If you are just doing pixel art you can actually use the game maker sprite edit. It works pretty well for simple things.

Oh, sfxr! I use that for my games! Very good program

I’m in!

I am back to hopefully finish my second LD-game. Last time was good fun, really looking forward to another go. I reckon I will probably be in the compo again, but that is still not certain.

Code: Java (libGDX + some stuff for sound or such)
Environment: Eclipse
Supplies: Iced Coffee, regular Coffee, whatever noms I get my hands on
Graphics: Gimp, Paint.NET, mmmmaybe Tiled Map Editor?
Sounds: Undecided, but i’ll probably use my Keyboard for sound effects again?

Good Luck ya’ll!

Can I do it? Probably not.

I’m going to enter this month’s Ludum Dare despite having little experience with Game Design. I know only the basics. So, 12 days to practise. Can I do it?

Welcome to LD! And the basics should be enough to figure something out. There are plenty of tools and tips thrown around the site, so I recommend checking those out! Good Luck!

Testing, 1, 2!

Hey there, I’m Sylverstone Khandr and I’m glad to finally have a Ludum Dare account. Hoping to participate a lot over the summer, so look out for that!

Thinking about Ludum Dare

I am still not sure if I can dedicate enough time to join this Ludum Dare. Real life has gotten in the way the last few times and it’s persistent for this one too.

3 kids and a wife, We will also be in the process of moving. I’m not sure if I will be able to make it. Alas perhaps, we’ll see. I hope to be able to carve some time out for an interesting game. If not. I wish you all the best, Cheers!

Another year, another try!

Last year was my first LD (#29, also in April), this LD will be my second one. And although I have to take care of my two boys over the weekend I’ll give it a try again.

I hope I’ll manage to finish another game in 48 hours and get a better place than last year (one has to have goals, right?).

Like last year I’m going to use:

  • GameMaker:Studio for coding and maybe some pixeling
  • Some of the SFXR tools for beep, beep and booom
  • RealDraw Pro and/or PyxelEdit and GameMaker for my crappy programmer’s art
  • Pretty surely no music unless I manage to get FL Studio started for the first time after I purchased it months ago…

Good luck and have fun over the weekend to all of you!

I’m in, again

I’m in, yes, again. This will be my second time, after my participation in the last one. I will be using:

  • Dart language with krentile
  • Gimp for the graphics
  • And Audacity and maybe something more for the sound

Good luck!

Black Box practice game finished

I just finished a small puzzle game for One Game a Week with the goal of preparing for Ludum Dare.  You can try it out here.  Instructions in game.  Comments and thoughts welcome!

Very cool. Go haxeflixel!

Excitement is on the horizon.

I am really excited for the LD #32! So excited, in fact that I can’t even begin to describe how excited I am.* I have no real idea what I’m gonna use, but it most likely will be either java or unity, as usual for me. I might even go so far as to use LWJGL if I use java. While writing this little post I am currently watching Zero Punctuation**; a show that is giving me ideas on what to do. For those of you who know what ZP is that’s kinda of an odd thing to say. Anyways, I do hope the theme won’t be a burning pile of garbage bad***.

*Please ignore the fact that I already did hint about how excited I am.
**Just search it on youtube if you don’t know what it is.
***You know the ones.

Not sure what gives me that impression, but I do believe you are excited. Just a guess.

Meanwhile I’m joining the ZP spree.

Looking for an artist.

Hello people,

Anyone wanting to team up for the LD32 ?

I know i’m not a great coder, but if anyone is looking to team up. My ideas are usually better suited for pixel art games, and i love 4 color games. So, perhaps something like that?

If you want to see some of my games, check it here: http://www.classicgames.com.br/

Anyway, let me know, please. :)

I’m not an artist myself, but I might refer you to the person two comments earlier than you – an artist looking to team up. Good Luck! XD

I’m in!

What can be better than a weekdend developing games?

My first big Ludum Dare (Made a game for the last MiniLD), really can’t wait!

I will be using this arsenal:

Game Engine: Unity3D (But i suppose i will make a 2D game)

IDE: MonoDevelopment

Art: Gimp

Sounds: A microphone and Jfxr

Music: FlStudio

Level Editor: Tiled

Good luck everybody!

In for my fifth LD

So, I’ve been doing various jams since LD31, travelled around the country a bit.

I tried to organise a meetup for LD32, but no one responded, so I’m cancelling.

Anyway, I’ll most likely be participating with Java & LibGDX. Looking forward to it!

Any young developer here?

I’m 13, I have been coding since i was 10, but i have been interested in computers and programming almost all my life.

I used to make (extremely simple) python games…

I’m wondering if there is any other young developer participating in Ludum Dare!

If so, feel free to say how you started, etc!

Cheers!

(I hope i have posted this on the right place…)

Hey, What’s Up?

I’m 14 and I’ve been making games for almost 2 years now. It’s kinda cool to see I’m not the only person that’s not a 20+-year-old doing Ludum Dare. I’ve been using Unity the whole way too.

Hi there! I am 14, and have been learning to code since about 8. I taught myself Python, c++, all the web languages, node js, c#, haxe, etc. I think I am pretty fluent in c++ and haxe, and have a strong mindset for clean organised code architecture. No I am not kidding, these arn’t like hello world apps, these are databases and network libraries.

I’m 15, I’ve been coding since mid-elementary school. [though for all you know about me, I could very well be a 50-year-old creepy man, but of course I’m not since I’m admitting that I could be – or maybe that’s just part of the trick! One can never be too careful.] C# is my language of choice, though I learned through Scratch and GameMaker, before going to the web with JavaScript and then PHP, doing some C# console applications, and going back to GameMaker with its built-in language instead of blocks, and then using C# again when I found Unity. I really need to focus more, which is why I’m using Unity again for this LD even though there are other engines better suited to the ideas I’ve had.

Yep, 13 here as well. I currently know Python, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. I started off when I was 7 years old with HTML4 web programming. I’ve since learned HTML5 and CSS to make website better, and Python and JavaScript for making games. This will be my first full Ludum Dare. I plan to use HTML5 Canvas and JavaScript to make my game.

14 years old, been programming since I was six. Mostly code in Javascript , HTML, and CSS, and sometimes python (I can learn languages fast though, I learned the basics of R in couple hours back in elementary school). I am not great at programming games, and I usually code web applications. But so far all the games I have made for ludum dare so far have gotten under 100 in at least one category, hopefully the luck will continue.

Hey! I’m 12, I have a lot of experiance with python and Construct 2. I know how to make games with the module “pygame” and I’ve made a lot of GUI programs with python (using the module tkinter) such as a zipfile editor, music player, email sender, calender etc.

I and a friend of mine are both 16 years old, and so we have so called team ROKTOM. I am programming since 12 years. Not such a genius like people in the posts above :D. I Know C++ and GML (Gamemaker language) quite well, also learning C# and java, but I just started my journey of an OOP programming. Still i’am noob and have only 2 games on android market, both with around 6k downloads. Bye.

I’m in – Second Ludum Dare

I have learned my lessons from my first outing and am definitely participating in the second ludum dare. My tool set is similar to last year, though it has expanded a little:

Code:

  • Love2D – Game Engine
  • Notepad++ – Code Editor
  • Mercurial – Code Revision
  • Bitbucket – Code Hosting

Graphics

  • Inkscape – Art

Audio

  • Audiotool – Music
  • sfxr – Sound Effects
  • Audacity – Audio Editing
