Ludum Dare 46 April 17–20, 2020

Some quick games in the final hour?

Try solving puzzles by tossing the thing you need to keep alive in Save The President! stp.png

Or some one button baseball action in Keep the Dream Alive! ktda.png

Keep a legally distinct green goomba from loosing a solo game of Smash Bros in Keep On! ko.png

The Keep! It's alive! So QWOP through a battlefield in the pun that is Keep, Calm!. kc.png

Or just take a second to breathe, and enjoy a night by the fire in BÅL. b.png

Vestige Post-Jam Update #6

Gave the attacks weight so it feels good when you swing. Also added the first round of artwork to the platform that gives it more life, since it is, well, alive. As always, none of these changes will be added to the LD version. Links will be provided to the updated version in the near future! Let us know your thoughts! :smile_cat: crystals.gif

Looking for a last minute game to rate? Try Displacement.

Hey folks,

There's less than an hour left for rating, so if you're looking for something to check out I'd really like to hear what you think about my game Displacement. It's a block pushing and pulling puzzle game. When you push and pull all blocks aligned with the player will move, so you really have to think ahead in spots. If you rate+comment early enough, I'll try to give your game a shot before this is all over with.

Play Displacement: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/displacement

Good Luck with your ratings!

Play 'Wonder' here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/wonder

This is my first post about my game. Better late than never, right?

Wonder is basically a chill game kinda like Line Rider focused on evoking positive feelings. It doesn't take long to play, there are ~10-ish levels. Even if you don't have time to rate I really appreciate any plays of the game! :)

This was a fun jam!

With only 17 minutes to go, I figured I wanted to write something down, as a sort of final message till the next jam, and so here's that final message: This was a fun game jam, I really enjoyed it, the theme was okay but there were some great games that came out of it, and overall I really enjoyed it, both making my game and playing other people's games, and I'm glad I participated. I hope your LD experience was great as well, and I hope I'll see you all in the Ludum Dare 47 !

Anyone up for a match in online car demolition arena? :)

We have last 10 minutes of the jam remaining, so let's use this opportunity to join a match together :)

DemolitionX Jam is a server-sided multiplayer Unity game (also capable of P2P servers) made in Mirror framework. We aren't only looking for players; we're also looking for other Unity developers who are interested in multiplayer, so feel free to join us on Discord < https://discord.gg/m2E7jdg > if there's any chance you'd like to work on a larger project together (in an open-source fashion) for the purpose of some knowledge transfer :)

Playing + Rating is Done!

As of this writing, it has been a few seconds since playing + rating was shut down. I must say, it has been great participating in this wonderful game jam and community and getting 39.99999 ratings on my first Ludum Dare game! Here's to great future jams!

Just remember...

The most important rating of your game is your own :) I think we all already know whether we did a good job or not. Still excited for results, though!

We're approaching the end of this Ludum Dare!

If you haven't played my compo entry, Defend the Loot, I would really appriciate it if you could give it a rating. In the game you have to defend the loot chest as waves of enemies attack you. Before each wave you get a minute to build up your base. There are 10 levels, getting to the end is not easy!

You can find the game here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/defend-the-loot

Thanks!

Thank you all, this is my first Ludum Dare and I got almost to 50 ratings! It's not that much but I'm really happy with that. I'm also very proud of my game.

You can check my game here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/guns-n-violets

We almost got 40 ratings, thank you!! If you haven't played it yet, what are you waiting for?

The Drown - Major Post Jam update!

header.png

First of all, thank you to everyone who played, rated and commented on our entry! We got a lot of valuable feedback and learned a lot, as always

While waiting for the results we have been hard at work to make a post jam update, and it is finally ready. It includes a lot of the features that did not make it into the jam version due to time constraints, but also a lot of changes that we got suggested from the Ludum Dare community. Below is a (pretty massive) change log.

CHANGE LOG The Drown (Post Jam update 1) * Game modes * Story mode (What play game used to be). * Infinite mode (never ending waves).

