Off to a bad start

Yeah, so I forgot LD16 started, and now my engine doesn’t work…

I really wish I could just copy some code, but oh well.

Explore the cave…

Still working on it, but basically you wander around explore a cave.

I made this in a few hours using Game Maker 7.

Explore the cave and try to find the ten different endings. Press enter to start again once you’ve found one.

Alright…

I’m all set. All I’m using is GM8+SFXR for speed reasons.

Definitely entering unless the theme is really bad.

GM8 4eva! Glad I’m not the only one using it.

After wasting my time…

…I came up with an okay looking game. Unfortunately I spent way too long getting the grass to randomly generate, so there’s no game play as yet.

Look! It has “Island” right there in the title!

It must fit the theme! …right?

Anyway, I’ll need to take a break soon, so until next time:

See? Island. Right there.

See? Island. Right there.

And… Elevators? On a giant floating island?

Yes, yes there are elevators on giant floating islands. Didnt you know?

Feedback appreciated.

I think the red and black is pretty sweet.

I like the pixel graphics. Since I’ve just started, I might do something similar…

Also, this looks vaguely like your LD16 entry so far. Just sayin’.

I like the visual theme so far. Very cool 😀

Laziness.

It shows up often in my games.

But I finally started working some more on my game and should finish it, but until then…

Thank you for that deafening round of indifference.

Not quite done.

I’ve finished making all the levels, made the sounds, plus a beginning and an end screen. So why am I not done? Well, currently the game takes about ten minutes (at most) to beat. Also, it’s kinda boring.

I’m not sure what to add, so here’s a demo.

Wow! You can even jump!

Try to escape the giant floating island! Go!

Please let me know what you think.

Well, I plummeted to my death. The use of enter for teh title screen only and Z for the information text only was odd, since it wasn’t mentioned ingame that those were the keys to use. “any key to start” and “any non arrow key” for the text would’ve made more sense to me.

I agree with Almost.

Your particle effects are nice.

They’re very simple, but add a ton of ambiance to your little world.

In response to some helpful people…

I’ve tweaked the graphics, made the game a bit harder, and added more detail to the backgrounds.

Now not looking quite as bad...

Unfortunately I’m going to be busy tomorrow, so I’ll have to try and roll out the finished version soon. Oh, and HERE’S A NEW, UPDATED, SOMEWHAT AMAZING DEMO.

Very nice atmosphere, cool ambience. Is there more than one way the game can end or did I actually just beat it?

Getting started

Not getting much of an gameplay idea from the theme thus far, so i just started mucking about with graphics/ some basic movement.

ld1

gif here.

Probably need to come up with a player sprite that fits a little better with the tiles.

Eh…

Not generates obstacles as well as walls, etc. Still needs more enemies and a little more refinement. Hopefully I’ll be able to finish things up early tomorrow.

ld3

The ancients had more technology than you’d think

Been making some nice progress on my game, but I won’t have much more time to work on it before the deadline. Things like autotiling will have to wait, leaving the game a little ugly. Still, I’ll hopefully get something playable out.

ld4

A little cluttered, but fairly readable.

ld5

For some reason GM doesn’t want to display text color correctly. Also, the spinners have decided to turn into wobblers for no apparent reason

All done?

Ancient Temploot is released and definitely used the theme well. Yeah…
