My Themes!

Wussup yall, I'm getting hype for LD48! Not sure if I'm gonna Jam or Compo, but here are my theme suggestions for now. Just whatever came to my mind at the moment.

themes.png

Nature vs Nurture; This could be tough, so maybe I'll change it. (Not like anyone would vote for this tho) My first thought would be some kind creature has a behavior, and you can try to tame it with love and care, or accept it's wild behavior. You may NEED some of those wild creatures for puzzle solving or keeping the environment in balance. I dunno.

Unconventional Weather; I really like this one. It could rain cats and dogs, or you need to survive acid rain, or fight through fog of war, or something even crazier.

Support the Real Hero; This could be a good one too. Easiest take would be a healer to keep their friends alive, but what about a shop keeper? Or someone who drives the hero where he needs to go? Or Gathering donations for Teachers or something like that? Or literally keeping the hero upright with shoring stilts, or building bridges for them to cross?

At any rate, I'd probably stir these up for a few hours before something good really comes to me.

Deeper & Deeper

Underground under the sea Thinking Into Sleep Into insanity Into subconsciousness Into the darkness Into the void In love NSFW Learning Pitch Colors In debt

Almost went TOO deep!

I spent a few hours starting an FPS...

Unity 2021-04-24 05-46-07-21.gif

Then I hit a wall and realized, I've never made a 3D game, or an FPS, and I probably wont finish.

So I pivoted to what I'm best at! 2D pixel art platformers! Unity 2021-04-24 05-50-00-71.gif

LETS GO!!!

Day 2 - Deeper and Deeper.... Sleep time...

Very productive day. Audio is about 80%. A few different mechanics. A bunch of levels.

I still wanna wrap a small story around this. Gonna sleep on it.

I could probably put this into the compo but I'd rather jam on the extra day.

24hrs to go!

Congratz to all the compo entries! Can't wait to see what yall cooked up!

I've had a lot of fun so far. My theme use is pretty straight forward, nothing special.

But I'm glad I'll have this game in my portfolio!

WebGL Audio "POP" (Unity3D)

My game got awesome responses (Thanks everyone!). People even think the music is good.

I cringe when the music "pops" in the webGL version. It happens at the song's loop point!

Anyone have any tips to smooth that out?

Tried a variety of import settings. DEEP Fade-in & Fade-outs at the ends of the audio clip, which helped but didn't totally clear it. (and kind of ruins the attack of the instruments)

It's ONLY in webGL. Windows and Editor is looping as expected.

How I Made My BEST Game In LESS Than 72 Hours!

Congratz everyone, we all have new games!!! Good luck with your ratings!

@leorid Asked if I could share how I approached the jam for my game! So I made a 23 Minute video for everyone

Below The Ocean - Chapter 2: The Cardinal's Grail

E5U4Lz-XwAYsVRU.jpg

Below The Ocean's first update is here! Return to the ocean's deepest depths in search of "The Cardinal's Grail"!

ITCH: https://ismaelrodriguez.itch.io/below-the-ocean

This update brings along a few major features

SAVE POINTS: Some air tanks will have a ribbon tied to them, these tanks are checkpoints AND save points, so you can suspend a "dive", and return to it later.

Chapter Select: Keep track of each expedition's progress.

Speedrun Mode: Once you complete a chapter, you'll have the option to start a new dive in Speedrun Mode; which makes all the diamonds look new. Perfect for those 100% diamond speedruns!

In the works:

Chapter 3: The Nobleman's Crest: I'm obviously working on some more levels for Chapter 3. The main challenge for each update is to think of new and different ways to use the tether mechanics for platforming AND puzzle-solving.

Unlockables: I'm planning on adding unlockable treasures, starting with player skins. Probably color palettes too. You'll be able to find some treasures hidden in the levels, as well as unlock them through challenges/achievements.

Fast Travel System: fast travel across save points. Good for treasure hunting!

On my mind:

EXTRA HARD LEVELS: One of my design objectives for Below the Ocean is to keep the level design easy enough for my wife Kelsey to complete each chapter; I usually round down any sharp corners she runs into. But this approach can also be extremely limiting, so I'm considering some more difficult areas as an additional side challenge. It's on my mind for now, because I'm going to focus on my "main quest" first, but eventually I want to make some REALLY REALLY hard levels. We'll see how that goes. I'm aiming for Chapter 3 release date of August 6th 2021, wish me luck!

