Level selection disguised as a game engine GUI

This is our mushroom gate 3D model 🍄
Got the next phase of behaviours in and... well, I guess the bright side is that they do seem to have their own minds. Not what I want them to do, of course but, you know kids!
Tomorrow: Dot school!

Just finish the cover, a lil more details and the game is finally ready <3

You probably look at this and ask yourself what in the freakin' world is going on in this image. We too - but it looks dope.

As a powerful wizard, you, decided to create your own town, full of prosper. The place you chose is… interesting, to say. There is no time to waste, there’s a lot to do. Start by creating some houses, which will bring more people to the town. Supply them with water and food. And admire as your magnificent city piling up.

And good luck everyone!

Turns out participating in two weekend jams in a row is very tiresome. We managed to make First Playable by the end of day 2 and for now the road ahead seems very sloppy.
https://youtu.be/5SOYEr-eH7c
Now we have different formations like CRESCENT, INVERTED WEDGE, CONCENTRATED CENTER, OBLIQUE,...
The Commentator is in. It doesn't have too many lines yet but we'll get there.
Also all the unit names are "Joe" at the moment and we need your help getting more names in.
It's medieval times so we have a format like Name, Title. ex: Brainoid the Brave.
It'd be great if you can drop a few names using this form <3 : https://forms.gle/ieyVeTSHLkPXBtG89
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s83W3DFvOj0

17 walk cycles and 17 attack animations in less than 24 hours! I don't think I've ever done that in my life. (This is not the number of units in the game, just unique bodies that needed animating.)
Check out Going Postal! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/going-postal

Finally finished the Jam in just under 48 hours. You can try it out here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/switchboard

As it goes, life got in the way! I got some basic mechanics and rough sprites put together but no start/end screen, sound, and nothing more than the very basic gameplay. Was a little bummed about it today, but this thing happens all the time with events like this, just gotta be happy with the stuff I did find time to throw together and appreciate that I was having fun the whole time!
I'll still upload what I have, and might even poke around between now and Monday to make it more game-like for a Jam entry instead, but just know if you're not feeling too hot about this one you're definitely not alone :)
Completed my game entry for the compo. I like using game jams to try out something new. For this game jam I decided to try Panda3D. Using Panda3D was fun, although the lack of an editor to place objects in the scene made most of the program's source code about that (very tedious). With some preparation I could have turned Blender into my editor for the game by marking objects with user data and having my program read through the scene. Overall, Panda3D is a pretty nice engine that's easy to get into (I learned it in 72 hours-ish (48 during this jam), before then I only ever messed around with it, creating a single object with a spinning camera), has the stuff I need to make things, and the docs are better than most. I recommend trying it.
GL. May the bugs in your game cease.
Entry: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/unstable-ball-game
Despite the best advice, I tried alot of new techniques during this jam - always do, haha.
One of which was using blender to make 3d backgrounds, then rendering pixelated 2d videos for animated backgrounds. That way I could get changing lights, swaying cables, things flapping in the wind, etc - all with no skill in pixel artistry!
https://youtu.be/j9wqrUQYMcY
See the original 3d in the vid, and the translated 2d in the pic.
Unfortunately, although unity was able to get the transparent vids rendering (after much finagling) - it wasn't working when built to web. Last year I had a similar issue where experimental toying prevented a web release, and I wanted to avoid that fate this year - so I swapped to 2d backgrounds (still from blender). Then, I tried to recreate some of the ambiance that was lost with particle effects.
Did it work? Does it look passable? Would you use this technique to speed up your pixel art? Let me know what you think!
It is playable. And there's even global scoreboard, powered by cool @owca service!
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/$261726/free-online-highscore-service-for-jamers

Finally done with my game, it took a long time but eventually it started working ~~with no bugs hopefully~~. Anyways, it was a lot of fun this time around again and can't wait to see what you all have come up with!
My entry: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/a-curious-case-of-lines
This is my fourth LDJam in a row, and I am pretty proud of myself, even if my games seem to go downhill from the beginning. I switched already last time to the Godot engine that I like. But I have had little to no time to improve my skills since then, and it's sad not to see any improvements in the games I make. Next time I have to play a little with the engine around to make anything propper that spooks in my mind.

