this upcoming Ludum Dare. I should’ve done this when I first posted on here (doh!), but thanks to someone’s brilliant suggestion, my eyes have been opened and now I have the foresight to share a link to some of my work! I also work in Logic and use samples from East West, if that means anything to you guys x)

So! If you’re interested in working together, HIT ME UP…otherwise I’m probably just gonna skulk around and see if anyone else needs music > u >

Hey there,

Your music is VERY impressive, so far “you all start in a tavern” fits my taste perfectly – love the flute work.

If you can produce sound tracks like these within the 48 hours I would have loved to work with you, but unfortunately I already have my Audio person.

Best of luck, I hope you find a team, and I would be very keen to see the game you guys make – just to hear your work.

You are great, really :3

But I will come to solo-mode Ludum. :\

Really, try Stencyl or Game Maker – we are programmers, and can’t draw and write music good \0.o/

But with game constructor you can do great platformer with story and music. (if you will spend some time before to do tutorial, of cource)

In Again

So I think I’ll give it a second go. Last time I used C and my custom game engine (Kawaii Engine). This time I’ll do something faster:

  • Python
  • PyGame
  • Pyg Engine (new custom engine)
  • SDL (via PyGame)
  • OpenGL (possibly)
  • The Gimp
  • Spriter (possibly)
  • TileEd (perhaps)
  • SFXR (sound would be nice)
  • Git
  • Wine

This time I hope to actually produce Windows packages (Un*xen (including OS X) should work from the source release). I really hope that using a language more suitable to rapid prototyping will allow me to produce a better game this time.

I’m In! Compo

Hey everybody, I plan to join Ludum Dare 35. This will be my fourth LD already, and my second compo! I use these tools:

Engine: Unity

Language: C#

Graphics: Blender, Gimp, Photoshop

Audio: LMMS, Audacity, SFXR

I’ll be making a timelapse of development, like my last LD. Stay up to date @PowerSparkGames, thanks for reading and good luck this LD!

I’m in and excited!

After participating in MiniLD #64 as my first Game Jam i’m now in for the main event!

Greetings from Liquid Media

Greeting all I am in for the 5th time. I will be using Linux OS only this time Experimental Beta Unity 5.4 Blender 2.7 for 3D modeling, LMMS Linux Multimedia Studio sound and music, Gimp artwork.

This time I will still be working solo but plan to do the Jam. (Real Life)  business stuff is going to limit my programming time to about so no 48 hr for me more like 4.8 hr this will be fun :)

I will not be streaming, but I plan to do a video recap after the weekend for YouTube.

Have fun all.

I’m in for LD35!

I was on the fence about it for the longest time, as I’m going to be out of town and arriving home very late on the Friday of Ludum Dare weekend, but I just can’t bring myself to sit Ludum Dare 35 out after the last one went so well.

My tools:

  • Unity 5 with Visual Studio,
  • Photoshop for graphics,
  • ChipTone for sound effects,
  • REAPER and my iPad for music,
  • and AutoTileGen is always on call, but I haven’t used it for an LD entry yet.

My standard disclaimer about reusing code from previous entries applies – in particular, my level loader may finally be clean enough to just snag whole hog. I also keep Aron Granberg’s A* library close at hand as it’s served me well.

Let’s do this!

Gearing up for Ludum Dare 35

Our team is eager to start voting on the themes for Ludum Dare 35.

We’ve done 2 jams before, and are looking forward to our third event.

Hopefully we can continue to improve

  1.  Goblins
  2.  A Shot in the Dark
  3.  TBA

This time one of devs will be taking a break since he will be graduating on April 23rd,  so all programming will be done by Phoenix Smith this jam. Congratulations Paul and we will see you next time!

We are working to secure more teammates, but no matter what, this will be a great event.

Phoenix is going to try and Stream the event on his twitch channel, and we will be posting screenshots and updates on Ludum Dare and our Twitter during the event.

Happy Gaming everyone

Our real-world meeting is mentioned on Hackaday!

Hackaday

Hey! Looks like Ludum Dare real-world meeting at Tech Valley Game Space (Troy, NY) is mentioned on Hackaday!

And to draw in the hardcore game programmers, a concurrent Ludum Dare game jam will be run by the Tech Valley Game Space, with interaction and collaboration between the AR/VR hackers and the programmers encouraged.

