The qualification period for the next Ludum Dare Score Chasers tournament has started!

Score chasers is a tournament where people compete to get high scores in games submitted to this Ludum Dare within a certain amount of time. This includes things such as completing a game in the lowest amount of time, getting high scores in a game, or other ways a game can be competed in. The tournament is taking place on Saturday, October 19th, 2024 4:00 PM UTC on https://twitch.tv/ategondev.

Anyone is free to join the tournament! In order to qualify you need to submit an impressive score in any game submitted to the jam. To submit you can join our discord at https://discord.gg/FhP4jaZ7KS and post a screenshot of your score in the entry submissions channel.

If youre interested in just watching the tournament feel free to join as well to get notified about things such as when it goes live and to chat with contestants + other people watching

Another Ludum Dare has ended and the next Score Chasers tournament is starting!

Score chasers is a tournament where people compete to get high scores in games submitted to this Ludum Dare within a certain amount of time. This includes things such as completing a game in the lowest amount of time, getting the most score in a game, or other ways a game can be competed in. The tournament is taking place on Saturday, October 19th, 2024 4:00 PM UTC (with it being broadcasted on https://twitch.tv/ategondev).

This thread is a spot where you can share potential games for competitors to look at and possibly submit to be played in the tournament. Its not guaranteed that games will get in as there is a very large amount of games submitted to the jam and only around 6 or 7 get played in the tournament based on what competitors vote on.

Games that typically work well with the tournament are ones that either have a score system that can be competed in or can have speedruns, and where runs of the game dont end up taking a large amount of time so they can be run through multiple times in the tournament.

Voting for score chasers has ended and the competitors have voted on the 5 games that will be played in the tournament! Here are the 5 games in order of when they will be played.

#1: Mooovement Game (around 4:15pm UTC)

A speedrunning game where you need to slide down slopes and strafe to build up your momentum (aka yeets/hour). The 100% category which involves collecting all optional collectibles currently has a high score of 2:28.602 by the competitor @nertsal while any% and genocide% (not collecting any collectibles) has a high score of 2:18.588 also by nertsal

#2: Adelie - When We Were Young (around 4:45pm UTC)

A score based game where you collect fish and drop them into a zone to feed baby penguins. Dropping more fish at the same time (including more than is required) increases the amount of points you get for each subsequent fish. So the first fish in the chain might be worth 10 points while a 6th fish in the chain of what you dropped will be worth 60 points. Hitting obstacles that spawn on the map will make you drop all your fish and also turn them into more obstacles. The record is currently 6640 points held by competitor @kuviman.

#3: Boroporo (around 5:15pm UTC)

A score based game where you control arm movements and whether or not to grab. You need to recover and bring back small creatures to your cave while preventing them from getting eaten by larger creatures that spawn in. The current record is 64, held by competitor and dev of the game, @pomo.

#4: Da Eg Hatcha (around 6:00pm UTC)

A foddian where you need to boost yourself around and touch eggs on the map to hatch them. There is also optional money collectibles you can find and collect. The current record for no money is around 50 seconds and is held by one of the competitors, @meep while the record for all money is around 1 minute 30 seconds held by @osh-studio.

Score based game where you prevent a sandwich from falling over while collecting as much food onto it as you can. The current record is 7393 held by @jenkinz94.

A few of us who'd met through the LD community had always loved the idea of creating a new jam that built on all the bits we loved most about game jams. We started to slowly work together to plan and build the jam, but when the news came that LD56 got cancelled - we accelerated our efforts and created the jam. We wanted a community-centred game jam which welcomes anyone looking for that sense of community spirit found in LD. It's previously felt uncomfortable for us to promote another jam to the LD community - but feel Mike's call to "Make Your Own LD" is a blessing for us to do so. So we'd like to introduce Down2Jam (D2Jam)!

What is D2Jam?

We wanted a jam which celebrated post-submission events, encouraged discourse and reflection, and provided tools for developers to find and share games. We know that making games isn't just about the creation, but also about engagement! Our website has been built especially for the jam, helping jammers share their games and engage during the event. We're adding more features for every new event ❤️

We've just finished our third jam which had 40 games submitted. The jam offers different ways to take part, whether you're solo, a team, or need a bit longer than a weekend to make something awesome. The quality of the games have been awesome on the whole, and seeing discussions in the comment sections and a whole load of streams of people playtesting games has easily been the best part of the jams to date.

Down2Jam offers familiar features that we think the LD community will enjoy:

• Twice a year, 3 days long (longer-form format available too, similar to Extra of LD)
• Solo or Team (similar to Compo vs Jam of LD)
• Theme Suggestions > Theme Voting > Jam > Submissions > Feedback & Rating > Results.

There's an official D2Jam Discord which is where most of the community chatter takes place at the moment. This is also where you can give feedback and help shape this jam to be a community you're proud to be a part of. There's no one single caretaker at the helm, instead we are a collection of 10 people who work together to build the best jam we can.
