Ludum Dare 59 April 18–21, 2026

Here I am!

First timer, few skills, zero chances, soloing as hard as I can!

Wish me luck and may a unicorn assist you too (:~~~~~

I am in

Wanted to join last time, but I didn't have any good ideas and was quite busy, which let me to quit. Yet now I got more energy and motivation and I hope I can make this time a nice game! :)

Yeah also I hope the theme is good. Anyone got tips to get good game ideas? I suck at that...

Good luck!

We're in

This time there are 13 of us. Each year the number of team members in our team has been surprisingly large. This year is not an exception.

Stream Games

How many people here would be interested in people streaming their game jam entries? Personally streaming the ludum dare games is a highlight of every game as it gives me an opportunity to meet other devs as well as try out their games in a way for people to get real time feedback. Let me know your opinions and I might stream the games after the jam is over!

I am in

I've always watched ludam dare from afar and decided its time to participate, this will be my first actual game jam.

My goal is to try

Good Luck <3

First time Ludum Dare

Greetings to all fellow Gladiators!

I've been creating and tinkering on games since I was a teenager and it got me into programming. My first game ever was a risk board game adaption I shared with friends - in Turbo Pascal on MS-DOS. Then I wanted to create a Game Engine, because if you didnt write everything yourself, you didnt really achieved it, right? lol. Well, I never finished the engine and learned I shouldn't try too.

Now after 25 years working in the industry professionally (but almost entirely not in the games industry, because it eats souls) and working in a VR team for my media company using Unreal 4 and later Unity I finally settled on Godot for my private tinkering.

So its time to finally use my many years old Ludum Dare account! Yes!

I'll try not to sweat it, aiming low in scope and reach some finished result. I'll be working with my non-dev partner and have a fun weekend together.

Our stack will be: Godot 4.6 (OpenGL) Blender (For Low Poly assets if needed) FL Studio (Music) Audacity (Recording Effects) Aseprite (Sprites & Textures)

Export to HTML5 and Windows, deploy on itch.io

Good luck and a lot of fun to everyone!

Construct 2

photoem5411263716558312964/emy.jpg Is anyone using this game engine?

I'm In! Ludum Dare coming to an end?

Probably my 20th go this time around, I've lost count many years ago lol

I'll be using the typical: Engine - Unity Audio - Audacity Code - C# IDE - Visual Studio Art - Photoshop Modeling - Blender Music - LMMS

I'm motivated but bummed a bit for this one as I've heard the jams are coming to an end :(

I've enjoyed doing these competitions for a really long time. I don't think anything could quite fill the void that ludum dare will leave behind, and that makes me a little sad. I've been doing these since my days in high school all the way back in... oh god... 2015?

Anyways, I hope everyone has a good jam and we get some awesome entries!

Have fun everyone!

The tools I'm gonna use

Hi guys, here are the tools that I use for basically everything and am going to use for the Ludum Dare this year!

IbisPaint X - Art FL Studio 2024 - Music/Sound Design HaxeFlixel - Coding (Might just use c++ tho I haven't undecided)

Another good luck to everyone participating!

Hot Potato Challenge: No comms + pass the game

hotPotatoChallenge.png

As a group of friends who want to join Ludum Dare but don’t have much time individually, we decided to try a “Hot Potato Challenge.”

We’re splitting the development time between us and passing the project along without any communication. No planning, no coordination. Just pure chaos!

It’s probably going to be messy… but definitely fun :D Wish us luck!

If things go well (no promises), we might even share a timelapse afterwards 👀

Here's our lineup:

Excited for my second ludum dare!

i haven't had the freetime to particpate for a while, so i'm excited to do another ludum dare! hopefully, i've learned from the last one and my game will be better, but i am a little bit rusty from taking a game-dev break for half a year, so we'll see, either way, i might not make a platformer this year!

We're in!

Once again, our little team is here to try our humble best. It will certainly be one of the games of all time.

See our previous LDJam efforts here: https://timhugh.itch.io/

i wanna more BASSSS

ld_post3.png Ludum Dare is already very close and I want to wish that your games have the juiciest sound design! Just turn on Audacity and add more bass!

I'm in for my 10th year of LD!

I can't believe it's already 10 years since I first took part way back in LD35. I still remember the fun I had making a transformers inspired platforming/space shooter blend. Hopefully my skills have improved a little since then! Shipshifters1.png

I'm looking forward to making something fun this weekend and being annoyed about the theme for the first hour or so 😂

I am IN!

