I Guess I’m In Too!

Hey Guys! This is my first LD and I’m really excited. I’m not sure what kind of game I’ll make, but if all goes according to plan, it should be good. I think to make it less complicated, I’ll use game maker for making the game and possibly for image editing. I also might try and use Blender for character models. I think for sounds, I’m going to use Audacity. I don’t think that I will be able to record it.

Happy Ludum Dare! And may the force be with you.

Here’s my expression right now.

My Idea

Here’s what I got. You control a demon fire warrior(angel) that wields an ax and your goal is to  destroy as much stuff  as possible. It will probably have a better plot later. I won’t be available for most of tomorrow though, so I might not get as much time to work as I hoped…

I think I’m out…

I’m sorry guys. Nothing is working out the way I planned. First, I had to work all of yesterday, and Now I overslept. I don’t think that I am far enough to turn what I have into an actual game. If I can get something done in the next couple of hours, I’ll post it, but at this point, it’s not looking very good. Maybe next time. Good luck everyone.

Don’t be that guy, Mr. M!

Kidnap The Princess complete!…sort of…

Well, I only ended up with about 3  hours to finish my game, so its not very good. Anyways, I did finish, so this is still a success! There are still a few obvious bugs, but for the most part, it works. I didn’t have time to animate the creatures that are attacking, but that’s okay. I learned a lot and had fun, so that is all that matters.

I’m in… Probably

I am planning on doing the compo this year, but my schedule might be pretty full. If I have the time, I’ll definitely go for it. I’ll probably use Gamemaker and Audactiy. Good luck to all!

Opinions?

I think that I have it far enough to show a playable demo. I still think that it’s a little too easy. Anyways, I could use some outside opinions. Here’s the demo:

You control a little ball and your goal is to destroy all of the red balloons, without destroying the green balloons. You control it using the down button to gain and lose speed and height. Read the instructions. The controls are a little difficult, but it gets easier as you get used to it.

Also, if you go to fast, you could lose and have to start over. Don’t fall out of the level.

I am still planning on adding a lot of levels and other stuff, but what do you guys think? Is it minimalist enough?

Mission Complete!

I finally finished my game. I am really pleased with the way that it turned out. The music’s pretty bad, but everything else is working pretty well. You  can check it out here:

It’s pretty good. You should check it out. Hope everyone else is doing well. Good Luck.

I’m In

This will be my third Ludum Dare.

Here are my tools:

Engine>>Unity 4;

(Also, I might use some of the default character controllers)

Modeling>>Blender;

IDE>>Javascript;

2d textures>> Paint or Paint.net;

Sound>>Audacity & my keyboard;

I’m really looking forward to this. Good luck everyone, and may the best game win!

Voice Acting?

I was thinking about the jam, and I was wondering, are voice actors aloud? Do they count as part of a team, and require a game to be in the jam instead of the compo? Just wondering. Thanks!

In my opinion, so long as they don’t contribute anything to the game except for voice and you give proper credit as just a sound source, it shouldn’t be considered collaboration. Just send them lines, they send you voice, nothing more.

What he says. The rules page has this to say about it: “Photos and recordings you make of people or things are acceptable content, just you must acquire them during the competition.”

Okay, thanks! I don’t know if I’m actually going to use voice acting. I was just curious. Good to know though.

Battle System

I decided to make the theme into a 10 second battle system. The player and the enemy each have 10 seconds to attack each other.  The damage is equal to the number of times that a button is pressed in 10 seconds. Here’s a demo of my battle-system so far. Use the left and right control buttons to play. (By the way, I know it’s still kind of buggy.)

No graphics yet. Just text.

This is just the basic battle system. I think I’ll fix it a bit tonight, and work on graphics and story tommorow.

Well Darn

I might be out of the compo. This morning, I had most of my mechanics working. But I’ve spent most of today trying to get rid of a game-breaking bug. I still can’t fix it. I might try and start over, but there’s a chance that I won’t finish. Oh well. Good luck everyone!

I might be in..

Can’t wait for this next Ludum Dare. I’ve been looking forward to it since the end of the last one. Only problem is, I have to work for almost all of next weekend. I want to compete, but I’m not sure if I’ll have the time. Maybe I’ll do the Jam, instead. We’ll see.
Tools:
Unity
Blender
MonoDevelop(Javascript)
GarageBand
Paint

Also I might use some of these scripts:

Even if I can’t compete next week, I did make a warm up game. I did a short remake of The Legend of Zelda for the NES. It’s not quite finished, but you can check it out here:

Happy Jamming!
