Had to get rid of a "Title, say something" post from me feed, so here it is ig ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Psyched for LD48

This will be my 2nd Ludum Dare and I am very excited about it. My son was born since LD47 so I am a little worried that I won't have a lot of time during the weekend. Anyway, I will try to participate even if I'll have just a few hours.

Im in...

Hello guys....This is the second time iam attending ludum dare competition... ALL THE BEST!! to who and all attending and best of luck... If there are first - timers participating i wish them good luck and do ur best out of it :) CHILL OUT

An important notice for Mac players (repost for 48)

First things first, please, no “Mac vs PC” debates. Ludum Dare might be the only gaming community where I haven’t endured a “PC Master Race” flame war, it’d be nice if we could keep it that way.

Now that that is out of the way, I wanted to bring up a reoccurring issue that Mac-using participants have had to deal with in the past few Ludum Dares, the dreaded and cryptic “The Application can’t be opened” error.

34770.png

This was an issue with macOS Catalina that I believe is still present in macOS Big Sur. The actual cause is the app become corrupt when it’s uploaded/downloaded in a .zip file, particularly from itch.io

I know the cause, a fix for players that download apps with this error, and preventative measures uploads can take before distributing.

If you’re a developer sharing your game, be sure to place your .app file inside a .dmg file before uploading. Even if the .dmg is inside a .zip file, the .app file will still be protected. Your players should not have any issues.

For Mac users who’ve downloaded an already-corrupted .app, you’ll need to do a bit of Terminal maintenance. Right-click the .app, navigate to /Contents/MacOS, and find the single Unix executable file. Open a terminal window and type in “chmod +x “, then drag in the Unix executable. You should wind up something that looks like this:

chmod +x /Users/UserName/Downloads/GameName.app/Contents/MacOS/GameName Hit enter, you should see the icon change, and your .app should be good to go!

NOTE: I'm developing on Mac, so feel free to reach out to me about any games that need to be fixed.

18 Hours left time for another 8 Hours of Sleep

Jam packed day. Went from having only grid movement last night to having all my gameplay complete and about as much graphics as my skills allow me to produce. Plans for tomorrow are as follows - Music - Sound Effects - Options Menu (this is probably just gonna be sliders to control volume and maybe a resolution switcher in the desktop build) - Implement the actual rebindable controls system (this is mostly done already) - Create the information panel in game (so players don't have to look at something else to figure out how to play) - Other stuff that I am to tired to think about right now.

Here is the obligatory pre sleep screenshot of the days work. fulldayswork.png Also the player has animations for walking and jumping down the hole to go to a deeper level.

I forgot to post that I finished the game. Whoops!

Fortunately I did manage to submit for the compo so no problems there. If you like short puzzle games with full voice acting be sure to Click this text here. and play my game Down the Dwarven Hole

And for those of you who are bad at puzzle games like me don't worry there is a button in the options menu to skip to the next puzzle.

Avalible both through HTML5 and on Windows, Mac, and Linux. Also playable on Apple Silicon because apparently unity supports that these days.

Hello Everyone!

What's good? Here with Mike for LDJAM <3

Using Midjourney etc. in the LD Compo

I was hoping that we could continue this discussion as LD51 approaches. I worry that unless either @pov makes a ruling or the community somehow comes to a consensus, there are going to be a lot of arguments and bad feelings come R+R time. Some people seem to think that they obviously should be allowed to use these new AI art tools, and some think that they obviously should be banned. I can see both sides; here are some arguments from the last thread and from me.

For * the Compo rules state that "content generators are allowed" * current models have niche uses; require editing, prompt engineering, trial and error to get good results (not likely to be true for long, though) * better art means better games, raising the bar for everyone * as AI becomes more integrated with game dev over time, it may eventually seem silly to prohibit its use * it's a tool; don't tell me what tools I am and am not allowed to use

Against * the "content generators" mentioned in the rules are nowhere near as advanced as these new ones * the process of text-prompt-only generation can be compared to "commissioning" art, which is not allowed in the Compo * right now, access to strong models is inequitable, requiring either money (Midjourney, DALL-E) or powerful hardware (Stable Diffusion) * the Compo is supposed to be "hard mode" Ludum Dare, and in some ways this goes against the spirit of that idea * the rules state that "you must work alone" — at what point along the AI continuum are you no longer working alone?

Multiple commenters suggested that competitors be allowed to use AI art if they opt out of the Graphics category. I don't love that idea: you're supposed to do that when using existing assets in the Jam. While people sometimes do opt out of categories in the Compo, I think you should really adhere to all of its rules or do the Jam instead.

The community isn't going to reach a consensus all at once, and certainly not in the comments section of this post, but the more we talk about it before the fact, the better.

Here's a poll, whatever that's worth.

What's with partial ratings?

So I was looking at my game's metrics and I noticed that the ratings given is a floating number partial-ratings-weird.png I don't understand why this happens. I checked all the games I rated and I gave them a score for each category.

Finally Finished!

It was super close though :stuckouttongue: This time I didn't use a prebuilt game engine which made this event very hard but also very fun!

Feature Request

Bookmarking posts. Every so often I find an LD post that I really like and would like to find again. Right now I have to copy the url and save it somewhere in order to do that which is really annoying. A feature like this probably isn’t super high priority but I think it would be pretty cool.

Obligatory post

I'm in! Hopefully the Satisfactory withdrawals won't be too strong...

Stuff I'll probably use: - Godot - Blender if I go 3D - Aseprite if I go 2D - Krita for misc. art - Audacity, JSFXr, and FL Studio for any audio needs

Also took the day off after the jam ends to help recover
