I’ve not had a chance to check myself, but how is Futile working out for you?

so lonely

so, Cipher  just posted a link to the world Ludum Dare map. I added myself and now I feel so lonely:

Really? No one out here in AZ?

If it’s any consolation, I have some great friends over in Phoenix.

I’m in AZ! (Mesa area) I’m just too paranoid to put my full address onto a public map.

I used to live in St. David (an hour south of Tucson)… So I *was* there! Let the ghost of previous coding endeavors comfort you…

Nobody cares

I’m sure nobody cares it, but i’m in in this competition. For the first time.

Using pure Flash AS3. For the second time.

We do care, for every single one of you new people! You are the new ones we can help and explain things to, and that is a lot of fun! :)
21. Aug 2012 · 16:37 UTC
Heh, I can somehow relate to that. :)

I’ve been here a bit longer, though (LD #18) 😉

I will care whether you want me to or not! 😀

It occurs to me that infernet could have told us no one would care to, in a reverse psychological fashion, make us all comment on his post and remember him.

Let’s do this.

It seems that I’m the 38th to chose this title. Must be a good one.

So. First LD, I’ll see what I can do.

The Tools :

  • Framework : LÖVE. because of the pink.
  • Language : Lua. because of the LÖVE.
  • Editor : Emacs.
  • Graphics : GIMP probably
  • Sound : Some piano soundfont, maybe I’ll borrow my roomate’s guitar for fun. Editing with Audacity or Ardour.
  • Cake : chocolate, flour, butter (alot), sugar

Well, I can’t wait now. Have fun everyone!

I’m in!

You may remember me from MiniLD 35 when I attempted to make a game with my limited knowledge of java at the time. But now, after another book and much more experience, I finally think i’m ready to participate. I’ve been practicing my weakness lately, which is timing and synchronization, and I think that I’ve finally worked out all of the kinks in my timing script. Whatever the theme may be, I’ll try my best to deliver a good game. See you all on the 24th!

Tools:

Language: Java

Code: Eclipse

Art: Paint.NET/PyxelExit

Sound: SFXR/FamiTracker/MixCraft

A new Challenger Approaches!

I’ve kept putting it off because of real life things getting in the way but I’m finally going to buckle down and do it this weekend.

Prepare for Unforeseen Consequences

“Prepare for unforeseen consequences”

Yes Yes Yes!!! However I don’t know if this would be good. My only inspiration for this would either involve using copyrighted characters or cheap parodies of copyrighted characters. I could probably come up with something creative and cool for the theme, both in story and gameplay, and just include a little easter egg there. But I feel like a TON of people would be doing Half-Life related things if this was the theme.

wow! still using Fx? So few space…

Can’t wait!

Hey everybody,

I’ve heard about this for a while but I’ve never had a chance to participate up until now, I’m super pumped and ready to rumble! :) Wish me luck on my first time entering!

  • Language: Python
  • Editor: Sublime Text
  • Libraries: Pygame or Pyglet
  • Music: Stuff like as3sfxr
  • Graphics: Paint.NET

P.S. Am I the only one who’s sad that Kittens lost hardcore in the theme voting? :(

Kittens always lose, but don’t let that stop you from putting kittens in your game.

it’s a running gag :D. if you look closer, people either vote +1 or -1, hardly 0. actually, I was surprised, that kittens didn’t made it dead last ^^

Haha, thanks for letting me know! xD I’ll still vote for Kittens every time though! 😛

Ah, what the heck… I’m in

I’ve been following LD for quite some time, but it was always timed perfectly bad (can’t you take a look at my schedule before planning an event? 😉 ).

This time I’ll do my best to shove free enough time for some killer game industry revolution… or something like that.

I’m going to use
Dev platform: MacOS, Arch Linux (though the product should run on Windows and Android, too)
Language: Java
Libraries: Slick2D/LWJGL
Engine: My own jump & run engine if it’s finished before compo start, my own component framework if I find webspace to up it 😀
Sound: some sfxr flavour
Music: What the hell? Do I need music? Damnit… possibly my guitar or your imagination
Graphics: the GIMP, MangaStudio, AnimeStudio
Goal: Finishing something actually playable

I’ll also be glad to give advice on Mac/Java/Slick/LWJGL related issues as I did on previous contests (though I’ll lie if your game is much better than mine… *lol* only kidding)

“My own jump & run engine”.