  • Player
    • Able to move and shoot
    • Stops when shooting shotgun
    • Stops when shooting sniper
    • Shooting animation slowed down by 20%
    • Fixed a bug causing the first frame of attack animation to be displayed for only 10% of the intended time.
    • Now has the ability to sprint, this makes the player move faster at the expense of no longer being able to shoot.

  • Weapons
    • Shotgun
    • Applies knock-back
    • Fewer, more concentrated shots
    • Increased screen shake amount
    • Sniper
    • "Aiming down sight", your camera is zoomed out.
    • "Zoom"- effect when shooting.
    • Bullet starts at 0 speed, then shoots forward.
    • Increased screen shake amount.
    • AR & SMG
    • Decreased the screen shake amount.

  • Buildings
    • Interactable during waves, not just between them.
    • Now have a build duration, instead of being instantly created.
    • Medibay is now cooldown based (60 seconds) instead of 1 time per wave.
    • Repair-table is now cooldown based (100 seconds) instead of 1 time per wave.
    • Gatlin turret HP increased to 20 (from 15).
    • Shotgun turret HP increased to 20 (from 15).

  • Build Mode
    • You can move while having "build" targeting.
    • Change restricted build area of all buildings from 2 to 1 tile.
    • After building, you resume game.
    • Left clicking while build-mode is active cancels the build.
    • You can build during a wave, not just in-between them.

  • Controls
    • "Interact" moved to RMB (from LMB).
    • Hold [L-Shift] / [Spacebar] to sprint.

  • NPC
    • Made the draw order calculation for NPC to be more exact.

  • Enemies
    • Melee enemy attack animation is now better synced.
    • Added a new enemy: A final boss.

  • Waves
    • The enemy-types that can be spawned by other enemies, can no longer spawn on their own.
    • The two base enemies (standard melee and range) will now spawn more frequently. They each have a 1/3 chance to spawn (up from 1/7).
    • The three stronger enemies are now less likely to spawn. They each have a 1/9 chance to spawn (down from 1/7).
    • The final wave spawns the new boss unit.
    • Fewer enemies in the first wave, but the enemy increase between each wave is higher.

  • Effects
    • Barrel smoke effect after shooting with sniper.
    • Bullet trail for all other weapons.
    • When buildings are destroyed they break into pieces.
    • Enemy death particles changed to fade out (instead of just disappearing instantly).
    • Using the medibay now tints the player green for a moment to indicate they where healed.
    • Using the repair-table now tints all buildings green for a moment to indicate they where repaired.
    • Buildings now have an animation when they are constructed.
    • Buildings now have an animation when they are destroyed.

The update is now available to play at: https://windmillgames.itch.io/the-drown

(And if you actually read all of this — thank you! )

Thank you for jamming!

It was a wild ride - I played well over 200 games and left feedback on each and every one. Never have I expressed so many opinions in such a short span of time

Our game got 176 ratings and so many great comments with feedback. I really can't thank you all enough for those! Thank you for all the great games I played, and for not-so-great ones as well  It was a learning experience for me and a great community experience as well.

See you next jam!

Thanks to all of you we decided to develop our game into a full one. We already have so many ideas and plans on where to go with it! If you feel interested, you can follow our exploits at itch.io https://limboofwonders.itch.io/the-last-guardian-full-game or on our newly-created twitter http://twitter.com/limboofwonders.

Like&Subscribe takes flight!

Promoo.gif

Hello, today ended Ludum Dare 46 at which we presented our new original project — Like&Subscribe.

First of all, we want to thank everyone who played, reviewed, commented and just told their friends about the game. We were very happy to see such a warm welcome.

By the way, a couple of days ago we updated the prototype, adding the ability to comment on monsters, and made a number of other fixes.

You can download the updated version of the young streamer Doppel bizarre adventures here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/likesubscribe

As promised earlier, we’re not stopping here and already working on the full game. But what awaits players in the full version? Let’s find out!

2.png

In the comment sections many praised the atmosphere and the opportunity to examine almost every item in the game. If you are among them, then the full game won’t disappoint you for sure. It will get a lot more locations, interactive items, chat interaction, monsters, puzzles and other attributes of adventure horrors.

