Ludum Dare 54

Started late, but still very ambitious

Basically started 2 hours late or so, saw the theme and thought I can do something cool at least. I have a pretty good idea on what to do but it may potentially be too ambitious for now but I'm willing to take the risk. Right now got in mind of a somewhat psychological thriller that takes advantage of very small (limited :D) spaces to invoke isolated feelings in the player.

-> Excuse the legitimately terrible drawn image of the layout of my game <-

I have a general idea of the layout of the rooms but now need to flesh it out.

Initial beginnings

I've spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out exactly what I want to do for this Jam, and I feel like I got something really strong but tough to accomplish in the the time left. Right now I have the beginnings of the map design, which will become a lot more limited soon due to the hording habits of my character here. With the goal being to clean their incredibly cluttered apartment, the life of a shut in is tough.

Still needs some work but I'm getting there.

Good Progress But Far Behind

So far I've made pretty good progress with map development and general but the overall development has been super slow and being distracted by some relevant issues when dealing with Godot did not help :(. Worst case I wont be able to fully accomplish everything I wanted, so may need to cut back but I really don't want that so I'm still gonna go all out.

Much Further Along, No Need To Sleep, Only Jam

I've been working relentlessly on trying to get this whole thing finished before the Compo deadline, it's gonna be incredibly tough and probably close but there's still a solid shot. I have the core game mechanics down, now to implement some of the final parts and then work on actually making some music, which will be undoubtedly be my weakest area for this whole jam.

Here's a little teaser ahead of time for now.

Finished, but not finished

Screenshot 2023-10-01 200923.jpg Sadly due to time constraints and how I started late, I couldn't go all out and get everything I wanted from my ambitious project. But so far I've learnt so much more than I originally expected from how fast I was rapidly developing, I was going from model to developing and running relevant code within minutes.

I'm impressed of what I have so far, but I know it could be so much better, but I decided for certain I was going for the Compo as I want the challenge, even though the Jam has enticed me more than once.

Anyways I'll soon be publishing the full game, hope you guys try and like it.

Post-Ludum Recovery and Embed Hell

After finishing my game last night, I was incredibly tired. After non stop working for so long I needed some sleep, and after waking up I still feel the fatigue lol. I realised that as the embed uploaded for my game it didn't actually work, so I'm pretty sad to realise there's no web version available, until now.

If anyone wants to give a hand at my game, feel free!

It's been super interesting in seeing the responses to my game, I've really enjoyed seeing how people have experimented and broken it in different ways lol.

I've yet to see anyone actually find the secrets or the ending of my game just yet but we'll see :P

Heya, just checking up to see if its okay to edit my Compo game page to add my itch.io link, as I don't know if that will opt me out of something or cause issues?

Reflection On My First LD

Screenshot 2023-10-22 at 01.10.37.png

I'd first like to thank everyone who played and rated my game, seriously really enjoyed reading all the feedback and it's genuinely fun to see people experiment and try to approach the game in different ways.

Things I'd like to reflect on during development is definitely my approach on scoping the game, I probs took on a bit too much on, especially for a Compo game. Even saying that, I believe I achieved a lot that I set out to do at the cost of my weekends sleep :P. I got most of what I wanted out developed and the I believe I got the mood of the game down.

Even saying all that, I basically got no music done for the game and never got to finish my real endings, which feels like I never got to hit the real note I wanted. Pretty sad about all that as I feel like that would've truly completed my game but I'm happy for what I did.

I will say what I find super interesting was I got the MyHouse.wad effect I intended which is super cool, most people didn't see the rest of the game and only saw a partial amount. Genuinely loved seeing the comments try to figure out what the game was hiding.

With that, I've learnt a lot and I'am definitely glad I did this Ludum Dare, took long enough since I was missing prior ones so for this to be my first submission I'm happy!

Personal update on progress

Realised I haven't actually posted yet since other team members gave out updates but thought might as well. Right now we've made pretty significant progress since starting and have some enemies and attack developed, there still needs to be some work on improving the feel and speed of the player and the flow of gameplay. But besides from all that, I'm happy what me and everyone's achieved so far.

Game Finished, Crunch Was Real, Go Play Ciggy!

Screenshot 2025-04-08 013643.jpg

After a tiresome 72 hours of development, we have finally finished (as much as we could). I'm happy with what we were able to do and got the game we mostly imagined. Obviously with a few bugs and issues, the game can be improved but I'm happy with how the final result looks.

Thanks for everyone in my team for the help and contribution they've given and done, and I'm proud of what we've done.

Now enough emotional slop, try out our game:
