LD 40

Our first LD and we are loving the response

Almost forty ratings received and we are stoked. We were close to give up on Friday night after not finding that idea that hit the trade-off of awesomeness and do-ability. But the next noon with a clear head and a strong intention of going through this experience we came up with this idea of a simplified version of one of the ideas we had during our brainstorming session.

At the end of the development we were pretty happy with what we had achieved, but now we are even more happy at how good people are reacting to the game. It's true the game isn't perfect and it has some rough edges to be polished. Thanks to all the feedback we are getting, we now know which are the most important ones.

So far we are loving the whole LD experience, developing, playing games and sharing feedback with fellow game devs.

If you haven't tried Greedy Merchants out you can do so here. We hope you enjoy it and please leave us your feedback!

The Art and Music of Greedy Merchants

We have received a lot of good reviews about the art and sound of our game, although we didn't made any of it ourselves. So we wanted to have the courtesy of formally thanking the artists behind it.

Art

All art in the game including fonts and UI comes from Kenney, so a special thanks to him. You can find his assets on his website: https://kenney.nl/

Sound

Sound was a lot more varied but we ended up finding all that we needed, we did a little editing of some of the tracks and we leveled all the volumes to bring them all into balance. Here is a list of the sound assets we are using, We want to thank all of the sound authors for the.m:

On balancing Greedy Merchants

If you haven't played Greedy Merchants I recommend you do so before continue reading this, but maybe before leaving your feedback come back and check the questions below.

We had a lot of great feedback about the game, but just a few regarding the game balance. After you learn how to play the game well it becomes clear that the game is really unbalanced in favor of pirates. Although this was done on purpose to follow the LD theme, we are thinking that this might become a bit boring when playing this in multiplayer. Since all players would have the same strategy.

So we are looking for ways to help those greedy merchants out a bit. We already have a few ideas written down on our notepads. Like allowing the player to save coins at some point in the map like a treasure island, or allow the player to drop coins behind him in order to help him out on a chase.

However we are open for suggestions from the community. So please share any ideas regarding cool ways to make this game more fun in a multiplayer game.