LDWalkie.gif

We try to make a game that is interesting to replay several times and has something new to offer every playthrough. That’s why there’ll be different endings, including several secret ones. By the way, we won’t drop any hints on how to find them, rely only on yourself and the power of the Internet. :sunglasses:

Have a cool idea for our game? Be sure to write it in the comment section. We read all of them. Who knows, maybe your idea will be the main feature of Like&Subscribe!

"Plans are cool, but how can we follow the development?", you ask? Well, we are the Flying Whale team and you can find us by following the links below:

Twitter: https://twitter.com/flyingwhale20

VK: https://vk.com/flyingwhale_games

Youtube with lofi radio: Maybe in the future

We promise to share the project news regularly, including the date of the full game release. Thank you again for your support and see you all very soon! Don't forget to like & subscribe!

Some last minute ratings?

I'm only 1 rating away from 60, so I'd really appriciate it if you could try out my game!

You can find it here https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/defend-the-loot

Also, if you want you can leave a link to your game in the comments and I'll give it some last minute ratings and feedback.

Thanks!

So We Can Still Rate?

I think we can still rate games! Is this a bug? 🤔

So maybe I should go rate some more games! (and also get some more rates 😅)

Wanna rate a game last minute??

You looking for games to play last minute? Well why don't you try out this awesome game!!! It's called Movin and Keepin Alive. Here is a link. https://gamejolt.com/games/movinandkeepin_alive/488243. It is for all platforms. This is a game where you avoid enemies and obstacles and get to end. Oh yeah, almost forgot to tell you that there is a special mechanic. Check out the game if you want the story. Also when playing a level you can use the escape key to exit the level.

The Genesis Loop

squarelogo.png

This was a crazy LD, we made a game that features it's own little scripting language so anyone can create their own adventure using simple JSON files and logic. I'm really considering making another game in this engine using the scripting engine for an upcoming LD, since this one, like so many before it, took such a lot of long hours to finish. I clocked in 46,4 hours of work on it during the 72 hour period.

Please try it out if you haven't already, and it would be awesome if you tried out making your own story in it :)

Frankly, I didn't anticipate so many ratings. And I'm sorry that I didn't leave much feedback on your games. However, you inspired me to create a full game out of this submission. Thank you!

Results for Ludum Dare 46

Wow! What an incredible event. Ludum Dare 46 has ended.

The results for each category can be found here:

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/results

You can check your game page for your individual results (via the My Game link up top).

Congratulations everyone! You made a game!

An unprecedented event

You might not know this, but we actually generate statistics for our events.

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/stats

I pushed some changes to the prioritization algorithm that made giving feedback significantly more valuable than giving ratings. We still want you to give ratings, but with so many people taking part (over 13000 on over 10000 teams), so few people will get brag-worthy ratings. Instead, switching the focus to feedback means everybody that participates in the process hopefully gets something more out of it.

Anyway, not only did we see a record number of submissions, but we saw a record number of participants get 20+ ratings on their game. Our prior best was about 62%, but this time around we did 70%!

It does look like the changes helped, but we will have to run a few more events to see if that's true. It's that, or maybe folks just had more free time.

Ludum Dare 47: Coming October 2nd-5th, 2020

Ready for more Ludum Dare? We do 'em every 6 months! Next event is scheduled for October 2nd-5th weekend. Also FYI October events start 3 hours earlier, so our friends in and around Europe don't have to stay up until gawd-awful hours just to get the theme announcement.

Be sure to check-in during September for Theme Selection (suggestions and voting). We'll probably open signups a bit earlier than that, but for the moment we're going to let things breathe, let us focus on the results for a while.

Stay Informed!

Wrap Up

I've been forcing myself to do YouTube videos this year, and I'm planning to do a wrap-up VLOG in the next couple days. I'm usually bad about promoting myself, and I'm told I need to do it more. So if you're interested in hearing Mike the Ludum Dare guy ramble about life and running this crazy record setting event, subscribe and stay tuned for that (aiming for early next week):

https://youtube.com/MikeKasprzak

(I'm also starting a business to hopefully create more time for me and my projects, so feel free to stay subscribed to hear more about that)

I also always neglect to mention that I have a PayPal and a Patreon you can contribute to. This is never required, so don't feel obligated to contribute unless you want to.