Now to the game "Keep the Pressure". The initial idea was to be in a spaceship or a nuclear reactor, and you have to tweak your instruments to stop the catastrophe. Two tools I built (a knob and a slider) did not make it into the game as I could not disable them and did not know how to continue with them. I did not put the final assets of them into the game as they did not work but "Keep the Pressure" is another game that I made in the LDCompo.
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/keep-the-pressure
Faultline Farm 🐷 is now finished!
Please enjoy setting little animals upright during an earthquake :cow:
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/faultline-farm

Just got my submission for the compo uploaded, was the tightest to the deadline I've ever been for a Ludum Dare. Happy with my game, wish I had more time to balance the gameplay loop and make it more challenging, but either way was a solid jam.
Made a short PSX style horror set in a fictional Russian city after a nuclear incident.

Check out my game here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/the-salatroitsk-incident

Hi, my name is Nikolas Crisci and I am a solo dev from Würzburg Germany (part time). I just submitted my first Compo entry and I would love if you could give me feedback.

I am looking forward to any feedback, it proved to be quite difficult and I needed to cut some puzzles to make it in time.
Regards Niki
Pro tip: use background blur to make hastily made assets blend better.
We're ending at the 48 hour mark for our team for reasons and we're getting everything in while we still can!!
I'm delighted to have finished in time for the Compo. I made some last minute beeps to give the game some music. If anyone plays this, I'll be delighted!
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/bear-ferry-simulator
I'VE BEEN IN THIS PLACE BEFORE

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/skeleton-crew
Another compo complete, however its still humbling to have projects where my eyes are much bigger than my stomach. If only I had all the time in the world, there are many things that I would have loved to still add to the project.

Music was just not able to fit in, and my polish is lacking on all counts. This is turning to be a habit for the Fall edition of Ludum Dare for me, so spring time I will be properly humbled.
This is actually the first time I have something playable 24 hours in advance. There are still many features planned but we can ship without them. Would be great to manage tho!

Hopefully I can fit in two or three more levels :P
Finally finished, and while I am far from proud of the end product (barely a game) I am reasonably happy with my take on the theme. Feel free to check it out and try to stop Kim Jong Un from firing his big rockets, or don't, it's up to you.
Hope you get a laugh out of it.

Hi there,
I had a game, but alas when I hit build, the canvas resized and the background image could not be seen anymore. It is 11 minutes to the deadline, so I am done with LDJAM49 for now and continue to say "one day I'll finish and upload something on time!"
I did have a good time and that's what counts. I actually spent 12 hours on Ludum Dare this time around. Most of that time was spent trying stuff, going back to tutorials and forum discussions when things did not work, and spending entirely too long to get basic stuff to work (for example, manipulating variables in one script with another script).
My game revolved around a slider to increase and decrease power and a button to cool down the reactor. You had to closely meet the power demand (more points if you are close) without failing to meet the demand (massive point penalty) or running too hot (failstate).
All the best and hopefully see you all in the future,
Kai
Just published ahead of Compo deadline. Second participation to LD and lots of fun and time management lessons. A lot less pressure than the first time, some valuable learnings applied (submit early, submit often), others not (first-time use of Bevy Engine, lots of time lost working around bugs and learning things during the jam instead of actually producing content), but overall a pretty good experience! 🤩
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/libra-city

Welcome to Libra City, city planning on a needle (literally...).
Pretty classical interpretation of the theme, which like a lot of people it seems gave me troubles finding a good idea, but overall that didn't take too long. I've seen a similar one by @gamepopper (free ad 😋) though didn't play it yet; hopefully they're still a bit different.
8 minutes! Do your best everyone! 🚀
This is my 8th game in a row for the Ludum Dare and for the first time I will have to switch to the Jam. Welp, I have worked on it for just a bit over one day, so it's not that surprising. Even if I wanted to publish something half-baked, I don't have gameplay yet, so I don't have a choice. On the other side, I'm starting to like the game, or at least its version in my head :) See you all tomorrow!