Remember that if you want to check us out, you can sign up at the Meetup below:

Walpurgis Night

Hello all. I’m definitely in for the upcoming Ludum Dare. In fact, I never miss one… if you ignore all the ones I missed.

One of the Ludum Dare game jams I definitely did enter a few years ago was MLD47 with its theme “Humble Beginnings.” For this I created Fireworks, a remake of my first ever from-scratch game, which was a survival shmup (or dodge ’em up, I guess!) set in a fireworks display. Later, when I was moving into the realms of mobile development I ported this over into an APK, both to get a feel for the platform and so I had something to play on the train. It got the interest of a few people and my friends encouraged me to create a full version. So I did.

There are a lot of changes over the original game, especially when it comes to the amount of content. There are multiple levels with unique patterns, the patterns themselves are a lot more interesting, and collecting spent fireworks results in a chaining system. The different levels and skill-based time skips mean it hits a variety of difficulties but keeps the sessions quite small. Instead of the clock being a set target the game is now endless, but at key milestones (1, 2, 3 minutes) you unlock stars for opening additional levels… Hopefully there is a lot here to sate the bullet hell aficionado.

In!

I’m in once again, however I will unfortunately be unable to stream any of my game development this time around due to a strange work schedule that weekend. That also means I will have minimal time to create a game, but I should be able to pull off something again! Since I will not be streaming I will be doing a timelapse as well as constant twitter updates @CodeNMore!

I’ll be using my regular tools, likely Java with Eclipse, Paint.NET, BFXR, and who knows what else. Maybe I’ll switch on over to Love2D and try that out for a change and learning experience!

I’m in!

If I can pull myself away from Enter the Gungeon for long enough, I’m in for the Compo.

I’ll be using GameMaker:Studio, photoshop, SFXR, and Audacity.

Last time was a hoot, and I made one of my favorite entries. I also learned a ton about feel and feedback. Let’s make this time even better! (woo!)

When Will There be a California Gathering for LD35?

I was just wondering if someone was going to add a Real World Gathering in California, I would love attend one. Favorite if you agree, comment if you have any information.

Hey folks, found this cool music generator. Is this compo legal?

http://www.abundant-music.com/

So in essence, you plug in a seed and set a whole bunch of settings, and it spits out a midi. I’m PRETTY sure this is compo legal, but I thought I’d see what you guys thought.

Yep, completely legal.

Oh also, I’m in

So. In for a penny, in for a compo.

I think I’ll be using Unity, and making a 2D game. I’ll probably use Paint.net for my sick, sick programmer art, and http://www.abundant-music.com/ for my music if I can confirm it’s compo legal. Anyway, looking forward to it!

Hey! I was just wondering, would you be interested in having original and customized music for your game this LD? I’m a composer and I’d be totally down to work some tunes for you, but it’s totally okay if you just want to use the website as well > v<

print “I’m in”

I’m in for the second time! 😀 Last time I said that I wouldn’t use Python again but I haven’t had time to play much with Unity yet so I’ll be using Python again.

This time I’m bring some peeps with me to handle the music and art so I can go full force on the game. (And not ruin the framerate with a fancy overlay effect to cover up the pixelart :’) )

Hopefully I can learn some new things again and make something better than last time. I already found a few fun Python libraries to play around with so I’m very excited!

3D world

I made my first 3D world recently and would really appreciate some feedback from some more experienced game developers.

Here is a link the to the game.

Thank you!

I loved the hand drawn style, as well as the graphics that follow the player. It is a nice 3D world, however my main improvements would be to finish up the graphics( I think they seem a bit rushed at the moment). But the style you are going for will look great after some more polish. Also just a small comment, when you fire the bullet it goes slightly off course, this can be frustrating to some people.

I don’t consider myself an experienced game developer, but it could use a bit more level design! Maybe some hills or buildings :)

Me? I will also be “in” as I think they call it

Just so you guys know….

I think I will make something havily focused on music/sound this time, of course if the theme allows.

Tools:

  • JUCE (C++11 framework)
  • Pixen or generate geometry for art
  • Ableton Live for Music

Have fun all!

I’m in ! 3rd LD and VR for first time !

i’m in and i will try to make my first ever V.R game
this warm-up weekend i managed to make the plugin for VR cardboard Android phone work
with unity.
I’ll be using Unity with Playmaker + “TrinusVR” plugin
I should receive my cheap plastic headset to have the full experience tomorrow
and be READY TO GO for LD35 !

