Hi & themes

Hi all, next (aka coming) Jam I will be asisting wouter52 besides being sweet 馃槅 Not the actual programming however, all that will be his. My part will be very small as I take a looksie around besides helping out with feedback on other games. Something I found very enjoyable the past times!

Anyhow, first step was the themes- here are my first time ever suggestions!Screenshotem20230414-192534/emChrome.jpg

Lots... Of themes

I did iiit! My gosh going through all the themes... Don't exactly have a favourite. It does appear I like more than most who posted already. My choices are mostly made based on if I can make a story based on the theme. Those regarding mechanics, as I cannot program, were faster a no for me. Anyhow, I got through the list and am pretty pleased to have managed not looking up everything  Screenshotem20230420-003526/emChrome.jpg

Observation - Randomness themes

I know this ends up the raw feed, but still can try. I was checking out everyones screenshots on the slaughter round, having been told the slaughtering is at random (which eould be the most fair and effective). My eye goes to those who have in the pictures the last themes voted for, disregarding if they yay or nayed it. There be a reasonable amount who have the same themes in that list of the last few. Which with 2k+ themes that supposedly are randomly given to you... Is weird.

Once, sure. Twice, alright? But its more... And these be not those with many duplicates if any. The added pictures are from three different users. It seems not really random for me like that, but I am not too known on this all.

Sigh. I WAS planning to add pictures, but cannot seemingly anymore. So you'll have to find them if interested. The ones that got my attention all start with the themes Diving, Arcane, Flowers. Examples be those of Adam, Geckoo and Astrydax on the homepage.

Introducing again~

Having seen your message @pov , short but sweet before I wrestle with my tasks again- Hi! I am Lizz and the partner in life and these jam of @wouter52 . I have no experience in programming so starting small and assist Wouter with many things that go beyond providing and sharing snacks. Lover of D&D, like to write stories. What else... Well, I am very excited to try out and rate games coming weeks.

Story puzzle & nap time

I am thankful @wouter52 programs this, the work is just as much as I expected! I have because of reasons a limited time I can focus, appears todays (saturdays) limit has been reached. Don't get me wrong, enjoying it a looot~

The story idea (which be a puzzle cause randomness of details) like writing it and ordering/structurizing it all in a readable way was fun for 6 hours, the last 2 have been a pain before I dropped anything I wanted to do extra for now/'today'. Having had an hour to one and a half fun with pixel art. My partner can now work further with what I have, and I see again how much extra to add after he is further ahead and knows more.

My gosh, deep respect for everyone who does this alone. But also working in a team which can be quite the mental task! :100:

Ah and btw... The raw feed sucks currently, ahem. For updates and pictures see Wouter untill I'm whitelisted if not done yet. (No hurry!) Edit: heeey whitelist! :confetti_ball:

Progresss~

Storywise I have the idea ready, the main elements are in the game. I did however fall over the way it was put on the screen. To put it simple, I have a bit of experience in typesetting, proofreading and quality checking. Not for games, but for manga. Those unfamiliar, imagine a comic. Sooo... I am having a document right now in front of me I finally understand how to use and edit it to my liking without screwing with programming: Yay!

Besides that, I have found I like working with 'graphics'. So added a picture of some pixel art put in a frame [hospital themed]. It is nice to do it in between.!sprites the gathering resized.png

For now however, the typesetting. After it the begin and end screens followed by sounds and lastly more graphics~

Suggestions~

I'll be joining a certain team under lead of @wouter52, but doing less this time then before as I have another something to do (getting a D&D voice chat campaign ready). Still though, here are my suggestions for the theme!!

I somehow cannot upload the picture, but...: - Picture perfect - Moon - Guard

I missed the slaughter round!

Oh well, I have been sick and not doing anything... Did manage to take a looksie at the final round so... Here it is!Screenshotem20230929-005505/emChrome.jpg

I'm in!

For how much remains the question, but I'll be supporting and assisting my SO (@wouter52) again (like with the game 'Burn out'). For now though, the themes I suggested:20240331_154504.jpg

Solo? +themes

Imma try to make a game, no clue what program but aiming for something I can click into eachother- I have no experience in programming language. Suggestions are welcome! If it does not work then there is a next time.

Oh and themes! - Weather - Emergency procedure

Good luck!

Well I am pretty nervous, but with the help a few gave (1,5y ago ahem still thank you for the recommendations) I found and experimented with some programs for my first solo Jam. Twine is the winner, which does mean a few categories will be skipped but so be it- I have very limited focus and energy afteral. Works well with such simple program, plus its less stressfull for the beginner (story loving) me. 馃摎

If I finish or not is not my main focus, nor my scores if I manage. Going to try, enjoy and meanwhile cheer others on isss~! So...

Good luck and enjoy in advance! 馃崁

Progress 'Friday' - Text adventure Unnamed

I live at night, so I am counting this progress as friday for now  Anyways, I have been having a good time despite the nerves and actually getting some symptoms I am getting sick.

First, the theme had me cheering. Even though I had not made notes of what I would make with which themes for multiple reasons [costs me energy I need and I might get disappointed or stuck] "Tiny creatures" was one of my few green, +1, choices in the final round. My relieve it did not become strange machines was biiig! Why? Well I likely could have managed, but machines are even more out of my comfort zones so to use the limited Twine to just do everything in text format would have forced me to get some description help from the AI. A thing I want to avoid as this is my challenge, not the bot.

