LD 42

In this

2nd LD, first since I have had any idea how to program a game :-)

I plan to make an OpenGL-based, most likely 2D game. At this point it's looking like I'll be utilizing LWJGL 3 and programming in Java for ease of portability. If LWJGL's GLFW bindings are acting funky with X11, though, I may be forced to use C++. Hope I can manage to get something shipped!

Super excited to see what everyone comes up with. Let's hope we get a real theme! Good luck everyone xox

Standby for technical difficulties

T minus less than two hours and I finally got eclipse installed on my desktop. With technical skills like these I may have an RGB triangle on screen within the first 36 hours! Let the gripes -er, games? BEGIN!

wow

After 48 hours of uncertainty and compromise, my submission "The Big Crunch" is complete. I was unable to add all the features I wanted, as of now there is no real win condition other than not hitting the lose condition, which is pretty hard to do anyway. I also was in the process of trying to get a particle system/stars background implemented. A few more hours might do it, but oh well. I am happy with how far I got and working on a mini-project like this was a great change of pace :-)

The game isn't very well balanced, but if you choose, you may compile the source yourself with any of the settings modified. They are all stored in Settings.java. Let me know if you do, and if you find any settings combinations that work well.

Notes for next time: get a more robust engine framework set up prior to the compo, do not spend the first night trying to create complex data structures that will not be used in the final product, get some sounds in there.

Looking forward to playing as many of these as I can.
