Best name ever right?

Real coolness

I’ve taken note that a lot of people comment stuff like “Well done”, “Good job”, “nice” etc. just to increase their “Coolness level”. The coolness level should be based on the quality of the feedback, not the amount. I’m not sure if this is the right place to suggest this, but to one way to combat this would be some form of minimum letter limit (which on it’s own doesn’t solve the problem). Of course i love hearing whether something is good or bad, but it’s the juicy part is the reason behind it :)

Shameless self promotion:

More rules probably won’t fix that, as all rules can be exploited. And it most likely cannot be objectively decided by a moderator (or anyone) if a short comment was made in good faith or not. Cultivating a culture of honesty/honor is probably the best solution. After all you have to make a game to become a judge which is quite a commitment.

Leaving a comment or not doesn’t, as far as I know, influence your coolness ratings. It’s kind of a proportion between how many games you’ve rated by how many ratings you’ve received (at some point, it seems to grow linearly with the lesser of your ratings and your votes).

I think that the fake idea that comments give coolness came from the fact that many of us play (or attempt to play) the games of their own game commentators. And some (like me) also try the commentators games of other games they have liked (“if you like what I like, I may would like what you’ve done”). Since we all like receive a comment, we tend to give also a comment for each game we tried. So eventually, the more you play, the more you comment, the more you are visible, and as a result, the more you get votes. I mean : it’s the effect, not the cause. 😉
