LD33

In For LD33

Hooray.  This will be my first Ludum Dare and I’m excited.

My team’s just me, and my toolset is:

  • Unity3D with Fungus
  • Photoshop
  • Fruity Loops, Audacity
  • Endless caffeine

This should be fun, and I’m looking forward to playing all the new games made from this jam.

Good luck, have fun, drink coffee!

Update #1: Story, Art, Planning

Update behind the cut!

conceptshare2

Art

First update!  Hooray.  Working title for the game is ‘Cutthroat You, Homesick Me’. Here’s some character sketches that will be the basis for the sprites:

Story

Since I like making story-based games and interactive fiction, I decided to start by basing a story around the theme.  Here’s a premise.

Ollie King.  An aging, ex-Elvis impersonator longing for the old, gold days when he was the best.

Desperate to relive it all, Ollie meets up with the urban legend: The Las Vegas Devil.  A wish-granting demon who feeds off the soul of rock and roll itself, he makes the deal Ollie wants.

But no deal like that comes cheap.

Now with the appearance and skills of the original King, but possessed by the devil and losing control of himself to it, Ollie has to decide whether the fame is worth it or if he should find a way out of the deal – if there’s even a way out to begin with.

Gameplay

I’m using Unity with Fungus to make a point and click adventure game based off puzzle-solving and dialogue conversations.  The interface is pretty simple, with the bottom part of the screen giving access to a draggable inventory, navigation in the top left, and options in the top right.

*Here’s a (messy) conglomeration of brainstorming and interface sketches:

*And yes, Chapter 1 is titled “Glorious Sideburns”.

Audio

I’ve yet to start on the audio!  My experience in Fruity Loops is mostly limited to simple ambient music, so this will be a task.

Etc

I’ll be updating through here, twitter here, and (possibly) tumblr here.

Having a lot of fun so far, and enjoying all the amazing stuff everyone’s already come up with so far.

Style reminds me of one of my artists on another project. Find him on Facebook…Jason Grimes…you two might hit off for a future project.
