Progress report!!!

Cue the unoriginal blog title. moving on. So, so far I have scrapped 3 ideas.

Idea 1 was a port of an old MMF2 game that I liked really well and wanted to see it in flash. It didn’t feel right.

Idea 2 was a snake game like flow. I scrapped that cause I remembered, oh yeah, no one’s done snake in Flixel before so I don’t know how to go about it.

Idea 3 is what I’m going with for now. It’s sort of like an increpare idea. I forget if he has you take away or something. But the idea is, you are presented with cromosomes, and you are told the next one you need. You have a menu of 4 at the bottom. You click on one, then click on the part above to see if it matches a formula to get a new piece. There’s something about moves and such but I don’t know what for yet. Oh, wait if I really wanted to be like increpare I shouldn’t have said anything and said it’s a game about pieces. Okay, moving on.

Mini-jam game:

Uh, yeah, I didn’t get that finished. Knew I shoulda said something earlier but, ah well.

Just thought I’d share this.

EarlyBuild

Begin

So I can add objects into the game now. The first level I think is going to be set for a tutorial. Then I might randomize the others. At least it’s a start. Not buildable yet but a start.

Wow. I actually did it.

I submitted a 48 hour game entry. It’s short, but it’s finished. Wow. The world might just end this year.

Screenshot:

ScreenShot

A level.

I wanted to do more. But I ran out of time. Maybe in the jam edition. But. Wow.

On Posting

Yeah I failed there. But, I tried the whole community thing before. Post your lunch, dinner, breakfast, your first level screenshot, your first sketch, your first enemy. The player controls, yadda yadda. But, I had a problem. I’d pay more attention to doing the community stuff then finding out what to do on my game. But I yeah. I’ll tell you what. I’ve uploaded the source too. That like a fair trade? Anyways.

Good luck everyone!

Twitter score?

A lot of us are on twitter. I was just thinking that there should be a way to tweet your scores. I think it’d be neat. Just a thought.

I’m Jamin’!

Hopefully I’ll be able to jam with a buddy on twitter. But probably not. So. I was wondering if anybody who’s wanted to jam before would like to make a  Jam team with me?

I will be using:

Flixel (flashdevelop)

GrahpicsGale/Gimp

Sfxr(bfxr)

Fruity Loops

Still looking for fellow jammers to team up with!

I’d really like to jam with a good group of other people. More time plus a decent team equals a better game all around. So, so far the team is:

-Me

-Wixio

-Other person who may or may not be able to jam

I don’t really care what your skill set is. If you want to make a game with other people or you’ve always wanted to collaborate before, then sign up below!

I can make music really fast. Can I be in?
07. Dec 2012 · 20:13 UTC
Oh and heads up. I work on weekends. From 2pm-8pm my time and finals to study for. So I’ll have a small window, BUT I can make music fast. So i’ll just have to chime in, see where we’re at, and compose something. Hopefully that’s cool with you.

Team Jam Head Count!

Hey guys! I just wanted to let you all know what Team Jam will consist of. So far, we have:

-Programmer: xhunterko (me)

-Programmer: davidsgallant

-Programmer/Designer: Wixio (please comment below if your still in!)

-Audio: MaverickProgrammer

I would love it if an artist or two would join up! Also if your a smaller group and want to be part of a larger project, consider joining! Or if you’ve ever wanted to collaborate with someone else but never have got to, come in! Post below if your interested!

(programmers: while I’d like for the game to be developed in flixel (so i can help), and ludum dare is really not the best time to learn a new language (at least for me) consider any way cause you might be able to port or you may have another skill set we could use!)

One more thing! Team Jam twitter members! The tag #TeamJam should be used for the jam game updates!

Construction

Cause, you know you want to build robots!

All right. So, as for Team Jam rounding up. I wish there was some sort of message system here otherwise I wouldn’t have to do this. However! I’d still like to go through the list:

Programmer: Me!

Programmer: davidsgallant

Audio: maverickprogrammer

Designer(?): Wixio

Other: ???

But really, I’d really love it if we could get some more people or an artist or two here. If you have a skill set that you’d think you can contribute then post below! We will be grouping up in the chat on Friday!

Also, Construction. Cause robots are cooler then zombies.

Team Jam Report! Super Villian Con.

Greetings fellow villian devs! In this first night we have layed out a basic ground work and name for our game! Though it’s mostly Holly’s idea. So far, we are doing a base building game where you are buiding a convention center to attract various types of villians before your time is up! So far, the feature wish list includes:

  • cats
  • super computer rooms
  • fish tank rooms
  • laser guns
  • single story top down style
  • security
  • Hero/spy attacks
  • rewarding the player with more time for doing well
  • different room features to attract different villians
  • bars
  • speaker rooms
  • villian booth shops
  • tank with sharks with lasers on their heads

The player also has to keep track of how much funds they have and their guests happiness level. As well as keeping out for a timer before their time is up. That’s all for now! Stay tuned for more updates from the Super Villian Con team!