That's it for me. See you in October!

2 bugs in Untitled Phoenix Game

After the deadline of the Ludum Dare jam, we started to work on some extra levels, and some bugfixes, here you can see some of the funniest bugs that we had. The new version can now be played since the ratings are in. you can play the game here. https://cptfinn.itch.io/untitled-phoenix-game

No jumping on moving platforms

Can't jump.gif Few hours before deadline, we realized that on a few platforms, our little phoenix couldn't jump. This was a fairly by problem since, a lot of our levels were build using moving platforms, we ended up having to remove all moving platforms that weren't important, to make sure that any player could finish the game. The bug came from us having written our own simple platformer physics for the player and the platforms, and that the call order for the platform and player messing up, and making the player think that it was still on the ground after jumping.

Flying with egg (That's not a bug that's a feature)

flying with egg.gif We realized during the jam that if we threw the egg, then we could grab it in air, while the phoenix would start using the walking animation, we didn't remove this, because we thought it was funny and actually liked the gameplay that came from it. Our little friend now has an animation for flying with the egg, and in the new levels we have experimented more with this.

The future

We have found it very interesting, to work on the game and plan to keep experimenting with the mechanics. If you want to see where the game goes then you can follow us on twitter or itc.io

Really happy with the results

Could've probably scored higher in the fun category if the gameplay was a little more balanced, but all in all really happy with the results. Thanks to everyone that played and rated my game! Until next Ludum Dare, cheers! Annotation 2020-05-13 012817.png

My TLDR Postmortem

Made a good game, but played too safe. Next time will try something more ambitious.

Although I placed really well and I thank everyone who rated my game, I think it came out pretty boring.

As per usual.

Also, played tons of great games!

Nice!

Yep! It can look like small results, but I was hoping to be in the first 500 places overall. So I guess I made it! That was my very first compo entry and I'm really glad about what I could come up with and how well it was received! Thank you very much to you all!

Hope I'll do even better next time!

You can still play my game at: https://sticmac.itch.io/the-heart-pieces

Happy with my results!

My best rank was 1712, and as this is my first jam, I'm happy with this result. I have learned loads from all your amazing feedback. Thanks you so much, and I hope to see you all in the next jam!

Goal Reached!

If you've been reading my recent blog posts, you know that my goal was to end up with a score above 100th in the humor category. Well, I achieved this, and I couldn't be happier! Screenshot 2020-05-12 at 4.45.16 PM.png Thanks to everyone who played and rated my game, and those who will play it! Here's to a great Ludum Dare 47!

Can't believe it!!!

Just want to say a big thank you to everyone who played my game and I couldn't sleep because all I wanted to know was how I had done!! I was hoping to be in the top 1000 for the jam category but couldn't believe where I ended up. Thank you all so much it has gave me so much more confidence to undertake a full project which I never had the confidence to do before. So I really want to thank everyone!! I also want to say well done to everyone who entered and I am surprised at how much people could do and astounded by the amount of talent out there!!

Thank you

It was my first time participating in Ludum Dare and it was very useful for me. I'd like to thank everyone involved for the experience I gained! Thank you all! And congratulations with your achievements!

Interesting results this time around

So I was initially somewhat bummed by my results when I first saw them.

LD46 Results.png

While I certainly could have placed lower, I wouldn't necessarily call my final placements mindblowing. I was more than a few places lower than my last entry, which was itself a few steps down from my entry before that. In fact, my placements were around the same as my first Ludum Dare's results. So am I getting worse at this? I thought I did a pretty good job this time around...

That's what I thought before I compared my raw scores instead of my relative placements:

LD46 Scores.png

So, statistically, this has been one of my best Ludum Dares thus far! But if my scores are so high, why was my placement so low? Well, one look at the LD historical data and we see:

LD participants.png

This was the most popular Ludum Dare by a significant margin! So I'm not getting worse, there were just so many more fantastic games this time around!

