Ludum Dare 48

Nearly done just gotta add music but idk how to make music ):

That feel when your game is mostly done except for sfx and music and you barely know how anything related too sound design works

First time participating. How do i include source code?

Im trying too upload my game but it says too include the source code, what does it mean by that and how do i add it?

Finally completed my game.

Finally finished my game and gonna spent the rest of the day sleeping (: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/48/the-golden-cavern LD-A man with a dream.JPG

My theme suggestions for LD51 not too sound arrogant but i think they are good

Look back on LD51

ITGROWSscreen1.PNG

It grows is propably my best Jam game thus far its better in every aspect compared to my LD49 game(unstable clown kidnap you in cabin(i am still horrified at that game)) and it manages to be better then my LD48 game(golden cavern) too. I hope this is a sign of progress and that my future projects will go as well as this one too

Decided to make a meme out of my games assets about my yearly LD jam struggles

Review of my own compo entry: "ItGrows"

Hello i am the dev of the little compo entry called "ItGrows". One of the 18 people who played this game of mine may remember it and prolly remember it being very mediocre. So lets get into it i will be discussing the game in the following segments(seperated with game screenshots). 1.Development 2.Reception 3.Personal rating

Jamgame meme.PNG 1. Development It grows was made in a very short time between around 8-10 hours total there are 2 reasons for this 1. I had work saterday removing a big chunk of time i had to make the game(about 10 hours total) lastly is the switching of engines ItGrows originally was gonna be made on Unity but after running into some trouble(which mainly comes from me being a sucky programmer). As such after a goodnight sleep i switched to Clickteam Fusion 2.5(an engine i am much more experienced with) and while switching engines midjam is generally a bad idea i felt(and still do) that this was one of the times where i benefited from it sadly my time on unity was still wasted. After switching to clickteam i made quick progress but i failed to include many things that i wanted to(like better ai, more gameplay, environment pieces and tank tread trails) half of these to be honest had less to do with actual difficulty and more to do with not feeling like doing more art(which honestly i regret now knowing how much it would have improved the product but whats in the past is in the past). I did however have time to make 2 of my friends playtest my game which is why my original release had both the 1.0 and 1.1 version to choose from with the 1.1 version being post playtesting.(and adding a few more paths and a waypoint back to the landing pad after collecting all the items) ITGROWSscreen2.PNG 2. General reception. The general reception was surprisingly positive although there were criticisms which i already knew about or can agree with in hindsight. Ill list them all below.

  1. Wall bounce is very annoying. (while i personally didnt find it annoying with reflection i can see how it can be a turn-off for alot of people)
  2. Lack of clarity (this one specifically is one i really kicked myself for, for comitting the 3 big tutorial sins: -1. no ingame tutorial. -2. All is explained in chunks of text -3. The tutorial is optional despite me knowing damn well everyone(including me) will skip it that way)
  3. Camera too zoomed in(this is the one point i do disagree with the camera zoomed in is because the game was made in the same resolution as the gameboy itself which i did for authenticity to the artstyle, i also feel it adds a degree of tention to the game).
  4. fuzzy graphics (yeah clickteam does that with scaling its weird).
  5. Theme isnt very clear (yeah i have no explanation for this one i am just an idiot and only added the monster growing every 10 seconds part in the description like 3 days after voting began) ITGROWSscreen3.PNG
  6. Personal rating. While i am quite proud of this game and i consider it in my top 3 best games(which might be considered sad but idc) along with golden cavern and duelitten i do however recognize that this game is far from perfect at best i consider it a short fun time-waster at worst an annoying mediocre mess. So what would be my scoring if i gave it one?