Team Jam Report

Well, this has been an interesting day.

We are down one member after some reason or another, but we’re trudging on nonetheless. Right now I have the scrolling implemented but you can’t place anything yet. Been getting some art assets though so that’s good. I’ll probably have placing done later this evening I hope! I’ll update folks then!

Last Team Jam Report!

Well, this has been an interesting weekend. Not only did my programmer buddy left me, but today I get up and my artist says it’s not good for her to  march on either. I tried to do a little bit on my own, but I just didn’t have it any more. I was also gonna try to program a small back up game on my own, but I couldn’t focus on that either. So I regret to say that Team Jam is no longer and not submitting anything to the jam compo. I’m not sure what went wrong. There’s no who’s fault is it either. But it doesn’t matter. What I really wanted to do, was work with a couple of other skilled people over a weekend for fun. Which I did even for a little while. So, what did I get done? Well, here’s a room placement, thing to paint with:

http://www.newgrounds.com/dump/item/f442a9dd450a2716e91461e0f4d3faa7

The idea Super Villian Con was I think to build up a convention center only for villians and keep it secure. So you would of had to build up your meeting spaces, add on to the starter convention hall with various rooms. And then you had to build unique features to attract different villian types. All within a time limit. After the limit, your base would be attacked by super heroes or spies trying to shut you down. You’d fail or succeed depending on how well you’ve build up your base defenses. I would have at least liked to have gotten people running around in there, but again, I just couldn’t work on it. Oh well. Hopefully I’ve learned something for the next jam.

Later’s and good luck all!

Late Start!

I should have started a couple hours ago but was watching a movie instead. Oh well.

Anyways. Good luck to those participating!

Can’t wait to see what some of you come up with!

Deadline…

Since it’s a little vague as to when the deadline is, let’s try to address that.

Since a few of the entry’s started early, and a few people might start late, I think it’s only fair to allow for at least 2 days to work and on it and one day of polish. Since that’s pretty much what everyone else got. So, the proposed deadline is Wednesday!

I’ll leave the final word to Pov. But let’s use that as a guideline shall we?

Good luck to the remaining jammers everyone!

Jam Over!

And that’s a wrap folks!

Honestly that’s the most fun I’ve had in a jam in a while. Even if I had a few problems and unforseen hiccups along the way. I was able to finish a jam game on time! (the universe must be getting ready to collapse in on itself, prepare your souls)

And to top it off, at least 11 (not counting myself) of you submitted a game! I only expected 1 or 2, not 11! Especially since, due to circumstances, the original jam starter guy couldn’t finish. But I’m surprised that we got so many games! This has really been a pleasure!

Whine Jam

Hey y’all!

There’s been a lot of hate going on in the game making community for some reason against somebody. And honestly I think a lot of that energy is misdirected and should be focused on making games instead. So! Without furthur ado, let me introduce the Whine Jam:

Get Twine From Here: http://www.auntiepixelante.com/twine/

Rules: Twine ONLY.

Due NEXT MONDAY.

Test player’s honesty.

No use of Special Commands to check if a player has something or not.

Example: Click here if you have a candle. Click here if you do not.

Theme: None.

Other then that, have fun and make a game! I’ve chosen twine because it’s super easy to make a game in there. You can work on it whenever, don’t have to worry about sound or grahics, and worry only about making a good story. Hopefully this’ll take care of some of that pent up energy and hate and we’ll have a little fun in the mean time. Good luck!

Participating!

Hello lovely ludum dare folk!

I’ve been away from the ludum dare scene cause of my new job. However, since I am unemployed I thought I should participate in this ludum dare while I can.

So, yes, I am participating in this ludum dare! Yay!

Things I will be using:

HaxeFlixel

GraphicsGale

Gimp

Fruity Loops

As3 Flixel as back up

My As3 Flixel Library

So, I’ve been playing with HaxeFlixel and thought about using it for this Ludum Dare. I thought it’d be neat to try. And if anything, I can fall back to Flash Flixel if I can’t get anything working. So anyway, that’s the plan. Have fun everyone!

Forgot Something

Seen some other people post this so I might as well.

I’ll also be using FlashDevelop.

There. That’s all the tools.

Late

But dang you guys! Wait up! Those look super nice!

Anyways. I’ve just now started on my little idea. It’s sort of a drag race game with kittens.

Each kitten has only 10 seconds to live and your trying to get them to cross the finish line.

I’ve no screenshots yet so I’ll probably miss screenshotsaturd for the game. Ah well.

Let’s see how this goes!

Good luck everyone!
