First LD and Internet is out

…. So.. Just perfect. I write to you via my phone. My first dare and it happens to be Hella stormy out and my Internet has been down  since yesterday. Thank God I work in IT and have a computer at work that held me over while I was at work today. Ah well.

Day’s over, the night is young, the theme has been announced, my beer is cold,  I’m ready.

ENGINE: Unity 5.3.0f4

PROGRAMMING: Visual Studio 2015

ART: Photoshop CS6 / Blender

AUDIO: I have no clue lol probably audacity since I have no Internet and that’s what’s installed.

Let’s get to work.

A thing has been done

Well, when the theme got announced there was a lot of brainstorming that mostly ended in ideas I didn’t feel comfortable doing in a short period of time. So seeing as this is my first LD and I am flying solo for this one, I decided to just go as simple as I could to test the waters and at least get started in participating in LD, something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time. Anyhow, I scrapped all other ideas, and came up with something very simple, that incorporates both themes.

BEHOLD THE PROGRAMMER ART!

Sped up by 5x to get the point across. I still have hours of work to do but at least the main mechanic is done, this is about 3 hours worth of work I believe (after distractions, failed brainstorming, and adulting [I’m so good at adulting]). Most of that time was spent just working on getting the classes as intuitive as I could so I could control rain drop characteristics (things like moisture amount min and max [each raindrop has a randomized moisture value], fall speed etc.) via the raindrop spawner in the inspector. Much more handy that way. So I guess what I’m saying is that the main mechanic was stupid simple to do, the rest of the time was just my OCD and wanting an efficient way to modify values xD.

So next on the list is to get the “shrivel” mechanic in, and then it’ll pretty much be ready for UI elements and final art. (If there is such a thing as final art when the programmer is the one making it).

Submitted!

So, I submitted my entry to my first LD! I ended up having to “finish” all of the programming at work which sucked because I was forced to be switching between working and programming.. But nonetheless, I swore I’d submit something and I did! Everything that could have gotten in the way during this LD has, so hopefully the next one will show me a little more mercy. Despite the setbacks, and having to leave out several game mechanics in order to meet the deadline, here it is, in all of it’s programmer art glory.

Little Big Plant

Here’s to the next LD!

LD36

I’ve never felt so IN!!

Definitely in! Haven’t had the time to do an LD since 34, and even that one I was only able to dedicate a few hours to it unfortunately. This time though, I’ve cleared my schedule!