I’m in!

This time I plan to make something in 3D. Only bricks and rendering.
And Unity 5.4 of course. If I’m lucky, I can after the ld35 to tie to prototype in-house Shader.
Last time I focused on the limited resources and bind to the season (HNY).
I had to put the resulting game until the autumn – HNY ceased to be relevant.

I still want to experiment with mobile interfaces (which differ from the mouse and keyboard).

Let your ideas will be really cool. And don’t forget to make a tutorial. 😉

I am in!

I am in for my second LD (excluding the one MiniLD I’ve also participated in).

This time with no team, with SFML and not so much time, so I rather be in for a Jam entry.

I hope that something with time manipulation, space travel or creative restriction (3 colors, 3 buttons) will win as the theme, because I am in mood for those ones 😉

my first LD

Tools:

  • Javascript(playground.js) or puzzlescript
  • Gimp

In for another #ldjam

Using Unity, Aseprite, and BFXR. Hopefully finishing this time around, have a string of misses and I’m determined to get one in.

INiAM

again,

as always not sure how much time I will be able to spend, but as always I hope I will learn a ton. LDs are the only time of the year that I can get myself to carve out a small space for my dream / hobby: making games that ppl want to play (well, i am still quite a bit of that target, but rome wasn’t build in a day, hehe).

I will use

And the whole thing will be stitched together with the best IDE there is, Jetbrain’s PHPStorm 😉

I hope everyone will have as much fun as me and a satisfying LD

I’m in (first time)!

Hi everyone,

My name is Siegfried Croes and this will be the first time I participate. I’m not new to game development though, I did a study where I learned both coding (C++) and graphics (3DS Max, Photoshop) and I’m a full time multimedia designer for over 4 years now. I’m also working on a game in my free time called Tales of Lena.

This jam might give me the opportunity to realize some of the small games I have on my mind and hopefully I will also learn how to work faster and not get lost in details all the time.

The tools I’ll be using:

Engine: Unity / HTML + Javascript
Graphics: Photoshop, Aseprite
Audio: EnergyXT, Audacity

Want To Try This!

Hi all,

I’ll try my first LD using:

  • Code: Unity w/ C#
  • 2D Art: Photoshop
  • 3D Art: Blender (possibly)
  • Sound: FruityLoops

I will make everything myself except the sound effects. I’ll use free open source ones. I can build stuff for web with Unity, but I’m not sure how we go about posting when we’re done. Hopefully I can get this done in time, because I have a kid, too! Should be a hell of a lot of fun!

Composer/Sound Designer seeking project

Hello! I’m a composer looking for a team to collab with for the upcoming Ludum Dare. My soundcloud is below, and I’ll include a link to my site for reference. I haven’t done many games yet, and I’m looking to build my portfolio, so I’m open to any genre. I’m also proficient in sound design, and I’m up for any jobs relating to that as well.

  • Engine: Fresh
  • Language: C++
  • IDE: Xcode
  • Platform: Emscripten (Web)
  • Music: GarageBand

Is your engine open source?

THE AWAKENING, a.k.a I’m back & I’m in!

Quite hard times were coming in my life, forcing me to miss LD entirely for the rest of 2014 and in the entirety of 2015.

But now, as I created more content than ever for a game, and as I learned a new language, I want to be in, to provide a browser game for you this time!

Language: JavaScript! Lua was great, but the time of online content is coming.

Framework: PhaserJS! LÖVE is one of the best frameworks ever, but it’s time to learn something new.

IDE: JetBrains WebStorm! Quite a huge jump after Notepad++ I guess.

GFX: Paint.NET, as usual.

Sound: SFXR. I can’t forget the beautiful simplicity of it.

Music: Kev MacLeod! I’m about to realize that music is vital.

This time, I’d like to make a “promo game” for my worldbuilding project that has quite a lot of potential story-wise. I hope I can produce something successful, just like in late ’14 with The Last Beacon.

Here we go.

I’m in for Ludum Dare 35. I’ll be using Java.

  • IDE: VIM
  • Platform: Web
  • Music: An obscure Flash app I used for my last game or time to try Garage Band

what is the obscure flash app?