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/unstable49-balance
I only had a few hours to participate but I am glad I was able to put something together that is at the very least playable lol.

Okay! I managed to finish the game somehow!
If anyone wants to play, here's the link.
I overscoped and needed to cut corners, so the game is super short, but I think the idea isn't entirely terrible and could be explored a bit more.
I just published my compo entry for the jam. Bring back the good old "world of goo" memories
How it looks now

How it started

Had a lot of fun making it and learned a lot!
See you all at LD50 :v:
I'm gonna hit the sack for now, see y'all tomorrow for the last hours of the JAM!

this is a dublicate i cant delete
Eat well, sleep well, drink well, but the game is not balanced very well.

Woo! I managed to finish my game on time! I would have liked to add more levels but I'm happy with what I made. This was my first Ludum Dare, it was stressful but quite fun.

Aw man.
I mean, I did have motivation issues, but OTOH, I do feel that taking care of myself and not burning out is very valuable. I am fairly far along, not counting stuff like graphics and special effects. I am missing alternate attacks and things that worsen the mood.
The main idea was about worse mood enabling more powerful attacks which destroy food, which makes it harder to regain mood... Bah. I'll write a proper description later.
I've implemented the basics of the game. Now it has
The music is made with Ableton Live.
For tomorrow I need to construct a somewhat fun level to play.
Made with Godot and C#.

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/keptin-de-core-is-unstable
Heh, finished with few minutes to spare in better shape that I hoped for :) Can you keep the ship running? (You probably can, because the difficulty is tuned down too much now...)
After a 4 year break, and after changing to a programming language I hardly know I'm back, and I just submitted my game! I didn't use an engine and tinkered around with c++ and openGL. I had a great time making it but on the other hand the game isn't great but oh well I learned a lot!
Happy to be here and can't wait to play all your great games!

Could use some more polishing and features for convenience, but I'm proud I was able to finish.
You can check my game falling flamingo out at https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/falling-flamingo
After not knowing what to do for the first day. I made this game in 26 hours. I also slept in that 26 hours and did other things. So more like 15ish hours? Any who here is my submission for the Compo. https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/$258399
Enjoy.

The project advances! with @thephennix 💪💪
We still have to do all animations, Level design and a lot of feedback! We keep the "Unstable touch" for tomorrow 👀
Good luck everybody for last day 😀
And now, while we wait, I'll try and prot it to mobile before the jam ends.
PLAY TECHNUCLEAR, a trippy and groovy rythm action game about splitting atoms !

Grr.. I actually managed to somewhat finish a game on time and ran into an export issue with Godot at the last minute. I don't know how to fix this or if I will have enough time to submit for the compo.

We've been hard at work on Un-Stabled, and it's coming down to the last couple of hours for us. Good luck to everyone else who can jam tomorrow, you have 24 hours left!
Haha, submitted the entry literally seconds before the compo ended (didn't know about submission hour - oops).
In any case, SCANLINE is done! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/$264178
Super inspiring project. Had a ton of fun with the level design and aesthetics. Surprisingly happy with the result, considering I wasn't a fan of the theme, and that yesterday was relatively slow going.
Can't wait to see what others have cooked up!

Congratulations everyone that took part in the compo! If anyone want's to check out my game I'd love to hear what you think.
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/crossed-connections
Takes forever, am I right?
There is always the the rushing at the end. I was so sure I had planned better this time.
Here is my submission for the Compo.
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/$265896

Having started game developing not too long ago, I had a goal to join Ludum Dare but never thought I would actually finish in time for the Compo. This was quite the experience, but had so much fun the whole time.!!

