Ludum Dare 51

First Ludum Dare

Hey, I'm a rather new game developer and I've decided to work on my first Ludum Dare Gamejam with my artist. We were hoping to show our work in development; we decided to make a concept that has both elements I'm familiar with (which I admit is rather limiting) and wouldn't risk missing the deadline. So far we are making good progress in my opinion with most elements of the game working as intended thus far.

Our game is about a slime that must reach the end of a maze, following the path perfectly whilst being observed by scientist. You have a time limit of 10 seconds to reach the end, failing to do so or falling off the path will result in immediate failure. The tiles will increase in both quantity and variety, though time will not. Thus far we have considered adding time bonuses when the levels are too long but I am unsure as to whether that will stray too far away from the theme or not.unknown[1].pngunknown[1].png

Game nearing completion

We've been working on our game for a good while now. We've added a few more types of tiles and have given many visual indicators to the player. All that we have left is sound, main menu and high score system. Sadly these three things I have never done in Godot before so they're going to be a rough experience implementing. Particularly scene transitioning, saving data and playing sound. unknown[1].png

Godot HTML5 not working

This is probably a desperate cry at this point though I have been vigorously trying to figure out why my game won't work with the HTML format. It is the appropriate size and despite this, the game will come up as error 404 upon trying to play it in the browser format. I've only got 6 minutes so it's unlikely I'll even get an answer before time runs out but after pulling my hair out for an hour trying to fix this, it's my only option. unknown[1].png

Let's see how far you can get.

Our first ever Ludum Dare game has been published! My first game to be publicly accessible too, so I hope you all enjoy. I'm eager to hear your feedback about the game's quality and entertainment value as well as your criticisms on how it can improve. Most importantly, I hope you enjoy the game from beginning to end. I encourage that you share your scores whilst you're at it.

Thank you for playing LabSlime!

We're very grateful for all those who gave us feedback, ratings and comments on our game, especially those who enjoyed the game. It helps us to keep mindful of future work that we develop. This gamejam is a great learning experience for us, and me in particular; being my first proper jam. It taught me a lot about the development cycle and how it feels to direct and finish a game firsthand- The gamejam has made me understand just how much more I need to learn as a game developer. There was a lot of stress near the end but ultimately, it turned out well and I like to believe that people overall appreciate the game, which made me feel rather proud for my first attempt at this with Vatx. As to express our gratitude to all who enjoyed our game so far:

We decided to make a patch to Lab Slime, which improves a lot of elements of the game based on the suggestions and criticisms from the players who commented on it. This patch is NOT to be used on the judgement of our game as it was not made within the Ludum Dare time limit. The patch is made to be enjoyed by anyone who liked the original release of our game and just wanted a few things changed about it.

You can find the patched version as "1.1" on the Itch.io link on our page. We hope this patch solves all problems you feel it may have suffered from and play it as something to enjoy casually beyond the gamejam.