Congratulations to everyone on their fabulous entries, and I can't wait to do this all again in October!

Can we have a clearer distinction between Jam and Compo next time?

Congrats to Daniel, it was well deserved #1. His game was better than any Jam game in this event, so the issue below wasn't really an issue for him.

On the Wordpress website, all categories of Jam entries were suffixed with (Jam). Why can't we have something similar on the new site? Why does it ultimately come down to a tiny string in the corner?

2020-05-13 01em54/em05-That Time I Crossed A Barren Desert To Protect&Care The World From Terrible Code.png

I know the votes are pointless, but I feel like a lot of people don't make a distinction or just straight up don't know what Compo is (I encountered a few). This is mildly important because we consciously or unconsciously compare games to other games, and the two events are inherently incomparable.

Thank you very much for this first game jam!

Thank you very much for this first game jam! I really enjoyed participating and I did a great job. The results are very good (540th of this edition) and it makes me want to come back next time to do even better. Thank you all for this wonderful experience!

If you still haven't tried my game, it's still available! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/feed-the-panda

Not what I was expecting :D

result.png

I usually suck at innovation and I made another platformer this time so I expected it to be my worst category again but here we are! I can actually see why theme was my weakest link, I didn't have a theme fitting idea from the beginning and never really tried to put the theme in that much.

Also... 8th overall? Damn. Did definitely not expect that. Thank you all so much!

See you next time, take care :D

Pretty hapy with the results!

This was our first LD jam, and this are our results! I'm happy we are in the top 1000 hehe.

ldresults.png

Lucky 7s!

The results are here!

I am not going to write a big post here, as I already wrote a twitter thread about this here: https://twitter.com/Sheinxy/status/1260358536044908547?s=20

Anyways!

Love!

See you all in October!

This was my second Ludum Dare and it's been fun! Here's how I did: Screenshot (52).png I think that's pretty good considering how many people participated this time. I'll definitely be back for Ludum Dare 47! Also, if you want you can check out my submission here https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/defend-the-loot

Hive Preserver ranked #50 overall

Hive Preserver ranked #50 overall, which actually makes this our worst ranked Ludum Dare game so far, but we still really love it!

gif_hive.gif

In fact, we started making this our "quarantine game" and have been cleaning up the project. Right now we are going a little more in a stealth gameplay direction, but we are still experimenting. We started by developing a better alien locomotion controller that can crawl on walls and ceilings:

This is my first ever general top 100 and if that wasn't enough it's a 8th place in fun. I'm drawn in tears of joy...

Congratulations to all participants !

On results

tl;dr: going the Mumen Rider route

So let me begin this by saying that my results are prettty bad ratings.png

Also, unlike many people here, this is certainly not my first Ludum Dare.

Now, let's do a proper post-mortem

As a reminder, this is my game: Adrestia: Sublime Balance

sample.png

On effort

I tried really, really hard to make a game this time around. Even for post-jam updates, I got multiplayer working and even some tests!

tests.png

The point of this part is that I didn't sleep much while I was making the game. And getting everything to work took a lot of time. Seriously. So I will not excuse myself by saying that I could have tried harder. I gave it my best

On feedback

The fact of the matter is that my 'game' is - barely playable - unfinished

A streamer was kind enough to play my game and immediately pointed out something to me: a mechanic without anything to support it is not a game. Building cool systems that nobody gets to play do not make for an interesting game.

Balance, Fun, and other elements are far more important when making a game. It is why some of the best entries for this jam use a limited set of mechanics and have a good balanced game. On the comments for my game, and for the previous games that I made, there is this sentiment that I have wanted to avoid, but I must make explicit:

Creating cool things because they are cool to program and to think about means nothing if the player cannot have a good experience in the end.

I am a very stubborn person, but I write this for the future me: limit your scope. Make a playable game.

And finally, be like Mumen Rider (character from One Punch Man).

