LD17

Hello, my name is Little Hacksaw

… and I’m just sticking my head up because I’m intending on doing LD this weekend… Seeing as how it starts and finishes at such friendly times (midday on a Saturday, finishing up on midday on a public-holiday-Monday). The tools of my trade will be:

Game code: Löve2D

Art: Inkscape, possibly the Gimp a bit…

Sound: hmmm… probably I’ll just record myself using Audacity

Wheeeeeeee! This should be fun…

LD19

Gonna cook and code (LD19)

Hey y’all, I’m gonna try and actually get a game in this time (I spent all of LD 17 coding up but never submitted).

As per last time:

Löve2d, the GIMP, Inkscape, Audacity.

I have a skeleton code I start from, wanna see it? Here it comes…

function love.load()
g={w=love.physics.newWorld(-1000,-1000,1000,1000)}
end

function love.draw()
end

function love.keypressed(k)
if k=='escape' then love.event.push('q')
elseif k=='f' then love.graphics.toggleFullscreen()
end
end

function love.update(dt)
g.w:update(dt)
end

I’m also hanging out with an LD Jammer and I got a bit excited about ensconcing myself at home all weekend so if I blog, it’s likely going to be about awesome food I cook… Going for an “off-topic” award maybe?

But for now, some sleep in preparation…

“Desk”shot…

These seem to be the thing to do — but I have nothing fancier than my camera (unfortunately in use during the shot, sorry), my lappy and my saxophone…
A Saxophone and a Lappy

Mint tea

Every time I go to a certain restaurant, the meal is begun with a glass of sweet mint tea. Seeing as how I have a ton of mint growing in my garden, and I need sugar and interesting consumables to keep me going for 48 hours, I thought I’d try and make it…. It’s not bad!

I’ve got…

A dude! And, for the first time in my game-making career, no world (i.e. no physics)

cool lookin’ dude you got there. And go KDE!

Dinner!

I cooked stirfry — first time i’ve tried to cook kang kong, having been introduced to it by my housemates… In more directly LD-related news, I recorded some sound track, just with my saxophone and my laptop’s internal mic. Still gotta stick it all together so that it loops smoothly. And now Bankai’s come over to do some mixing… with wine… hm. Uhoh?

Progress update (+ 2am baking)

My LD housemate made custard tarts (in the left of the picture), so there were a couple of egg whites left over… voila, my first ever try at meringues. I don’t hold high hopes, but I’m going to need the sugar hit even if they don’t turn out awesome quality… (I have to be up at 3:30 to turn off the oven, so that should hopefully keep me going too…)
In other news, I now have a complete game, i.e. it all works. There’s still a metric ton of art and bits and bobs to add on before it’s fun and looks good, but for now, here’s a screenshot…

How did the meringue turn out? I tried making it once when I had leftover egg whites, the outside was good, but the inside was mostly hollow with a marsh-mellowy consistency.

Goodnight!

I sleep now, more in the… um… later.

The stupid has definitely hit…

I slept from about 6amish-10amish, and i’ve had tea and custard tart and meringue (which didn’t work properly — just not dry enough, but sticky and chewy and yum nonetheless), but I’ve just spent about an hour fixing little bugs; 45 minutes of that ended up being because I’d forgotten to return a value from a function.

Yep, runnin on not-enough-sleep.

But my game has music now!

Thunder and chips

We had a thunderstorm w00000000t!
While it was going: baked potato chips.

This game is finally starting to approach the limits of my aesthetic ability

Those potatoes look well yummy :)

The final hurdle…

… porting to Not Linux.

I think it’s going to work on Mac OS (about to reboot and find out) but for reasons unknown, the startscreen worked in windows, but as soon as I clicked to play, the fan whirred up and soon enough my game was “Not Responding”….

Of course, my game should be playable by anyone who already has love2d installed — and I shall link soon, just as soon as I’m sure this works on Mac Os…

Submitt’d!

Fin-a-freakin’-ly. Took me at least 4 hours to get a version working for windows. Which involved taking the sound out, sorry windows users, but you can dl the soundtrack separately! Check it out here