This is going to be my 9th entry (12th if you count all unfinished ones and MiniLDs) and 3rd with PICO-8.

Recording 2026-04-17 at 23.34.11.gif

It starts in 3hrs, but it's pretty late here so I might just go to sleep.

The target is, as always, Compo (I often end up in Jam time though).

Preparation summary

  • ☑ made time arrangements (kid sent with mom for the weekend, took leave on Monday)
  • ☑ project directory created, themes voted on
  • ☑ pico-8 started
  • ☑ created itch.io page
  • ☑ re-read my previous post-mortems
  • ☑ cleaned up my desk
  • ☐ went through my notes on Lua programming and PICO
  • ☐ prepared all relevant libraries
  • ☐ did a test project

My stack

  • ☑ PICO-8
  • ☑ VSCode (all AI removed)
  • ☑ Aseprite? maybe?
  • ☑ base libraries disclosed here
  • ☑ coffee machine

noemclankers/em150.png

No clankers. I write code, create art, music, everything myself. It may turn out to be sh!t, but it's mine. If anyone reads this as a statement - yes, yes it is. See my earlier post.

Good luck to everyone! ❤️

The Keyboard Cowboys Ride Again!

keycow.png

It's that time of year again!

Come check us out at https://www.twitch.tv/coleslawski if you'd like to see our shenanigans in action once the jam goes live!

Thinking

Idk yet if I'm participating, considering the news I'd wanna cherish the things while they last but I'm pretty much burned out because of uni, full time job and participating in jams for two months with little free time

maybe if the inspiration strikes tho

Naka ni imasu

Doing the Jam.

I'll be using Godot, Claude, and potentially Aseprite, Tiled, Audacity, Ableton, and/or Reason.

Teamed up with @mosh

Good luck everybody ♥

First Post To Ludum Dare

Hey everyone, I didn't know this place was a blog. This is not my first Ludum Dare Game Jam but it is my first post.

It is 2 am in my region and i am waiting for the theme(it will be announced in 2 hours, can't wait, I am excited and sleepy).

We have 6 more Ludum Dare left, it is crazy. I am glad to be here. Good Luck everyone!

Excited!

It has been a long time since I've finished an entry, but I always have fun!

No artificial minds will be working for me. I do sometimes generate concept art, but nothing generated will make it into the game itself.

I'm back!

Hello! Cutting it close on the announcement post but I'm back for LD 59! LD 56 was my first ever game jam, and while I haven't done a Ld since then, I have been doing game jams every three months since then, though I'm on a six month gap since my last one now. But, I'm ready to shake off the rust and dust, got a slightly bigger team this time, and excited to see what we come up with.

What if nobody has to be the next Mike?

I joined at LD50 and I've only ever done Compo, so LD59 would be my tenth in a row. What keeps me coming back is the community and the format. You ship a game, rate others to obtain karma, and get real notes and good feedback from people who just finished doing the same thing.

Reading Mike's post and then Sheepolution's, I think both of them have a point. @pov has carried this thing for 17 years through a job hunt and a house on the line, and he doesn't owe anyone a clean handover. @sheepolution is right to ask what happens to the community once Mike steps back.

The three years that are left don't have to be a hunt for the next Mike. They could be spent making sure nobody has to carry this alone again.

Open it up to anyone who wants to help run LD. Not a vote, not a popularity contest. You earn your way in by the work you ship (PRs on GitHub, helping Mike to organise next Ludums, etc.), and by having done a handful of Ludum Dares yourself. Mike keeps full veto all the way through LD64.

By the time LD64 wraps, five people have real access instead of just one. And the access is split, so no single one of them can do anything drastic alone. Day to day, any of them handles it. The heavy stuff only moves if most of them agree. Three year terms, renewable once. If someone quietly disappears, they step out. On top of that, the site backs itself up every month to archive.org. If the whole group ever fell apart at the same time, someone out there could still bring it back.

Mike stays around as emeritus after LD64, with no duties. He keeps the final say on the name until that edition wraps, then it passes to the group.

This is just my humble opinion, but what I'd like is something that doesn't depend on any one person, so Ludum Dare can keep going.

We're in!

Raylib + eecs + edat + Aseprite + Bitwig + OPL3 VST would probably be our toolkit this time.

No clankers, pure homebrew stuff, like from your grandma.

Good luck everyone and first of all - have fun!

It's been awhile

I never made it as a wise man

[Insert Oblgatory 'I'm In' Post]

Welp time to add another LD to my collection!

lmao

Stream Time!