Am I the best game maker out there? Nop. Will I continue trying? Hell yeah.

top 1000th next time for sure!!! :D

Whoa I did it!

Opera Momentaufnahmeem2020-05-13/em023226_ldjam.com.png

I really didn't expect that great of a result! It's only my first gamejam after all!

Nah, jokes aside. Of course it hurt at first, but I think I can deal with it. I've gotten tremendous amounts of feedback that really helped me grasp what this "thing" of mine wants to be and where it might need some bit of aid, and honestly, the average rating really does mirror the problems and praise brought up to me.

I think tiriplici has a future. There's a lot to be done, but I can make it a fun experience, I may just need a bit more time, seeing how I'm only in the whole gamedev thing since this year, really.

But tiriplicis aside, the whole experience was wonderful! I remember being very bitter and unbelievably disappointed in myself for delivering the game in such an unfinished, really rough and ugly state, but people came by and praised me, showed me the potential of my game, pointed towards roadblocks, and I was so grateful for it that I started feedback sprees, trying to reproduce the positivity I was embraced with! (that often meant a lot of ":D"s and "<3"s. Mea culpa if I did that to you and you find that cringe. Oh also, I hope I didn't annoy you with my idea of "humour" or pretentious writing style D:)

Really loved the experience, and if I have something to regret it would be that I didn't find the time to play aall of the games.

Thank you all so much for dreaming, not just dreaming but creating!

I will come back in October and show you what I learned, be warned! :D

GGWP,

PostJam Version is up on itch.io! :D

Thank you so much to the 237 people who rated our spooky dog game!

Lamps Thumbnail.png

PostJam thoughts and fixes:

Story:

Some people found the mysterious nature of Lamps to be right up their alley, but many people wished for a little more narrative. Why is the dog trapped in an endless lamp shop? The new version includes mysterious hints as to the nature of the world, and how this poor sweet pupper ended up roaming its endless halls.

NewDialogueSystem_Sml.gif

Major Fixes

To help make the experience more enjoyable, we've added a spooky fail state if your light runs out of power... This will solve the problem many people had of getting stuck in the dark and having to quit the game.

chairman.gif

Final Thoughts

Final Ratings.png Obviously we wish we had scored a little higher on Graphics, but we're very proud to have gotten 35th in Mood! What really surprised us was how low we scored in Theme. I suppose many people didn't understand the light mechanic, which led them to believe that there was no mechanic, and therefore the notion of Keep the Light Alive didn't resonate.

We had designed this game to be eerie, opaque and haunting, we absolutely achieved that, I think! With a few tweaks, however, it would have been a lot more accessible.

Hopefully, this Post-Jam version makes the whole thing more approachable for many people who were confused the first time.

Results.PNG

Thank you to everyone who played my game!

puush-linux+(2020-05-12+at+08.54.19).png

Out of 1383 compo entries, Ninja and Mouse placed 148th! Not to mention it placed 17th(!!!) in the Fun category!

I'm so thrilled and inspired by all the feedback the game's gotten. Thank you so much! :D

Looks like the Ludum Dare algorithm failed again! ❌❌❌

The good part:

So first of all this are my results...I am not here to complain about them! My Game that so so many of you guys played over the last weeks scored at the 310th position! Thanks to every single one of you and for huuuuuuge amount of feedback in the comment section...Haven't seen something like that before!💙

Screenshot_6.png

The very sad part:

I was just scrolling through the "BEST" games in each category and for my surprise I there were only 1 or 2 I have seen before! For the whole rest I thought I was looking at some other game jam from last year!🤣

To the point..most games that placed excellent, were so close to not even being ranked because of low ratings (just above 20 in some cases)! If I remember right the concept of LD is to play + rate other games in order to help other developers and in order to get that "feedback karma". The algorithm may has forgotten to take this into consideration!!! The top games not only have the lowest amount of feedback but they didn't even care about rating others or leaving a feedback in the comments!😤 That's a shame or the rest of the community!!!

