LD 43

Switching engines

"Oh I know, I'll use ECS in MonoGame while I've never used that before."
So that was a massive waste of time :|
Hopefully I can move everything to Unreal and still submit the game to the compo on time.

On the upside at least now I might be able to do a web build, so that's something.

The compo dream is over

After pretty much starting over at the end of yesterday due to picking the wrong tools this is all I've got.

I haven't even started working on the main mechanic yet Q.Q

I can still do this

I've finally added the thing that ties the theme into the game: you have to select an upgrade between each wave, but each upgrade also has a drawback. Sacrifice one stat for another.

Now it's time to make more waves, enemies, add sound... I can still do this... right?

Finally done

Not as feature complete as I'd like but I'm still quite happy with how it turned out. I really don't have the energy anymore to add any new features.

I didn't enjoy this LD as much as I hoped/expected. It's really demotivating to have to scrap an entire day of progress and start over. Hopefully the next one will be more fun. At least this has been a big learning experience for me in picking the right tools.

Now it's time to see what everybody else made! :D

LD 44

In for the 3rd time!

I've been so hyped for the next LD from the moment the previous one ended, and now it's finally time again! As usual, my main two goals are upload something, and make that something as fun as possible to play.

Tested the whole UE4 HTML5 export and hosting on itch.io before the jam instead of during (definitely didn't do that last time... really... :innocent:), so this time my game should be playable in the browser!

The tools I'll probably be using: - Unreal Engine 4 - Visual Studio 2017 - Gimp/Aseprite (depending on the aesthetic) - Blender - LMMS, never really used it before but I don't want to opt out of sound again

Quick question: does anyone else feel like the actual jam/compo itself is incredibly stressful and the entire thing (including working on the game) suddenly becomes fun once you've uploaded something?

Maybe I'm just taking it too seriously every time.

Good luck everyone, and have fun!

Stream overlay thingy

Never streamed before but I might as well try that this time. Quickly slapped together a stream overlay thing in MonoGame. Most of it apart from the bottom text should remain hidden unless something crashes or I'm AFK :) overlay.png

Don't know if/when I'll start streaming tomorrow, but it'll be on this channel: https://www.twitch.tv/reimari

No ideas

Well, I do have ideas with this theme. But none of them seem interesting enough to torture myself the next one and a half day with making. So I'm probably going to go with one of the other themes from the final round, and maybe squeeze this theme in there afterwards if I feel like it :/

Edit: I don't mean it's objectively a bad theme, because it isn't. There's a whole bunch of stuff that can be done with it. I just personally don't find it a very interesting one.
