Thanks Sony for a great gathering!!! … And PlayStation 4

I’m now going home from a fantastic real-world gathering at Sony’s office in Lund. I feel so honored to be awarded their first price, a PS4, and I want to thank all the staff heartly for arranging this lovely event. If you ever get the chance, if they arrange it again, go there!! So much nice people, food included, great prizes, totally free and very well arranged in every aspect!

There were many great games in the competition and many worthy winners, and I look forward to try the other ones as soon as I get home.

Over all, it’s sad to leave a great event, but the evening is just starting and more polish will come!!

Let the crunch-someness begin! And good luck everyone!

Looking for android version beta testers!

Hi everyone! Thanks for a great LD!!

My game pond tycoon will soon be released for android and iOS in cooperation with my game company Mjölnir Games.

For the upcoming version I’m now looking for a handful of testers to find potential problems and test it out on different hardware.

The app also has a plugin for the SmartWatch 2 so if you have one of these it would be beneficial as well!

How to apply:

If you have android and want to participate in the beta, send me an email to r.lindh(at)mjolnirgames.se and I will get back to you in a few days when we launch the beta.

“Game Jam Memories” coming soon on Spotify & iTunes

Hey again awesome people!

Thanks for all great feedback on the music in Pond Tycoon!

The soundtracks of three game jam games made by me will soon be up on Spotify, iTunes and several other music services.
These are the tracks:

  • Polytonia Soundtrack (LD28)
  • Pond Tycoon Soundtrack (LD29)
  • Fiddle Daily Soundtrack (BossJam 2014)

My artist name is Robinerd, and this mini-album, “Game Jam Memories”, will be available in approximately 2 weeks.

I am also just about to release the post-compo version for android and iOS (more info here), which will take several weeks because of Apple’s approval process. But don’t worry, you can still play the web version:

The iTunes link doesn’t seem to work, it takes me to a spotify page (which doesn’t work).

WTF. I just wrote down a game idea for an Anno-like game which plays on a pond few days ago XD

Cool music!

oh really? seems it’s damn hard to do something unique! Especially in a LD 😉 Thanks for your comment!

Need your advice please!

Hi everyone,

another LD coming, and I really don’t want to miss it. For once, I’m actually busy with other things and have limited time (because of birthday and such stupid things). BUT I won’t pussy out just because of that, no matter would it be I use much less time, there will still be a game, for sure!

My consideration is from two options, and I would like your help to choose! Either I go for the jam instead with more time, and might convince some friends to team up. But that kind of feels lame since I would be able to use 3rd party assets which feels kinda lame. The other option would be to spend more effort on design a  really small concept which is still fun to play, and execute it in the compo despite very limited time.

So, fellow masters of LD, what is your advice?

(PS. It might be a bit too rude to cancel my birthday party with gf and family and everything)

Really just depends on weither or not you can come up with some good concept. Also, no one is forcing you to use third party assets and doing it with a couple of friends would probably be a lot more fun :)

Making a game in one day or less works, but your concept must fit your time.

I’d give the compo a try, you can always switch to the jam if the game is definitely not ready enough.

Let it depend on the theme and how much you get brainwaves when the comp starts. if yo don’t feel it, do the jam..

Thanks for all tips! You’re right, I’ll decide when I know the theme depending on what I feel. Some of my friends were interested in jamming so I think that would be fine. And could be great to do it as a team for once!

Dear Sister – A Musical Experience

Please listen to the theme music while you read the story below.
http://robinerd.com/music_files/dear-sister-theme-draft2.mp3

It’s extremely rare, but sometimes when people die they decide not to cross over.
My beloved sister died suddenly last night.
When she left us, I heard music. Beautiful melodies from beyond this world
Melodies of her very soul, stuck between worlds
In despair looking for her brother.
I must find her spirit and help her to cross over.
I cannot see her, but I can hear her soul calling for me.

Dear Sister – A musical short story

Because of celebrating my birthday this weekend I decided to go for a small concept with not so much gameplay to implement. Instead I focused a lot on story telling, intensified with rich orchestral music.

While the story builds up, so does the music.