What I have learned from this experience? 🤔

I think I finally figured out how to rank high..follow the steps:

1) Create a little something

2) Upload and forget about it

3) As you don't think about LD, hope that almost no one discovers your game

4) Hope to have just over 20 ratings but please don't take your time to rate or like others

5) In case this 20 ratings are over 3,5 stars you did it!

6) Set a reminder for when the game jam is over to check your results (no need to log in for 2 weeks)

7) Enjoy and be surprised about your rank

THE END

A lot of changes need to be done beore the next LD and hopefully this unfair ranking system will be fixed very very soon!

**Sry if you feel triggered or offended by this post! I have no intension to talk about any specific game but my point is about numbers and results!✌

Incredibly Grateful

Results.png

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/sparkys-joy

This was our team's first jam ever, and these results blew our expectations away! Huge thank you to everyone who played our game, and to everyone who made a game that we got to play- The huge volume of positive feedback and constructive criticism that I saw on our page and many others has been the highlight of quarantine

I'm really excited to keep making games, and I can't wait for October!

LD46 results and Post Jam derivative work (a bit of dirty self-promotional post)

results.jpg

Not bad at all ahah

More seriously, I had fun during this LD46, having short time to do everything to make something, rushing, neglecting a lot ahah. Of course my entry is... yes... an entry, but it is.

I did not test enough of your games during the feedback phase and I am sorry, but this game jam boosted my motivation and I started directly after end of jam a derivative work of my entry with the aim of understanding mutliplayer implementation in construct 2 (basics at least).

Thanks to everyone who gave feedback on my LD46 "game", some were very relevant and encouraging to continue and go, well, somewhere with this project.

You can find it as second HTML5 link on my LD46 entry page, it's called OUCH! and It's a 1vs1 online blowpipe fighting. https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/take-care-of-health-care

Thank you.

Keep It Alive!

I really had my problems getting something out of that theme (after all, it applies to basically every game with a "death" lose condition plus a lot more things), but in the end it was fun, a great learning experience and I'm fine with how my game turned out. Thanks again for the feedback everyone, I'll remember it next LD. :)

But that's not why I'm writing this: The overall #1 games of both the compo and the jam are named "keep it alive" and I (for some reason) find it ridiculously cute. Like the theme named it's first-born children after itself. The results for LD46 will certainly look fun on Wikipedia. :D

Not bad for the first complete game

Github: https://github.com/rongcuid/ld46-keep-it-alive

Really good result for my first LD46, and first game with full gamedev stack finished. Though bare-bones, it does include 3D modelling, SFX, BGM, animations, a cut scene, instructions, and endgame conditions.

I think it really helped when I knew lesser-known interpretations of simple words, that I performed three iterations of brainstorming, and mercilessly discarding every idea in the former two.

Screenshot from 2020-05-12 21-53-06.png

Congrats on everyone finishing!

ldresuls.PNG I was really happy with my game for this LD, and I think these scores are a pretty good reflection of that. Extra huge thanks to LordCakSpy who made the music - I'm positive I wouldn't have come nearly as high in that category if it wasn't for her music, you can check out more of her work here -> https://soundcloud.com/lordcakespy

What happened to the Ludum Dare Games from the Legacy Website Era?

I could've sworn when we transferred to the new site it was linked such that your old games showed up in your "My Games" section, but looking at my page the oldest one I see is from LD41. But I've done LDs as far back as LD26. Is this an error? Is there a way to have these linked back to my account? Please don't tell me all LDs before 41 are destroyed forever.

This is why planning is important

Capture.JPG

A result reflecting lack of planning. This was my second ludum dare and third jam overall and in this I learned the value of planning and managing your resources especially time with care.

I shared this in my postmortem as well that I went on with the very first idea I had, spent 2 days and then started fresh with a new idea and you can see that showing in the results. Disappointed not on the results, but my efforts. Looking forward to LD47. Congratulations to everyone who participated hope you all had good results.

Distribution of ranked games?

Is there any way to know how many games in a particular mode of LD (jam or compo) have gotten 20 votes and received a rank? There's only the distribution for submitted games, not for those that actually got ranked... Anyone?

Thank you everyone.
