LD26 April 26–29, 2013

I’m in for the fourth time

Yeah, I’m in.

I’ll most likely make a browser based 3D game, using my company’s game engine Goo Engine, which will be released publicly before the competition. The other tools I’ll probably use are:

Development environment: Windows 7
Programming: Sublime Edit, CoffeeScript
2D graphics: Gimp, Inkscape, Photoshop
3D modeling: Blender
Audio: BFXR
Music: SunVox

Just like last time, there’ll be a real-world gathering at Goo Technologies office in Stockholm, so that’s where you’ll find me.

Hoping for an inspiring theme.

Ummm, that engine is javascript? Looked at the paddle boat demo. That is pretty amazing!

LD26? I’m init().

Against my better nature to wait to see if I actually do have time free, I don’t believe school is planning anything big, so I am cautiously optimistic that I will be participating. Being my first LD, its going to be pretty fun, and I expect to have a great time.

Tools for the job?

If people got my joke (or a sad attempt at one), you might be guessing that I will be making an applet, if that’s the case, you’re correct. I’ll be using SE1.6 as I noticed that when I used the newer version, people had to download it and it was a pain. My IDE will most obviously be Eclipse Juno (because it’s amazing!!!).

My game will most likely be 2D, and for that, I will be using Pickle and PyxelEdit to make all my sprites, as for my music, I will probably end up using garage band, or if I don’t have time, I’ll have to get a royalty free track, but I hope that is not the case.

Gonna be super fun, hope to see you all there.

Literal Facepalm

For those who don’t remember me (which is a pretty large demographic) last time my entry failed because it didn’t have all the dependencies and crap.  I learned that you need to track some dependencies so that it would work.  I did this.  And I found that it was missing 2 dependencies (even though it could still run) and these were “ieshims.dll” and “wer.dll”.  After a quick bit of research, I found out that these are Internet Explorer default files that don’t exist in IE8.  Why, SDL, do you need INTERNET EXPLORER?

Also if anybody knows how the hell to export something on Visual Studios 2010, please tell me, nothing I try works.

So after fixing it I found out that my problem might be rooted in that my VC++ includes are 64 bit and the SDL components that I used are x86…

Oh, right, my tools!

In my “I’m in” post, I forgot to talk about my tools. 😛

Well, here ya go:

  • IDE: FlashDevelop
  • Libraries: Just Flixel
  • Graphics: Inkscape or GIMP, depending on what I make
  • Sound: BFXR or Audacity, depending on my willingness to make noises
  • Music: Haha! Maybe after the crazy deadline!
  • Platform: Adobe Flash Player version 10+

Yep, I’m still rocking Flash, even as HTML5 slowly rises to be its rival. Flash is still the most viable option at the moment, with Unity being overkill for many games and HTML5 having issues with inconsistency between browsers. Flash’s days are numbered, but it has lots of them left. :)

As far as the type of game I want to make, well…

I want to make a non-violent game. I’ve sort of been fascinated by the idea of games with mechanics other than combat, especially when they don’t have combat at all. So, I’m going to make a game without combat if I can make one fit the theme.

That being said, I’m looking forward to this jam. Oh, yeah, I’m doing the jam (72h) instead of the compo (48h), like I usually do.

This is going to be fun. I hope so, anyway. 😀

Ludum Dare, here I come.

I’m all set for Ludum Dare 26, This will be the first game that I have created properly and will certainly be a challenge for me but I’m up for it.

I plan on creating the game with:

  • HTML5
  • JavaScript
  • Gimp (for Graphics)
  • FreeSound (Sound effects)

I’ve just got to hope that the theme isn’t too difficult.  No matter what the circumstances, Ludum Dare 26, here I come.

Html5 there we go!

Goo luck.

Let’s do this!

This will be my first Ludum Dare, and hopefully first complete game. I’ll be creating a game using Monogame and Paint.Net for art assets. Can’t wait!

Real World Ludum Dare 26 Gatherings

While Ludum Dare is typically an online event (make a game from the comfort of your home), many real world events happen around Ludum Dare. Here’s the list:

If you want your event on the list, post a comment letting me know where your event is. Be sure to include a link to further details (either here on the blog, or elsewhere).

Rotro

Hey guys!

This past months I have been working on a puzzle/adventure/platformer game.  I’m still far away from finishing it so note that many things will change.  Here’s some screenshots of the current status of the game. (Click screenshots to view in HD)

Me too!

This will be my first LD.

Lang: Haxe
Libs: Haxe NME, some of my libs available on github
Tools: Sublime, Gimp, Inkscape
Goals: Create a complete game. Make it deployable to any platform supported by NME.

Whale of a Tale postmortem

Just finished posting my Whale of a Tale postmortem. The link is http://blazinggames.blogspot.com/2013/04/whale-of-tale-postmortem.html

For those who don’t follow links or want to read my blog entry, the summary:
What went right is going with a non-player violent game.
What went right and wrong was the game balance.
What went wrong was hospital delay.
Conclusion added to my ever growing revisit if have time list.

What, already???

Time surely passes too fast. LD 25 just has been just finished, and now there is LD 26? Too fast! I’m not ready to post an “I’m in” post, I’ll do it later. I still have a lot of things to get finished prior to it. Like an Unity game that I started previous month. Or a science project for school.

Lang: Haxe

Goals: Create something unique

YAIIP (yet another “I’m in” post)

Hi Ludum-Darians ! Well, I do post this just to say that my frenchself will be in the 26th Ludum Dare. This will be my second try (I’ve made the 24th last summer and I went out pretty well for the “Theme” rating 😀 ) and, just like the last time, I’ll use MMF2D, Photofiltre,  Bfxr, cgMusic, Gxscc and sooo much newbies tool. (Yeah, I wish I would be able to code a game by myself, one day ^^’)

It’s time to d-d-duel 😀

Am I in? Fuzz, yeah!

This is going to be my fourth Ludum Dare, and, will hopefully, produce my third game for the compo. Like last time, I am probably going to enter the jam, but I’ll hopefully have more time available over the LD weekend.

Tools I’m planning to use:

  • Code: JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3
  • IDE: Most likely NetBeans
  • Libraries: Either CreateJS or Crafty
  • Sound: Bfxr, or something similar
  • Graphics: Paint.NET

Yep, this is going to be my first attempt at making a HTML5 based game. I’m looking forward to it.

I’m in! (Pending exams aren’t stupid)

Language: Java/Scala or C#

Tooling: Eclipse or Visual Studio/MonoDevelop

Libraries: LibGDX or Monogame

Sounds: Not sure, probably BFXR and (potentially) some music if I get around to it.

This is tentative, as this is slap-bang in the middle of my finals, but I should be able to make it.

For all the new guys!

Are you new to Ludum Dare?
No plan how to start out? Worried about failing?

Fear no longer! I’m here to help you! Here are two articles containing all sorts of tips and tricks for surviving your first compo/jam:

Sol_HSA’s famous LD Survival guide!
Folis’ inofficial guide for newbies!

Also: Don’t get overly nervous, just because this is your first compo/jam, just try to prepare as well as you can, and enjoy the experience. Everyone started from zero. I was at your position too 8 compos ago! And I made my first game during a LD, so that works too!

So, good luck to everyone!
