Flowers n Bees

Flowers n Bees was made for the 8th Ludum Dare 48 hour programming competition. This was my first attempt to create a game in 48h, so it was quite a challenge to come up with something playable at all. The goal of the game is to gather honey for the winter. However, you cannot collect honey on your own. Instead you have a swarm of bees at your command that can do the gathering for you. Flowers n Bees was programmed in Python using PyGame, PyOpenGL and PGU.

it looks fun but how can i play

Log: Snowroller(?)

First screenshot. We can see snowballs beeing pushed away with a explosion (notice the great explosion animation) and that is all. Now I only have to put some gameplay in this game and it will rock! :) As I have used pyglet and pymunk for this game, the little code Ive written myself is almost nothing, but that will change now when I have to make it playable…

Snowroller Final

Wow, “finished” the game with more than an hour left. Very simple gameplay, but at least playable in a couple of minutes (I hope!). Note: This version require that you have python and pyglet installed. Read the readme.txt! I will hopefully be able to make a py2ex’d version tomorrow.
The game can be downloaded here: Snowroller download (2nd try)

edit: Papper found a last minute bug that Ive fixed (within the time.) Now it is the final version (really!).

It’s nice, but the limited amount of dynamite really prevents it from being fun. I spend most of the game sitting around dying waiting for more dynamite.

Final: Cat Protector!

Wow, cool stuff! Protect the cats from the wall of doom in this cool game!

(Written in python with help from cocos2d, pyglet and pymunk)

update: I fixed a better place to put the files on, and renamed the downloads to better match the naming scheme.

Download: viblo_LD14_CatProtector.zip (python code/source)

Sorry about that, but had to find a place to upload it to quick last night. I have found a better place to host them on now, so I hope you will try my game anyway!

Workspace With a View – Coding in Manila

In contrast to other times Ive done the ludumdare Im now working from Manila (in the Philippines). It has several downsides, to start with the internet here isn’t the best one, and I only got my 13″ laptop to code on. And to make things worse, the screen is half-broken, it got a 3-4cm wide line in the middle which flickers or displays a solid gray color so have to squeeze in all relevant info in half the screen either to the right or left :(

On the other hand, Manila has some advantages, for example the scenic view from where Im writing this:

A view from the outdoor area on the 31st floor of the building where I’ve got my apartment. Nice to look at, even if its a bit hot outside right now..

I wonder if there’s any other entrants from the Philippines/Manila?

Not in the Philippines, but I’m a Canadian-born Filipino. Only had the opportunity to visit family there a few times.
