Ludum Dare 48

Submitted "Bad Night"

I heard "deeper and deeper" and I was thinking hmm like in the ocean? Or... digging a hole? How about getting lost in the woods?

I decided to go with the idea of the woods since I couldn't very well think of how to approach creating an underwater or underground environment. With that in mind, I was thinking I wanted to do survival horror. Now I don't really think I ended up making a survival horror game but I did make a game about hiding a body, getting chased by a pack of dogs, and a surprise meeting with an old friend.

The game I made is called "Bad Night". I'm sorta bad at naming things. It's a short linear narrative game in 3 dimensions rendered in the best crusty PS2 graphics I could crank out in 72 hours.

This is my "third" LD entry, but the first I could call even moderately complete, so I'm very happy with the result, considering.

The game is powered by OpenGL and a handful of 3rd party libraries, all loosely linked together with a C++ framework I made last week, and a fair amount of utility code I've been copy-and-pasting across projects for months.

Linux build is live. I compiled it with GCC 8.3 on Debian 10, amd64. I am a complete novice with distributing programs written in C++, so I am not terribly confident it will run out of the box. However, if you have any problems please let me know-I don't want the distribution to be the reason no one plays it (I'd rather the quality be the reason :) ). Windows build is coming soon and will likely carry the same caveats.

I had a great time this weekend and just wanna congratulate everyone who submitted something! Looking forward to playing a bunch these next weeks.

Edited to add link. Duh