Fun - 3,5 (i can enjoy my time with this game because its right up my alley being a themed short and sweet horror game afteral)

Innovation - 2 (its your standard horror game shlock you are being chased and are on a fetch quest like 99% of horror games ill give it a bit of credit for some unique monster mechanics and tank controls which you dont see alot of anymore)

Theme - 3 (the theme certainly is there but it isnt really noticeable unless the monster is right up your behind the entire time)

Graphics - 3,5 (eventough there arent alot of environment pieces i am actually a really big fan of the games artstyle but it could have definetly benefited from more artwork)

Audio - 2,5 (the music changing with the items collected is fun but ugh the main menu theme and the theme for when you only have 0-1 items collected are so bad tbh)

Humor - 3 (i actually think the worm looks goofy as hell so i find them very entertaining to look at xD)

Mood - 4 (the one thing i think the game truly excells at is the frantic tension of the race to collect items while being chased and making it really seem like a GB game)

Overal - 3 (its serviceable but not anything special)

My theme suggestions for LD 53

Suggestions LD53.PNG

All in all i think they are relatively decent

I'm in and excited too be making something again

i sadly was not able too come up with a game last jam so i hope that i have the opportunity too make something this jam again. My goal will be the same as my last jam which is too make something better then i made last time. And considering my other jam entries looked like this: ItGrows.png KillerKlown.PNG GoldenCavern1.jpg

I think there is a very good chance that with the skills i gained over the years that i might make something better then what i did before. I wish everyone else luck with their projects as well ^_^

Progress for today and unused game ideas of mine

While i didnt make the progress i wanted mostly because of me not finding a good game idea for a few hours until i finally found the idea too make a game about a bird that delivers things across various levels. My plan is too make atleast 10 levels so we will see how that pans out. Image of my current art progress: Birdgame.png

I also wanted too share some of my unused game ideas incase anyone else i still looking for an idea this might be inspirational:

My first idea was too make a top down game where you deliver monsters too peoples house this would require you too make the monsters chase you first and then you lure them too the apropriate locations. (i ended up not making it because i find top down games really boring too make)

My second idea was inspired by a past ludum dare game i really liked called bomb squirrel, in this game you would play as a kobold explosive delivery guy who would run around various vertical platform style levels, only the kobold is really clumsy so every few seconds the kobold would drop a random explosive like a timed bomb, landmine, bouncing grenade and frag grenade too name a few. Image of my progress on the spritesheet for this idea. LudumDare53.png I ended up not going forward with it, parly because i couldnt make the virtual boy aesthetic work and partly because despite being a fun concept i just couldnt find the energy too spend on it for unknown reasons(but i might still make it in the future)

Lastly i considered making a game in rpg maker about playing as a fetus in the womb trying too get out and it would have very crude and bizarre humour, i decided too not too make that one for obvious reasons.

So this was my progress report for the day and i am excited too finish my current game which im currently calling Pigeon Post Tomorrow (:.

Goodnight everyone and i hope your game progress is going better then mine ^_^

The release of my entry: PigeonPost. Did i do better then last jam?

PigeonPostLogo.png

So PigeonPost my compo entry has been fully released. Now with a goodnight sleep after the satisfying release i can look back with a clear mind and ask myself. Did i complete my challenge? Is this better then my previous entries.

PP2.PNG

In this post i will be comparing PigeonPost too my past 3 entries and judge whether i truly made something better. My current and previous entries are linked below if you are curious, or you can just click on my profile. https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/53/pigeonpost https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/51/itgrows https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/unstableclownkidnapyou https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/48/the-golden-cavern

Cat1: mood. ItGrows - 4 points PigeonPost - 3 points golden cavern - 2 points unstable clown - 1 point

Starting out with mood it suffices too say that PigeonPost doesnt hold a candle too ItGrows and only ranks so high because the other 2 competitors are even worse. While pigeonpost does hold a full subpar soundtrack and a colorful artstyle, it fails too get close too make an atmosphere unlike ItGrows.

cat2: audio. ItGrows - 4 points PigeonPost - 3 points golden cavern - 2 points unstable clown - 1 point

partly mentioned before. While PigeonPost boasts a full soundtrack, a lot of the tracks loop poorly which really hampers their enjoyment. ItGrows also boasts a full soundtrack but with fewer tracks in total it had a much higher quality.

