Score chasers is a tournament where people compete to get high scores in games submitted to Ludum Dare. This includes things such as completing a game in the lowest amount of time, getting the most score in a game, or other ways a game can be competed in.

The tournament for this Ludum Dare will take place on Saturday, October 14, 2023 12:00 PM ET with this edition of the tournament being hosted by @ategon. It will be streamed over on twitch at twitch.tv/ategondev for anyone who's interested in watching it (or if a contestant wants to stream their pov you can watch them as well).

How to Join

Anyone is free to become a contestant! Free free to join our discord if youre interested in joining or watching the event when it happens. In order to qualify for the tournament you need to submit an impressive score for any one of the games submitted to the jam.

Which games will be played in the tournament?

Games are submitted to the tournament by contestants. Contestants will submit games they enjoy and then the submitted games will get voted on by all of the contestants to determine the ones played in the tournament. You are not able to submit your own game for voting.

#1: Cyber Serpent (around 4:15pm UTC)

A score based game where you need to collect pickups from the ground while avoiding and shooting enemies. Every pickup you get increases your score multiplier and score is earned based on time survived. Both you and enemies can run into your tail as well to destroy the enemies or yourself respectively.

A score based game where you need to keep baby penguins on the field while dropping seals into the water. Every seal you drop gives you a point and every baby penguin thats still alive gives you bonus time to do actions in. If theres no more baby penguins or a seal gets to your igloo you lose.

A game where you have to compress text as much as possible. Compressing occurs from highlighting a sequence of letters that occurs multiple times in a piece of text.

#4: The Big Crunch (around 5:45pm UTC)

You need to complete a series of microgames that continually get faster and faster. Score is based on the amount of microgames you can complete and each microgame makes you do a different task such as landing a spaceship or dodging asteroids.

A score based game where you need to dodge projectiles with your cursor. Score is primarily based on time survived with you also being able to do various other things on the field to increase your score.

An undertale fan game where you dodge a random sequence of attacks as the timescale keeps increasing (in the endless version of the game).

A battle royale between crabs on a raft. If you die then you become a seagull and attempt to hinder the other competitors.

Score chasers is a tournament where people compete to get high scores in games submitted to this Ludum Dare. This includes things such as completing a game in the lowest amount of time, getting the most score in a game, or other ways a game can be competed in. The tournament is taking place on Saturday, April 27th, 2024 4:00 PM UTC (with it being broadcasted on https://twitch.tv/ategondev).

This thread is a spot where you can share potential games for competitors to look at and possibly submit to be played in the tournament. Its not guaranteed that games will get in as there is a very large amount of games submitted to the jam and only around 6 or 7 get played in the tournament based on what competitors vote on.

Games that typically work well with the tournament are ones that either have a score system that can be competed in or can have speedruns, and where runs of the game dont end up taking a large amount of time so they can be run through multiple times in the tournament.

A score based game where you need to absorb falling humans and then resummon them, either to aid in your survival or to sacrifice on altars for points.

A score based game where you need to summon the correct friends for shapes (aka summon the same shape as them). Each arrow key corresponds to a different shape and points are earned by choosing the correct one as soon as possible.

#3: Throes of the Javelin (100% run) (around 5:15pm UTC)

A speedrunning game where you need to traverse a subterranean labyrinth with hidden collectibles. You can use your javelin to knock yourself back, to use as a platform, or to summon back to get its momentum. The 100% route will be run meaning all collectibles will need to be collected before completing the game.

A score based game where you need to draw shapes around enemies of that shape to defeat them. The stress mode version will be played which is 5x harder than the regular game submitted to the jam

A game where you need to touch waypoints by driving around on your bike and avoiding traffic. The race mode will be played which requires players to race against each other on the same track through a series of waypoints.
