LD21 August 19–22, 2011

I’m in!

Frozyn here (hurr), I participated last time but dropped out due to…problems, but I intend to actually finish this time.

edit: Oh, also, I’m using Game Maker, for those who’re interested.

What theme is everyone hoping for?

Waiting, definitely. That would be awesome!

Me too!

Very excited to be part of my first real LD48, i do however have a very short work shift at the start of my second day but hopfully i will pull through.

Using Java with my own base libraries. 😀

Bet i don’t finish in time :(.

Hi there.

First time for everything

This would be the first time I actually enter this competition.

I’m not quite sure yet what I’ll be using to make the game, depends on the theme and ideas from that. My possible weapons of choise are Unity, Game Maker or Adventure Game Studio. I’m planning to join the competition, but as I am a designer and not an actual coder or graphic artist, I might end up joining the Jam with with my friends.

Sorry for the vague information, but it’s the best I can give at this moment. More solid info coming up after the compo has started.

Good luck everyone!

Hi and welcome to LD *_.*

I’m in!

Hey folks. I think I am going to do the jam this time around, not because I need the extra time, but because I want to work with an artist! Namely my buddy Sean, who is the newest addition to my company. I am going to do another iOS game, probably two player, probably competitive, because I want to continue from the game that I did for LD mini 28. I know that probably means that I will totally sink in the rankings on the site, but I have found it hard to excel there anyways, and I think it is better to do things that I can have on my phone to play with friends.

I will be using my blud framework, which is a lua based engine that uses openframeworks. It is extremely loosely based on flixel. I have been using it and building it up since LD19, and it is getting pretty solid now. I will probably also steal code from my past LD entries.

I will be using PureData for audio, and TexturePacker for building spritesheets. Maybe box2d if the game calls for it. I imagine that sean will be using flash and photoshop for graphics.

I.Am.In!

Definitely. My wife and child are out of town, so a very good premise to get something done. Unfortunately I couldn’t get my old webcam to work, which means no contribution to the keynote. Meh.

Tools I will use:

  • python with pygame
  • Gimp for the graphics
  • bfxr, if I come to implemeting some sound effects
  • musagi and/or inudge/audiotool and audacity for music, if there is still some spare time left

Really looking forward to my first real LD after my first MiniLD last month.

I’m in again, third time

I hope i have at least 24 Hours this time to participate. Will use my own framework again :-)

Ready for the fun! (aka “I’m in!”)

Here I am, entering my second Ludum Dare compo! Hopefully I’ll come up with something awesome enough for me to sell it ! (just joking, or rather dreaming) 😀

See you all next weekend!

The “I’m in!” video (geez, my phone has better video/sound quality than my webcam o_o):

Bye.

PS: I’ll be using C++ and wxWidgets or SFML… and also Gimp/Inkscape for graphics and LMMS for music (this time, I’ll do this when the game is ready ^^).

I am so ridiculously in.

So. After entering mini-LD 27 and netting myself a gold medal for ‘fun’, I think it’s about time I took on the ‘big boys’ in a main LD. I’ll be making my ‘I’m in’ video when I get home today, as well as squeezing in some gamejam practice.

For those who don’t know, I’m Zed. Hi. I make games in Multimedia Fusion 2, and I’m not ashamed to admit it. My graphics aren’t the prettiest, but I pour all of my creativity into the game. I’m primarily a writer, so expect something plot-driven, no matter what genre it is (I’d give a narrative to Tetris if I got the chance).

I’m Zed, and I’m in.

The Main-LDers are not the ‘big boys’ 😉

Some things I noticed!

1. We are… getting flooded by ‘Game Maker’ users. It’s interesting how almost every 4th post contains it. I don’t mind it, though, I use it myself :3

2. Newcomers. A lot of them. Like. A LOT! Seeing as this is my 4th main LD and my 5th LD overall, I feel different now. Not so.. new. 😀 (btw. Welcome to all of you new guys.)

And one little complain: I need a commenting meta-game, so I can ask on IRC about it and lose the meta-meta-meta-game again. 😉

That’s it.

Over and out!

Not Enough Kitteh

Scary image that would haunt your nightmares.

It seems that my chief problem with getting rank on my LD entries has been the distinct lack of kittens. Hope to rectify that this time around.

I’ll be using:

  • Unity 3D for the vroom vroom.
  • FL Studio 10 for the boom boom.
  • Photoshop/Illustrator CS5 for the pixel pushing.
  • 3D Studio Max for the polygons and shadows.
  • pixelplacement‘s iTween for the bits that move.
  • Still standing!

I really should assemble a basic code library but it’s more stressful fun to do it all from scratch.

Best of luck to everyone, let’s make some killer games!

Dependant on the weather…

I may or may not be in. It all depends on the weather.

I’m on Holiday in Scotland, which means if the weather’s nice, I’ll be out walking and stuff, but if it’s raining, I’ll be in.

We’ll see…

I find your lack of commitment… disturbing.

“If it’s raining” in Scotland almost counts as committed. :)

I’m (Finally) In!