cat3: graphics. ItGrows - 4 points PigeonPost - 3 points golden cavern - 2 points unstable clown - 1 point

graphically once again PigeonPost is overshadowed by ItGrows, while containing more assets in total, i still prefer the vibe given through ItGrows gameboy colour scheme.

cat4: theme. golden cavern - 4 points PigeonPost - 3 points ItGrows - 2 points unstable clown - 1 point

while technically a tie, i decided too give golden cavern the top spot here. Both golden cavern and PigeonPost display the theme very clearly something ItGrows is a lot more messy in.

cat5: innovation. PigeonPost - 4 points golden cavern - 3 points unstable clown - 2 point ItGrows - 1 points

PigeonPost is by far my most innovative jam game as its the first time i used clickteams physics engine, along with the first game of mine with a level select.

cat6: fun. PigeonPost - 4 points GoldenCavern - 3 points ItGrows - 2 points unstable clown - 1 point

PigeonPost has by far the most gameplay out of all my games boasting 10 levels instead of one big one compared too my previous games, this allowed me too make a diverse amount of music, graphics and mechanics which makes it more fun on a first time playthrough, as well as more fun on repeat playthroughs.

cat7: overall.

  1. PigeonPost - score - 3,3
  2. ItGrows - score -/2,8
  3. GoldenCavern - score/2,7
  4. unstable clown - score/1,2

ultimately while not excelling at every category PigeonPost nonetheless manages too gain enough of an edge too become my new best entry so yes, i successfully did better then last jam. But i still have a long way too go, i hope that one day i can make something nearly as good as one of your entries ^_^. See you all next jam

Just need 10 more ratings. Could you spare a moment of your day ^_^

As the title says my game PigeonPost just needs 10 more ratings at the time of writing this too get a score. I know everyone must be busy but if you could spare a few minutes too play it and leave a review then i would appreciate it very much. https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/53/pigeonpost The game is available for HTML and Windows.

I managed too get in the top 100 in a category!

PP2.PNG Results LD53.PNG

Somehow my dumbass game managed to get in the top 100 in humor! I am honestly flabbergasted. I thought that with my last entry that nearly got in the top 200 in mood was impressive but in my very next attempt i got in the top 100! In humor! I'm sorry too say this but if you found this game funny you should see a doctor because clearly something is wrong with your funny bone xD. Still i would like too use this post too thank everyone who played my game and thank you so much for allowing this achievement too happen! I never imagined i would be able too do this but thanks too you all it did so thanks once again! I hope too see everyone again in 131 days for the next jam ^_^

Ludum Dare 54

I am participating again this year!

So excited for this jam! Last year i somehow managed too get in the top 100 in the comedy category so i hope i can manage too get into the top 100 in a different category this year ^_^ LudumDare54 Themes.PNG Also these are my themes suggestions.

JUST FINISHED AND IM HYPED!!!!!!!

I just finished my newest game CASHBLAZER and i am so hyped for it! I hope it does better then my previous entry PigeonPost! And i cant wait too play all the masterpieces y'all made ^_^ i hope everyone had as fun of a jam i had!

I cant rate any games for some reason?

I was really excited too play and rate some games today but the rating options seem too be gone for me? Is anyone else experiencing this? Have they moved the rating somewhere else or will it only activate after the jam ends? I am really confused

Looking for some horror games made this Ludum Dare

After playing Rusty Barrel i have had an itch for more horror games from this jam, this theme seems like it would get a lot of good horror concepts. So if you made a horror game post it down below and ill be sure too rate, review, and play it

Finished my game

LD47Menu.png Am i satisfied with it? Not at all tbh >_< but i managed it! And i learned a valuable lesson, trying to make a metroidvania for a game jam is a bad idea... I propably should have known that already xD Screen1.PNG