Anyhow, I started with a Pinterest board to visualize the theme better. Wishing to not get into the insects too much, as a single creature. Ontop of that, the theme is a plural form. With the help of the images I made my mindmap, a form of brainstorming.

As I finished, I was planning to go to bed and rest. My plan is to do just a few hours a day on this project so it stays fun and to avoid over-scoping [if its called like that] like crazy. Plus a few personal reasons. Anyways... I ended up working a few hours on the text as I let a friend of mine read my mindmap and the prologue I wanted to use.

Friend: Thats fun ^^

Me: Whyyyy is it fun?

Friend: I just like that humor especially with last one

I as a person thrive on these moments, anxiety being a b*tch plus other stuff. I was confident enough to just start. Honestly, it is far from perfect and it will be not as grand as I see others do- But I am happy with the start!

Untitled.png

For now, kicking myself to bed and trying to not spoil the theme for my SO who will find out later. I really want to ramble and tell him about stuff but patience is virtue~ Good luck ya all. :hugging:

Progress 'Saturday' - Text adventure unnamed

What a blessing I don't have to worry about so many elements of game-making! Really, a ton of respect to those that sit about all day at their PC to do anything and everything.

I am just thankful I am halfway with the story. I might have forgotten the more branches you nake, the more time a text adventure will take not only to make (plus complicated) but also to play. Best I don't make peeps feel like they have to read a book. I hope it is interesting enough to play a few times to see enough.

Anyhow, my back and head are killing me. Don't forget to hydrate guys ^^

Progress 'Sunday' - Text adventure

Well... It is quite late Monday already, I am pretty tired... But also very excited. The game itself is actually finished enough! There likely are some mistakes around, be it grammar or otherwise but there is an actual story with different choices you can follow. I decided to have 'endings' and a 'To be continued' screen. This is to not make a book out of it, 72 hours is already short, and even though I am only focused on some aspects as I have no worries about sounds and what else... All. I. Have. Been. Doing... Is write a story- I am so done with it  Now I get the despair of my SO when he made a story-game, doing the same for hours upon hours upon hours... And I don't even put more then 12 hours a day or so in it. Besides that, it won't help for the ratings people stop midway, I rather have them play twice and more if they are able to then read one full route. It made to be a story that allows you via other routes to get different information to understand the setup.

Anyhow, this is how my screen looked like when I was finished, all spoilers have been taken out. storytreeld56 feed.png

Now off to bed, I figured out how to upload it to itch. io, so tomorrow only the description page and some banner or something left... After finally putting my SO at it to play. My back, oh dear... :older_woman:

Progress 'Monday' - And published!

Unbelievable, but I made it without (major) anxiety issues. My solo game is published and in the list of the Jams. Today I took out a small mistake, worked on the description I had typed a draft on my phone before sleep finally overtook me and made some simple art to add. Having a black screen only does not really attract players, during gameplay you will see enough black already  Anyhow, putting nerves aside I present to you...

icon Mimic.png

I know I can do better, but I am satisfied with everything I did and have learned. I showed myself I can do it, despite all my uncertainty. Have to say though, I am very nervous for the feedback but not backing out now. Have a good night!

Side note: I have no clue how to add links and keep them working here in the messages, so please be so kind to just press my name if you wish to play. :blue_heart:

Mobile friendly

Hiya guys, I would like some games I can play on my phone, in bed basically or on the couch with my SO next to me. Sitting behind the PC is a struggle right now. :bed:

So, add your game below if it is and I'll try them out when able!

Time for a break

Don't forget to care for yourselves everyone!

Solo success

I somehow got enough ratings pretty fast despite Mimic being 'just' a text adventure. Its not 'just' anymore now with the feedback that is positive and guiding- Plus how frustrated I could get with only writing, writing and more... WRITING  . Goals for next time (when solo) in order of importance: - Experiment with the thing called stylesheet more. - Learn how to add art. - Learn how to add sounds.

I hope to continue keep rating other games (no downloads usually) but for now I have to prepare my DMing sessions as LD56 delayed them  After that, my priority is to play web games of those who left feedback with me and the dangerzone ones. :blueheart:

There will be a next time, solo when SO is with his friend. I will continue practicing this kind of game and with Twine! LD is perfect to give met one time projects to learn with purely because of being able to do things and the great community.

4am

There is nothing more fun then getting up at eam, 4am in the morning!~ I'm joking. Thats when I usually go to bed. Brainstorm just ended with @wouter52 so after breakfast he'll be starting while I go to sleep (just doing a small support role this time again).

I look forward to what he sets up 馃グ

For all the early, late and in-between birds: Enjoy your adventure!

Ludum Dare 58

Joining~

This time I will accompany my SO again during the process. What will I be doing? While the programming is a no, everything else I can assist. I hope to assist with story, music and graphics fitting SO his programming style.

These be the themes I suggested! Screenshot_20250921-213047.Chrome.png Elements: periodic table, weather, Avatar like, parts of something...

Lore: I love stories be it via mechanics, graphics , music, writing... However it seems that folklore has been struggling. Maybe too specific? So, what if we simplify it to lore?