Hopefully yall are enjoying Chapter 2 for now! Thanks for all your continued support!

Below The Ocean - Chapter 3: The Nobleman's Crest

28f0b4fd-6f13-4722-ba79-7a550d61bfa4.png

Below The Ocean's second update is here! Return to the ocean's deepest depths in search of "The Nobleman's Crest"!

It's been longer than expected since the last update. It turns out, trying to work through vacation, and weekend pool parties can kind of slow things down. At any rate, I managed to string together some new mechanics and rooms to run through for the new chapter.

Upside-Down Tank: Flipping gravity is an easy mechanic to implement into a 2D Platformer, and almost obligatory. I added a little extra functionality and allowed the player freely float, as well as build momentum capable of breaking weak walls.

Claw Machine: I had an idea for a type of automated grapple hook, this is what it turned into. The Claw Machines open up the range of each air-tank, and they also just look cool.

PLUS MORE: There's a few more new things too, but yall should just play the game to see them!

In the works:

Chapter 4: TBD (September 2021) I have a few new mechanics already built out, but saved them for Chapter 4.

Unlockables: I'm STILL planning on adding unlockable treasures, starting with player skins. Probably color palettes too. You'll be able to find some treasures hidden in the levels, as well as unlock them through challenges/achievements. This is already partially implemented, but requires me to build out some more supplemental systems (Achievements) before I can let yall have it.

Fast Travel System: fast travel across save points. Good for treasure hunting!

Steam Release: This is a major goal for me. I have most of the Steam page set up, but juggling EVERYTHING is not easy. Steam is also a somewhat intimidating platform. My plan is to release the FULL game on Steam.

On my mind:

Diamond Doors: I've had this idea for challenge areas that only unlock if you've found X amount of Diamonds. These areas would keep treasures hidden away, but also provide MORE challenges. I probably wont add these in until AFTER Chapter 4 is released.

I'll have a new little trailer on the way for Chapter 3, and after that we'll deep dive right into Chapter 4 and keep this party rocking!

As always, thanks for your continued support!

Below The Ocean, which placed 2nd Overall & 2nd in Fun for LD48 will be coming to Steam VERY SOON! It got relatively popular during the jam, and there was a little buzz and people asking for more, so I made more! I've been releasing each level incrementally, trying to match the mood of my jam entry with each iteration, while also trying to innovate. Check it out, let me know whatcha think!

OH, and I'll be participating in LD49!!! Here are my themes :)

Hazmat situation

It's been 10 hours. I'm not very far along, but I had a little idea I'm running with. A puzzle platformer where you mix chemicals to enhance your movement, but if you mix up something unstable you'll probably regret it. It looks a lot like my last LD entry, because I've pretty much set up the sprites the exact same way  , it's a totally different game so whatever lol

UNSTABLE JAM!

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/hazmat-magic thumbnail.png Unstable 2021-10-04 18-16-40-71.gif Unstable 2021-10-04 23-28-50-963.gif https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/hazmat-magic

A GOOD Thumbnail goes a LONG way!

One of my Ludum Dare "hacks" is to try and use a thumbnail that will attract "my" audience. So I try to show off a little pixel art which should bring in the folks who like pixel art right? It also hints at the type of genre, this looks like a retro platformer just from this thumbnail right? If you're looking for a 2D-Pixel-Art-Puzzle-Platformer, hopefully this grabs your attention. This thumbnail is also bright and eye grabbing... Maybe too bright? lol

I thinking that attracting the "right" players to your game should have a positive impact on your final score, since those folks are more likely to enjoy the style of game you're presenting and maybe give you more favorable scores!

Open your WebGL build folder (that folder you build your game to and then zip up and upload to Itch)

find the index.html file 2.png

Open the index.html file in a text editor like notepad or whatever you write code with

Find the footer section. You'll notice these few lines here are referencing the stuff that appear under your game's window. 3.png

I like to remove the lines with the logo and the title, leaving only the full-screen button 4.png

Refresh the page and it looks something like this 5.png
