I Think I’m In

It’s going to be a crazy weekend, and I’ve never deployed a solo project before (usually I’m just the artist+designer), but what better way to learn than by jumping into the deep end??

Succeed or not I’ll also be looking forward to everyone’s entries.

Cheers!

Bittersweet Defeat

...although I wish it had been a little LESS barren!!

A tiny, untextured hero jumps LEFT or RIGHT around a rugged, barren landscape.

With less than two hours to go, I’ve realized that there’s no clean solution to some of my problems short of starting over with something like Box2D.  With no gameflow or state management implemented and no host configured (which would by themselves take an hour or two even if the gameplay was finished), it looks like this is the end of my run.

It’s been a truly great couple of days getting to this point.  While I’m a little bummed there’s nothing to upload, I’m genuinely proud of what I managed to get done, and the huge amount that I learned along the way.

Tech was:

  • Rails (application setup) – would replace with Node next time to simplify asset loading
  • Phaser by Photon Storm (main game engine) – would replace p2 physics with Box2D next time to solve above-mentioned issues
  • DAME editor by Dambots (map)
  • TexturePacker & PhysicsEditor by CodeAndWeb (texture atlases and collisions)
  • jQuery (minimal – just for loading and parsing the above)

To everyone who made it : Congrats!  I’m looking forward to playing your projects!
To everyone who is still sprinting : Go! Go! Go!

Best,
N