LDGameSS.png

Same as usual Unity for it's web Export, though I hope Godot gets C# web exports soonsome recent stuff seems promising so fingers crossed

Besides that same as usual, Blender, Affinity Designer, GIMP, Aseprite, LDTK, LMMS, Audacity, the usual. The new kid is VSCodium which is just VSCode without the MS Tracking stuff, so not a huge departure there.

Hope everyone is ready to go!

Don't ~~forget~~ to eat, hydrate and sleep!

It's important!

Ready!

20260417_122739.jpg

Yeah baby!

Cannot wait to see what the theme is. Good luck to you all!

I'm in!

Time to add another gamejam to the list. Doing it alone this time. Wish me luck!

Joining LD59

It's been a long time since I've tried one of these, and planning on the compo no less. Using SDL3 + a bunch of code I've written. Can be found here: https://github.com/WilliamBundy/ld59 Might end up using SDL_mixer, Box2Dv3, and luajit, among other libraries.

Theme prediction poll: final update

At less than 1 hour to jam start, these are the poll results.

2026-04-17_20-10.png

Let's see how accurate this was.

Link is still active if you want to see live data: https://linkto.run/p/Z5CUDM7Q

Woohoo!

Hello! This is my first game jam ever!! I’m curious/excited to see what I can come up with in this time. I will be using Godot as my engine and either Aseprite, Procreate, or Inkscape for artwork depending on what the theme turns out to be. Not sure which program I will be using for sounds just yet. I’ll be working on my own for this project. Good luck everyone! I’m looking forward to trying your games =)

First time.

Hi! It's my first Ludum Dare.

Ready to jam

Prep work done: - Created repository from last jam's engine. - Tested full build pipeline. - Updated Helix. - Updated Bitwig, installed yabridge, got some cool VST instruments. - Ran theme prediction poll.

Still have not decided on art tools. That will depend on theme.

I really want to start already.

Hello, World!

Let's GAMEJAM!!!

30 minutes to go...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jK-NcRmVcw Just 30 more minutes until the event begins and the theme is announced!

I'm in (or am I?)

I'll try, if the theme helps.

Probably (*) the usual stuff:

Would love some help with the graphics and audio aspects, but I'll probably end up doing everything myself (and yet, skipping Compo because I need the extra day 😅)

(* I've thought about pivoting to "normal" dev stuff, like Godot... maybe on a future LD or something)

Woohoo!

Hi! this is my first jam ever! I'm excited to see what I can come up with in this time. I will be using Godot for my engine, and either Aseprite, Procreate, or Inkscape for graphics depending on what the theme turns out to be. Not sure which program I will be using for sounds just yet. I'll be working on my own for this. Good luck everyone! I'm looking forward to trying your games =)

Hiiiiiii

This is my first time to ioin a GameJam! Hope a happy journey!

I'm gonna make a game!

Maybe I have become wiser, and not just older, in the time since I last gamejammed. This is unlikely!

Whooooooooo

I'm racking my brain to get started. I really want to participate! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :v:

We're in!

I'm a developer, my brother is an artist, we both use Unreal engine a bunch and we haven't done a LDJam in over two years! Super excited to give this one a shot and hopefully we can keep our scope small enough this time..

Cosmic Adventure Squad checking in!

* We're in for the 59th Ludum Dare!*
We did our first LD in 2011 and have been keeping it up as much as we could despite time zones, life updates, and more. It's been such a special part of our lives. Here's hoping it'll live on forever!

LudumDare59.png

Anyways,
while you wait patiently for the jam to begin, why not try a mini jam by playing * Game Name! *

GameName.png

Thanks, and best of luck to all!

I think I'll create it in HTML.

I'm too lazy to mess with Unity, I think I'll just create my game in HTML hahahahahahahahahahah AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Good luck, everyone!

Trying Godot after working in Unity for several years. Excited

I'll do everything with AI if I can.

I'm thinking of using Claude, Nano Banana (who doesn't have experience with 3D yet), and ChatGPT to review the code.

Ready

This will be my first game jam though ive known of ludam dare for years

Tools

  • neovim
  • godoot
  • blender
  • inkscape
  • chromium
  • linux
  • tea

Good Luck ^^

I'm in

I will be using the usual tools: HTML/CSS/JS and maybe REPLICA Framework 1.5.1. Pencils, paper, Krita, etc. will also be used. Feel free to use the framework code, if you wish, but it's a mess.

Good luck everyone!

Game Jam?

Sounds delicious, hew-men!