Upon the deadline, there were still things that I wanted to add, but I am proud of myself that I was able to make this! Excited to see what other people have made.
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/parcel-panic
Say hello to Antenna Antics! It's an NES game! It's a bit lousy! But it runs on actual hardware (I tested).
Give it a shot if you'd like :D
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/antenna-antics

(Here's the game running on my Twin Famicom. It's a bit dark but I'm super tired right now as you might guess)

Because nothing says "Unstable" like asking a program to run itself.
With this program copying technology, I've managed to make Snake.
This was my first jam game and I had a lot of fun making it.
If you have time, feel free to rate it: https://ldj.am/$265994

Concept art and 3D model for the quests in the game

This Ludum Dare I struggled harder than before for some reason. I'm not too happy with the result, but I guess it could've been a lot worse.
Here it is, I present to you Connection Lost, a game about fixing unstable network connection by moving closer to the source.

I'm looking forward to playing your games, but right now, it's time for bed

i am pretty happy with this silly thing i made :)
Well, Well, Well... GameDesign is taking longer than I expected. Fawk. At least I got other 24Hours to create something good. Let's do this. wohooo

This is my first time participating, just finished my first entry, it was a bit more stressful than I anticipated, now I really regret not recording the whole process :( Would have been so great to watch myself go thru the whole process again, For next time I will know better!
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/hot-nucleus

Welcome to this beautiful island. It is time for the annual drunken foot race. So grab a beer and get to running. Just don't get caught up in the inevitable drunken brawls that break out.
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/$258945 https://illogicaldesigns.itch.io/what-a-beach

If you're fast enough, you might even win the even. It is considered a great honor, but everyone has fun either way.

While I did end up overscoping on features, I had a blast working on and improving my skills with Unity 2D. If you would like to check it out, you can see it at https://gregtmiller.itch.io/humanslivedhere!

First off, I wish everyone a nice rest after this LD49, more so with that theme, right?
I will be playing and rating during the week. If you don't mind, here's my entry for UNSTABLE.
Play + Rate: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/sanity-check
Mike is not at his best, the last few weeks were really tough, but there’s a silver lining: he finally managed to get a job. His mental health has been very UNSTABLE lately, what nobody knows is that there’s one very brave positive vibing neuron that is doing it’s best to help him.
So, your job is to grab those thoughts and throw them into the correct emotions.
Keyboard and Gamepads supported. Have fun!

My Compo entry is finally finished, and for once not only was I able to get sound recorded and included. More importantly, it's an important feature! Try it out and rate over here! It may not be easy, but you can make it home!
This time I heavily underestimated complexity of my game but I'm happy I delivered something.

Tumbly-Bird is done! The real gamejam was the gifs we made along the way.....?
that was too many gifs. check out the game page if you want more.

After two hours trying to get a WebGL build working it's finally done! Had to extract everything and import into another project to get the WebGL build to load. Overall the weekend was quite stressfull but I don't regret it.
Retrospective: * Wasted lot of time learning Unity new input system. * Should have finished more of the game before starting to polish. * Really happy with how the shaders turned out. * Playtesting takes time, especially on hard levels.
Almost everything in my original plan was completed: :heavycheckmark: story idea, :heavycheckmark: player, :heavycheckmark: player movement - keyboard and controller, :heavycheckmark: level building blocks, :heavycheckmark: shaders, :heavycheckmark: main menu, :heavycheckmark: ending, :heavycheckmark: player visuals, :heavycheckmark: fail state info, :heavycheckmark: sound, :heavycheckmark: levels, :heavycheckmark: music, :heavycheckmark: level transition, :x: level background visuals - 50%, :x: polish - 50%, :x: a few other things - 30%,
Please enjoy my rage inducing short platformer, Unpredictable Processes! It's only 10 levels but they ramp up in difficulty.
Its nice to see all the assets finally come together. Now all we need is an actual game! :D

I thought I wouldn´t make it this time again! But Brainxious just barely made it over the finishing line.