Getting Ready, I Am In!

This will be my 6th Ludum Dare, and 2 year anniversary of my first attempt! As always I am pumped! I’ve been spending this weekend rewriting the framework I prototyped and hacked out last LDJAM. Here’s what I am using:

  • Language: C#
  • Frameworks .NET/MonoGame/Coldsteel
    • Coldsteel is an engine/framework/library? I am building on top of MonoGame to ease the amount of coding I’ll need to do during the competition. I like reinventing the wheel because I learn a lot about the structure of such things. In keeping with the rules, it is freely available to everyone here if you want to fork and live dangerously…
  • Editor: Visual Studio Community 2015
  • Graphics: Gimp, Paint.NET, Inkscape, MSPaint, Spriter
  • Audio: BFXR/SFXR, Audacity, LMMS, Bosca Ceoil

I may try out a few additional Audio/Graphic tools depending on how things go. I also have a new rule for this LDJAM: Absolutely no alcohol. I’ve tried to employ this as a creativity enhancing tool in the past and it has not gone well.

Good luck to everyone participating! I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with :-).

LD35 : I’m in !

After 2 amazing LD33 & LD34, I’m in again ! This time I’ll have less time over the weekend but I’m taking the challenge !
Looking forward to all the incoming amazing games 😉

We are in! (First time Ludum Dare)

Hello, this is the first time we are going to take part in Ludum Dare!

Are Themes Sorted By Popularity?

When the Theme Voting Round began yesterday, there was some text at the top of the list claiming that the themes has been “sorted by popularity” but I can no longer see this text. Did I just imagine this? Can someone more in the know clear up if the Theme Voting rounds are simply randomly sorted or if the top of the list were the more popular themes during the Slaughter?

Thanks everyone and have a great LD35!!

I’m in (and I hope not only me)

Hello! Much has happened since my last LD.

As I mentioned before, I din’t participate in the competition in LD 34, because I already had uncompleted games for “Grow” and for “2 buttons” themes. So, I used LD34 weekend to complete them and submit to the PlayMarket.

Also I was so inspired by the idea of Game Jams, that became the organizer of the very first Global Game Jam in Ukraine. With the help of higher educational establishments in my city, Kirovograd, we had a great event: 78 participants, 14 games and 1k twitch views.

One of the games created during GGJ was mine (I managed to get 6 hours of work for the cost of sleepless night).

So, here is my Global Game Jam entry: Cloudy Shaman

Cloudy Shaman

In March I presented my LD33 game, Something Deep, at the first International Conference on Game Jams, Hackathons and Game Creation Events in Berkeley and got “Best in Showcase” award!

On the 12th of April we’ll be holding a local IT-conference and I’ll be speaking on my gamedev experience and give advice to the participants. I hope more developers from my city will Ludum Dare this time. I definitely will.

Also I’ll surely find the time to release my “Something Deep” game from LD33.

Nah, you’ll be fine. 😊

I’m in again

I’m going to be in again. I’m planning on using Unity to make a 2D game. I hope this will be the first time I finish without a partner. I’m using Ableton Live for music (I’m planning on making the music dynamic). I’ll use as minimalist graphics as possible.

This sounds fun, I’m in as well.

Alright people save a seat for one more first time jammer!

I’ve been informed that showing off the tools/programs you intend to use is tradition so I’m stepping in armed with…

Unity-

Blender-

Gimp-

Audacity-

Renoise- (At least one is not so prevalent heh)

Good luck and happy dev’n all.

In for the Sixth (Seventh?) Time

Hello people/other-semi-intelligent-lifeforms!

It’s been quite a while since I participated in Ludum Dare! According to the website, I’ve participated five times, but actually I should have participated six times. Last August some friends and I worked as a team for the first time and spent 2.5 days making a game before I realized we weren’t going to finish. So that was fun. Not really. I skipped last jam as well because it ran during the weekend before finals, but now I’m finally free again! I’ll be working alone again this time and entering the compo.

Tools:
Code: Unity – Wasn’t sure about this one. Usually I program my games in Java, but this time I think I want to focus more on the aesthetics so I’ll be using Unity to save time. C# for scripting.
Audio: FL Studio, Audacity, SFXR
Graphics: GIMP, Blender
Accessories: Pinot noir, cherry Bawls, instant curry