Feeling the Urge to Make Stuff

Well, after having spent the majority of my summer doing math and making pretty picture (with math, of course), I’m ready to finish off summer with a good ol’ fashioned Ludum Dare. This will be my 5th Ludum Dare and I’ve always made something I’m happy with in the past dares (and I’m pretty proud of what I made in LD 23). I’m excited to see what I’ll make this time.

Nervous about my first participation

Ludum Dare 48 will be my first time participating in this event, or rather in any game jam event. I’m still not sure what I have to expect and if i can handle it.

For programing I’ll probably be using the C# with the XNA framework since I already got some experience with it and learning something new like unity in such a short timespan wouldn’t be possible. Maybe I’ll prepare a little bit better next time :)

I’m nervous because I have no idea if I’m even able to manage to create something that’s not completely worthless. But we’ll see!

Greetings from Austria and have fun to all the participants!

Don’t be nervous. I’m participating the second time, and I think I had the same problems in my first competition as you right now.

I started programming and as I advanced in developement I changed my whole concept every 20 minutes as I discovered more “innovative” ways to do something.

At the end of the competition I just got a bunch of user friendly APIs glued together and a game that lastet 13 seconds. Just focus on creating the game you thought of at the beginning(you really should do so), and don’t make the same mistake like me.

Viel Glück!

I am in

This is my third LD. The first one I didn’t finish. The second one I decided I didn’t have time to do because of schoolwork. Third time’s the charm. Will be using Pygame most likely, Clojure with LWJGL if I can get it to work in a warmup game. Also going to use GIMP, sfxr, Audiotool, and my guitar. That’s all!

I tried using Clojure with LWJGL earlier. I also tried Slick. Slick is *really* nice and you can mostly follow along the tutorials translating Java to Clojure. The only problems I had with it was it’s not REPL-friendly. So I wasn’t able to start the game loop, then re-evaluate functions in emacs and have the game change live. That’s a disappointment if you’re used to Clojure programming having such a fast feedback loop.

LWJGL was similar except there’s less game abstractions available so you end up doing more work.

With both (well they both involve LWGJL) you need to native libraries for things to work and that can be annoying with Clojure (but not that difficult to sort out).

I’m In!

This will be my first Ludum Dare entry and I’m very excited :D.  I hope I am able to make something that I’d want to play, and maybe be able to continue it after the contest is over.

  • Language: Java
  • IDE: Eclipse
  • Graphics: Photoshop for detailed art, Paint.NET for basic art
  • Sound: SFXR
  • Music: FL Studio if I have the time (I hope so), or maybe Musagi

I’m in

My first LD. Hope I’ll make something descent. I will use LimeJS (because javascript is something that I knew very well).

Good luck for everyone.

Welcome aboard! :)

Ludum Dare #24, I’M EXCITED!! Erm… Yeah.

Finally it’s time for Ludum Dare again! In my opinion, one of the best game development contests started up so far.

These are some “Specs” etc:
– Location: (“Earth, Europe”), Sweden, Jönköping

– Operating System: Linux (Ubuntu), Windows 7
– Language: Java
– IDE: Eclipse
– Sounds: SFXR

Now, if you’d like to watch my warm up of Ludum Dare, you can go over to my livestream. I’ll be livestreaming most but not all days from 4PM to 8 PM (GMT +1) at Livestream/Ulixava! 😉

Thanks,
Alexander Hållenius, > 12 && < 28

Montana Is In

Hey guys! Glad to be participating. This is my first game jam and I’m hoping to create something fun.

I just setup my 2.5d art pipeline so I’m hoping to use it in the contest.

  • Language: AS3
  • IDE: FlashDevelop
  • Engine and Libs: Flashpunk and a small personal code Library
  • Graphics: GraphicsGale, Blender + Automation Scripts, and TexturePacker
  • Sound/Music: sfxr and FL Studio (time permitting)
  • Sleep Deterrent: Excedrine (better than coffee 😉 )

Probably taking part

*copy/pastes from last time*

I’ll be using Python/Pygame, Pymunk if I do physics, probably Bfxr and Autotracker-Bu to generate audio, GIMP for images, Kate/Vim for the coding, my Python modules, and my game template.

I’m in!

I’m so excited to participate in my first Ludum Dare! =D