Believe it or not, because I haven't done a game jam in five months, and had been mostly pre-occupied on non-game dev stuff during that time, I thought I'd be too rusty to finish the compo.
Yet here it is! The game is done and submitted for the compo! Ultimately decided not to enter for audio since I couldn't find a suitable way to create decent enough music for a city builder.
Still pretty happy with what I made, the physics code in my engine hadn't been properly tested in a game project, so it was great to properly test the code and made sure it ran properly.
You can find it here, be sure to play and rate it when the submission hour finishes!
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/unstable-ground-1

This post is not supposed to be here.
Well, I've gotten the core gameplay down.....now I have to do everything.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0TRkDws6Qg
I guess this will be my first time doing the Jam instead of the Compo. Since I got all the basics done, at least I'll be able to polish things a lot.
I guess that's what I get for using nightly rust...

See our page to play, like and comment ! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/$265496

I humbly present to you my compo game for LD49: Serene Stability. Enjoy a serene, relaxing experience while you navigate 20 challenging, but satisfying levels. Best of all? This game can be enjoyed in your browser window.
I guess the Queen doesn't like getting messy plates in her knee. Let's see if me and @fredcarl can wrap it up tomorrow!

After more than 6 months of practice in Unity, I'm finally more comfortable playing with components.
We the help of my collegue https://ldjam.com/users/justin-gagnon-lavoie, we did a geat job help eachother.
You can play, like and comment here => https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/flower-lab

We are working as a team between animators, programmers, sound engineers, and level/game designers! We hope you like it when we finish it;)
animacionld49.png

As per usual, I'm blown away! It's amazing what people create in 48 hours and how they interpret the theme. Unstable apparently had a lot of ways to look at it.
Can't wait to start rating!

Had a great time this weekend. I was able to focus and made a simple puzzle game. If you like tense puzzle games, give it a try!
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/nuclear-crysis

Very busy day ends - most of our graphics are in, but no sound yet. Worse, the first playtest showed a lot of problems to tackle, a lot of it coming from the complexity of the rules. I know what to do, but it pains me a bit to cut finished content (wheat field) because it is not intuitive enough. Tomorrow we'll see if we can make this thing fun!

A game about mentally unstable guy. Soon ++

This marks the eighteenth time I have participated in the Compo. Ludum Dare is one of my favorite events of the whole year. Thanks to everyone for making this a great place. If you feel so inclined check out my procedurally generated cave exploration game, Upheaval

The game will be about this wizard, called Genomancer, whose unique DNA allows to use various abilities. However since the atmospehere is kinda radioactive, the DNA changes constantly, so the abilities change as well. The game will be a standard top-down shooter with the avoid projectiles mechanics, kind of like Isaac, and a bit like Enter the Gundeon or Nuclear Throne but with much slower projectiles.
The projectiles are still very ugly but they will be better in the last version, hopefully. For now there is still a bit of enemy logic/AI to do, and maybe something with the bottom bar to be nicer and smaller (to allow longer DNA).
Also why Ludum Dare won't allow webms, it would be much easier to fit the size limit.

https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/unstable-empire

Hey! Check out my game: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/garbostackers
Wanna get paid real money? Get yourself in that garbage hauler and squeeze some hot and wet garbage … Those guys from green corp. will pay you big money for fast and quality work! But be careful, hauler will crash if you will not place everything stable…
You control special garbage press. Move and press down everything that lands on your garbage hauler.
Move mouse on outside of vessel, to position your press. LMB - to start pressing garbage. When you feel like your truck is full, press RMB in middle of hauler, to switch it to next layer. Hauler has 4 layers, when you fill up last one? press RMB in middle of hauler to end the run. Game will end if you will be unstable for 5 sec or your path end (timer 10 mins)
After being scared of not finishing on time, finally finished and submitted the game! It was quite an experience, tiring and anxiety inducing but I really enjoyed it, will definitely participate again in the next Ludum Dare! The game is basic but its something, proud of it nonetheless. https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/$265402

I'm especially glad to finish something for a ludumdare again - I've been making alakajam games, but my most recent ldjam experiences were a bit rocky. Not enough time, life events taking motivation away - not this time!
Been going for short 3D experiences recently, so I made an artsy fps game this time. :)
Feeling grateful to see all those people participating in these jams. Looking forward to check out some games!
