LD25

I’m in!

Never done a Ludum Dare before – but in for a penny, in for a pound – so I’m going for the compo (rather than the jam).

Tools:

  • Code: CoffeeScript
  • Library[s]: CreateJS
  • Graphics: The GNU Image Manipulation Program, Inkscape
  • Music: KORG DS-10 (run on a Nintendo DS, recorded via line in)
  • Sound: BFXR, KORG DS-10, mircophone

Just getting started…

It’s about 11am here in England and I’ve just got back from walking the dog.

I was really hoping the theme would be “time loops”, but I think I can work with “you are the villain”: my games going to be about an evil cat bent on destruction of the hamster race.  I’ve come up very loose design/plan/set of ideas which (if all goes well) I’ll be coding and doing the level designs for today and adding the graphics and sound to tomorrow…

The story so far:

Cons:

  • I’ve written a lot less code than I’d planned so far.
  • SoundJS appears to need a lot more bootstrap code than I realized (I thought it was as simple to use as EaselJS and TweanJS).  Hmmm, that’ll teach me to not try and use it before LD.  I hope PreloadJS isn’t that bad as well.
  • I don’t think I’m going to have enough time to fit a goat in my game

Pros:

  • I’ve got a lot more artwork done than I expected, and considering how long I’ve been drawing for I think it looks pretty good.
  • My title screen is almost done (and animated).
  • My model and view code is still very patchy, but the design is (mostly) planned and the implementation is quite simple.
  • I may actually finish (maybe????)

(a quick screen shot of the title screen and some code…)

ZZzzzzz…

Sleep has stopped being the enemy…