Last minute decided to join

I haven't done a Ludum Dare in many years and never alone, I've always just done the art while a friend programmed. Going to use this as an opportunity to dive deeper into Rive and try and make something only with it. We will see how well that works out :)

Time for Hell

It's a very voluntary hell though, so have fun everyone!

We are IN !!

Our team will be entering for the 20th time! we'll be 4.

This time we'll aim for the highest of ambitions : ... a playable game, maybe without too many bugs ... Wish us luck ! and good luck to you all !

we'll probably use : - Godot 4.6.2 - Gimp - Audacity & Abletone

signal?

what on earth do i do with THAT

Let's go!

'Signal' is...a word! I'll be figuring it out soon enough, I'm sure! Best wishes to everyone participating!

WHAT YOU SAY?

WE GET SIGNAL.

MAIN SCREEN TURN ON.

Theme = Signal

Now I'm gonna have to figure out what to do with a game associated with a signal. Might be a rhythm game or platformer or something...

Signal...

That is... quite the theme. Not one I was hoping for (the wrong tool for the job was the one I wanted), but it's pretty open so it'll be fine. Probably.

I've already cooked up a few ideas, all of which are puzzle platformers though, so I'll try to avoid those since they are quite over done. I really like idle/incremental/factory games (though the latter is probably too complicated for the scope possible in a game jam), so I'll try getting an idea with one of those.

OMG, I just came up an interesting idea with "split"

I thought "split" was the first option when I saw others' voting posts. I came up with an idea that in card-building games, the gameplay could be carried out by "splitting the cards". I think it would be quite fun. Then it shows up "signal" (Sigh...)

Signal?

Can you hear me now?? Something with cell-phones maybe?

I'm putting the coffee on now, lol.

Aiziet!

images.jpeg

I always come back!!!

At this Ludum, i have 3 only one artists!!! I have more than 3 times chances to be listened!!!

springtrap-five-nights-at-freddy's.gif

Awesome!

I only voted up 5 themes, and this was one of them!

My game will be a Nintendo DS game

I love coding NDS stuff so I decided that's what I'm gonna do for my game >:3

It does mean you cant play it in your browser and need to use an emulator to play it but I don't care, my idea is cools

Signal is so vague...

My brain completly blanked out like what am I gonna do with signals... :hushed:

signal, signal, signal....

so far my top two ideas are either fun mechanically or fun storywise but i haven't yet found an idea that does it for me in both aspects, hmmmm

Signal

Not too bad. Somehow I came up with a good idea but I reckon it might be a bit big. We'll see. I'm gonna do 2D for once! This is a sprite of the character I just knocked up

Main Character.png

Godot Signals

I can make a Godot game, use its signals system and I'm done!

They didn't specified what type of signals 🔥

Did the jam start?

...or are we still waiting for the signal?

Give me a word!

I need a long list of random words for my game so comment a single word on this post and I'll put them into the game!

I'm in.

signal.png

Signal

The theme is signal...

OK... You are a weird little gremlin thing that is safe in a bubble in the centre of the screen. You leave your bubble to follow signals to collect... egg... token... things. You return to your bubble to store the things before the time runs out.

Reality shifts and a new signal is created. There's a shift in the colour of the world and hidden things are revealed. This could be walls or monsters or other things which impede your progress. You must venture out again and collect the things. Who knows why? Before the time runs out you return to your bubble. And the world shifts again to a knew signal and colour state and new obstacles.

And so on.

It's 3am here so it's time for a snooze.

Signal idea I'm not going to use

There are npc populations. You are an other-dimensional entity. You draw in their crops and they interpret it as some kind of signal and they change their behavior. You learn what kind of shapes cause what kind of changes

Anyone else going back to Godot 3.x?

Web export didn't work for me when I used Godot 4.x in previous projects. (4.x web support is described as "experimental" in the docs, but that's too generous.) My game won't need any of the newer version's features, so I might as well use the older version and give players the convenience of playing in the browser. Hope I don't get confused by the subtle changes between versions.

My game will be a Rhythm Heaven-inspired game where you have to react to the enemy's movements to defend against their attacks.

I'm in!

I have been attempting this Jam off and on since 2015. Let's see if I can actually submit this time. I'm flying solo using Unreal Engine 5.

Even if I don't submit, I will learn so much this weekend!

Meet the Slimes

Screenshot 2026-04-18 031255.png Idle.png They can be used to power radio signals!

Huh, signal...

Once again the theme somehow takes me by surprise even though I voted for it!

Lets see, a game about signals, are we sending, receiving, or maybe we're intercepting them?

Yeah let's try that!