I think it turned out pretty well, but there may still be some issues. If you want to help me out I appreciate all your feedback, both about what went right and what I should improve. This will be great material for my postmortem.

My Compo Page

DearSister_screen1

Above all, I’m glad to finish on time and still have plenty of time for celebrating my birthday! In short, I had a lovely weekend!

My favorites so far

These guys really deserve some creds! Below are my favorites so far (no special order):

In Phase

This 2-player puzzle adventure has a really neat feeling with cute graphics and simple but lovely story-telling. The puzzles require some brains but the great learning curve gives a really smooth experience! Can also be played alone if you want to.

Blueprint Dude

An amazingly well-polished puzzler. Stunning graphics, and the audio has some great effects going well with the gameplay. The puzzle design and game mechanics are really clever.

Like AntiChamber

A really well made antichamber clone. I’m a great fan of anti chamber, and this entry really captured the fun in anti chamber with a new touch and fresh puzzles. A great challenge, but in case you get stuck check the comments for some hints.

Have you seen any other games that I really should try out? Leave a comment and I’ll try them right away!

Finally, if you have time, I would really appreciate to hear your feedback on my entry.

It is short and quite easy, but be prepared, it’s pretty emotional.

My entry: Dear Sister

Soundtrack released on Spotify / iTunes / MP3

Dear Sister albumart

Thanks everyone for your great comments on my game. I wanted to make a game with great emphasis on the music, and indeed the music plays a core role in Dear Sister, both for amplifying the emotional story, and as a key gameplay element. Based on all good feedback I decided to publish it on the web.

I have updated the entry page with links to spotify as well as a direct mp3 download. Though I would really recommend you to first experience the music in-game for a stronger reaction.

MiniTinyMicroLD

I got a small idea for miniLD, but I will only spend the next few hours, since I don’t have more time than that. I will try to focus on something really basic and do it really fast with unity and very simple 2D graphics.

October challenge – Here’s my plan!

For october challenge I’m expanding on my take on the classic pencil and paper race game, also known as vector rally or racetrack. It started as my miniLD entry made in only 7 hours, and I have now expanded it with local multiplayer.

This is currently on Kongregate and I’ve been doing some basic promotion in social media. More work on that and possibly more levels and functionality coming up within october.

I will release this soon for Android as well. I can not spend much time on this, but I aim to make it polished enough to sell at about 1 dollar in google play. I already have some small games on there, but I see this as a small and fun hobby project!

More coming soon!

Check out the game so far at my entry page if you wish.

Master of Music – First Day Video

To summarize my first day I now have game mechanics and physics mostly done. Tomorrow will be level design (as many as I can finish, but more focus on learning curve than sheer quantity), and GUI + some tweaking as necessary.

Here’s what I got now:

Oh and sorry about the horrible letterbox, quick-n-dirty movie maker conversion.

Music & Gameplay Demo

I decided to upload a video of the last level of my entry, in case anyone has trouble / is to lazy to actually try the game.

Warming up with phaser.io

I’m in again, and I’ll try to get up to speed with phaser.io enough to reach a level that I feel comfortable to switch out unity for a while.

Here’s my playground! Chiptune and sky gfx made before by me, while the rest is done this evening.
Definitely feeling positively surprised by phaser!

My tools:

Audio
Musagi
FL studio
Audacity
(Perhaps: Jammer)

Graphics
Pyxel
Paint.NET

Code/IDE:
Either Unity or Phaser.io
Sublime text

Misc.
Coffee to stay focused when I need
Fiancée to make sure I take some breaks

Good luck! May the weekend arrive soon enough…

Free ideas for you!

Someone should make a game where you play as the roof in tetris! Or you play as the time in mario, running out at the rate of one second per second to eventually reach the end and kill Mario.

On a side note, I’m totally not having a lack of good ideas right now!!

I like this take! Kinda like ‘Kill the plumber’ flash game.. Thinking for half an hour now, I am stuck in creating a new monster frame of mind..

A delayed “I made it” post

Although I had some other things to deal with this weekend such as my birthday, I finished the game, and I managed to get a decent amount of content in too.

My first time to make a puzzle game in LD, and it was a nice experience over all. Will share more thoughts about that later on :)