It’s been a whole year?! The last time I was able to do this was way back at LD18. I missed the last two due to working overtime to get milestone builds out. Ah, game development.

I’m very much looking forward to cranking something out for LD21, and this will be my third Ludum Dare. I’ll be using Unity, almost certainly working in 2D (but using modo for 3D if necessary), and any audio needs will probably happen in Reason+Record.

My last entry, Fail-Deadly, was a bit subversive, and in the year since I’ve been thinking a lot about that, so I’m probably going to take a similar angle for LD21. That could mean subverting a genre (as Fail-Deadly with RTS) or maybe tapping into the antithesis of the theme.

Also, this is my first actual post on the site: I’ve participated in Ludum Dare twice before, but never posted or journaled or liveblogged or whatever. I pretty much just kept my head down and quietly made my game. It’s because I’m antisocial, you see. But maybe I’ll try and break that habit this go-around.

it isn’t that hard to take some food pictures at least. you can do it up.

I’m in for LD 21!

This will be my third LD. In my first one, I only placed in Best Timelapse. In my second…I didn’t finish. I expect to do much better this time.

5th time lucky

This will be my 5th main LD, so far I’d put my record at one success, one nice try, one learning process and one failure.

As usual I’ll probably be using C++ with HGE, PSP7 for programmer art, and Milkytracker for music if I find myself with the time and inspiration for it.

If possible

Traveling a good portion of the compo, but I still want to try.  Hope I can actually think of an idea, but some of the ones coming up in the poll seem pretty nice (I would love to see what would come out of psychosis and 4d).

Tools:

  • StencylWorks – someday I’ll man up and actually program everything, but for now, built-in level design systems hold far too much allure
  • Graphicsgale – delicious pixels
  • Bfxr/Sfxr – delicious bleeps

No time/skill for musics

This is a really stupid question but…

do you have to create a time lapse or is it optional?

Totally, 100% optional.

You absolutely and totally have no choice except to choose for yourself.

I’m in!

This time I’ll be gone for most of Saturday, but there still should be enough time to make something.

My tools:

  • programming: either haXe (with my own code base), AS3 (with Flixel) or perhaps Monkey
  • graphics: Tile Studio, PhotoImpact, Inkscape, project dogwaffle, Photoshop Elements, GIMP (and perhaps my Random Art Evolver?)
  • sound editing: Nero Wave Studio, bladeenc, Audacity
  • music: MilkyTracker, NoteWorthy Composer
  • instruments: electric piano (Yamaha Clavinova), cello, double bass, guitar
  • recording sound samples:  ZOOM H2 audio recorder
  • time lapse video: ETL and Virtualdub
  • time logging: ManicTime
  • chat: FireFox with ChatZilla

In if I can be.

Unless I’ve forgotten something important, I’ll have a go at a game next weekend. Almost undoubtedly will be making it in/with Flash, Flixel, FlashDevelop, fear, fallacious design principles, fleeting moments of false inspiration, and a foggy understanding of what is fun. (Also Paint.NET for my barely-functional graphics, Bfxr for sound if I remember to do that this time, and Jaffa Cakes for fuel.)

Or maybe I’ll end up making a game with Java and its trendy (read: strange-looking) UI library that I really should be familiar with, if the game doesn’t need graphics, but I find that unlikely.

[throws champagne glass]

What’s happening folks?  I have been out of the Ludum Proper since LD15, for which I submitted a game where you exploded bikini babes with spikes and hammers and things.  I was previously working all day and most nights making the very best football videogames you could possibly ever want (or from the perspective of the indie-game scene, I had a “day job” where I worked for some folks who you probably don’t like very much).  But a few months ago, some of my peers decided to try a startup, and I wanted in, and so I went.  When I left EA, I made two postcards, one of them an homage to the game that tipped me over the edge:

And one a motivational speech inspired by my friend Tim Rogers’ Bulletstorm review on Action Button Dot Net: doitmotherfucker.com

Since leaving EA I have been working on small games, and it has been glorious.  I compose music, I make art, I write dialogue, I help with marketing, and as always I write some white hot liquid code; it’s been wonderful.  And now I work somewhere that allows me to participate in things like Ludum Dare without a hundred thousand layers of red tape blocking the way.

I’ll be building something this time, despite having a new baby in the house!  My toolbox (which has several ORs depending on theme):

  • art: photoshop OR tilestudio OR graphics gale
  • music: garage band or milky tracker
  • web: flashdevelop + flixel OR pushbuttonengine
  • mobile: corona + lime

Looking forward to it!

are you going to do a mobile version as well?
15. Aug 2011 · 18:57 UTC
My plan is definitely to port to mobile, just not sure if it will be in before the competition deadline (not that this matters much anyway, as mobile games are almost impossible for other people to play before they’re up). I’ve got a decent process down for porting flixel / PBE stuff to Corona (which works on iOS / android) so it should be less than 48 additional hours to finish a hot port once I throw down any finishing touches. And thanks!

I’m in!!!

I\’m IN!!!

I’m ZeroLRS and I am VERY new to programming.

For my game I will either be using java, or flashpunk.
