I like how you have those 2 tiny carrots to contrast the cookies and chips. :)

Chain Pain: Title Screen

I’ve had this section done for a good while (and everything finished but the Play), so I figured I’d share it with you all. I particularly like the Creepy font.

Chain Pain: In-game Screen

Here’s a screenshot of the in-game thing (taken by scrot, I was too lazy to do prt scr), featuring invisible Chains! (Except those holding the player down.) Once I implement the chains graphics I can work on prettifying it a bit more (sad to say what you see here is pretty much the limit of my art capabilities). You’ll understand what everything on the screen is when I release the full thing. =P

Chain Pain: Final Submission

Here it is. All that’s in the zip is the source code and the data; if I get less lazy by the end of today I’ll compile it with PyInstaller and make a Windows executable. Requires Python and PyGame.

Edit: Fun facts that weren’t in the README: Graphics made with Gimp and KolourPaint, sound effects made with my voice with my microphone, the two music files were made in WarioWare Touched’s toyroom using its piano and harmonica. Pretty much all the sounds had to be amplified with Audacity, too. Edit: Another fun fact is that the moving bar thing was inspired from Star Fox Adventures. You remember the Test of Fear? Though I have to say that game’s better than this one. =P

EditEdit: The Zip now contains a standalone EXE file so you can just double click on main.exe if you run Windows.

Edit³: If you want to see the high score system in action, change the best_time.txt file in data/ to something low, like 00:00 (I forgot to do that myself when I packaged it).

I’m a person, who knows what she wants. I’m not the one who has a lot of free time to write comments here and discuss stupid and silly news, like you do. It’s so funny that you all take it seriously, start thinking about it and so on. I would never spend my time on such stupidity. I just want to say that there’s a real word, where you can spread rumors and argue. Why are you doing this online? You look so funny!

This “morning’s” breakfast

Lucky me, I had waffles! Of course this wasn’t really morning, as I woke up around 2pm… But it was a nice way to start off the last day at least.

Pre-compo food and setup

Everyone ought to have a healthy breakfast, even if it’s at 3pm and it’s Taquitos…

taqitos

And of course around the two hour mark it’s time for dinner already.

spaghetti

And finally I have my setup just the way I want it.

setup

I hope things go better this time around; though I’m not quite sure what I’ll use my second lappy for at the moment…Both are running Gentoo, so both are all ready for any developing. =P

Looking at these low-quality photos reminds me that I need to get a new camera…Or maybe recharge the batteries…

Stop those vehicles! Early screenshot.

Well, this guy failed. Obviously the grey dude is the main character, and a tank. Obviously the pink square is a regular car, the yellow thing is a bus, and the blueish thing is a van. And apparently none of them know how to park (but that will soon be remedied). All the graphics are being made in KolourPaint (which is pretty much just like MS Paint, but for Linux), using only the colors that are there when you start it up.

If you let what happened to this guy happen to you, you are failing at minimizing the competition for the blue goodness…

Breakfast

Well, my first breakfast was so good and I so hungry that I ate it before I realized I should have taken a picture. Here’s the remains:

empty

So in spirit of the competition, and because I’m still kind of hungry, I decided to have a second breakfast, hobbit-style! (Though if I were in LotR I’d be more of Gandalf-stature.)

cereal

Yes that’s Golden Crisp, and yes it’s delicious.

Lunch after nap

Well, I was super groggy after the nap, but lunch has made me alive again. Though it was pretty minimal; ham sandwich and grapes with apple juice.

Screenshot 2 – The complete journey

So this is the whole journey of PepsiCo. for its touring of Pepsi Blue. Why does it go from New York to end in Utah? I don’t know, but it does. (That’s right, there are ten levels! I can almost beat the last one without the cheat.) Please pretend the yellowish mass looks like the continental USA. :)

The Hunt for Pepsi Blue–Final

Here’s the link:

http://shared.nincheats.net/zips/ld11-pepsi.zip

Windows executable coming soon. Requires Python and Pygame at the moment.

Newedit: Here’s the link to the WINDOWS version. Had to change directory structure for it to work. Just run main.exe for it.

http://shared.nincheats.net/zips/ld11-pepsi-windows.zip

Edit: The ZIP will contain the windows executable by tomorrow with no changes to anything else. Also, here’s the screenie. If I come up with more theme arguments, I’ll put them here instead of the readme before tomorrow, but I probably won’t because that wouldn’t be minimal. =P

pepsi-shot

(Still part of edit) I didn’t really like the idea after about 4 hours into it, but I decided to continue. I’m not too displeased with the final result, though I wish I had another hour or so to make a nice game over and win screen.

An idea at last!

And now it’s all whiteboard’d (yes I have a big whiteboard). Here’s some really low-quality pics of most of the whiteboard… I’ll actually be surprised with myself if I get everything implemented in time.

+2, for lasers and stick figure genocide

Food for the day.

I woke up around 3pm, having horribly overslept. But I had a good breakfast of cookies and hawaiian punch.

Then later on it was almost dinner time, so I had some Ramen to tide me over. Yes, that’s a Titanium Spork, given to me by the gods.

Then the main meal, steak. Yummy.

I think I’ll have some ice cream later too…

Progress

Due to a little joke in the IRC about my craptacular drawing abilities with the whiteboard, I have decided to call my game Femme Tower. Here’s a screencapture of what’s been done as of about an hour ago… At least my windows are pretty.

Pretty, yes, but in need of more frilly lace.

Femme Tower final

Edit: To all of you who think my game is too hard, I have beaten it twice! =P And the laser collision is just box-based, so if you shoot it diagonally you have tons of whitespace to possibly hit the things with. Also, a bug escaped the final version so the non-evil clouds sometimes get stuck indefinitely. It’s fixed locally but not in the zip; oh well.

Here’s the link, includes source (python + pygame) and windows executable (not guaranteed to work, though I have been told it works):

http://shared.nincheats.net/zips/ld12-femme-tower.zip

(If it doesn’t work try: http://67.212.186.26/~jach/shared/zips/ld12-femme-tower.zip )

Will add post-compo thoughts here later. NOW!

It’s about 20 minutes after now. So, what I did horribly wrong this time around:

I slept in too late twice, got distracted by all sorts of things, felt horrible demotivation and considered dropping out for most of the compo. I also didn’t pace myself well (submitted about 2 minutes prior to the end) so the art and sound could have been slightly better.

This game seemed pretty hard to me and to my EXE tester, but I assure you it is beatable. =P

Priorities

Yeah, spring break happened to fall on this week for me (and it snowed about a foot yesterday), thus I’ve been procrastinating my load of homework which is due Monday and Tuesday.

Oh well, I missed out on LD13 so I’m going to try hard to submit something this time around. I’d like to say I’ve learned Panda3D to try out this time, but… =P I’ll be sticking to PyGame again.

My ‘desk’

Not much, but I’m loaded with mountain dew and snacks for a while. :) I migrated to the couch a few months ago after I got sick of sitting on my hard chair at the counter. (See previous deskphotos.)

Hmm, I have a bunch of random junk around.

lol @ the peeps. always an excess of those around easter :)

Food, and a screenie

First night I had a chicken pot pie.

Second night I had a bunch of ham. (Not pictured.)

This morning (at noon) I refreshed myself with some ham&eggs!

Anyway, here’s a quick screenie of what’s done. (I’ve been kind of lazy this time around.) As you may guess it’s a standard flee-the-wall-of-lava-as-you-run-through-a-cave type thing. Still, even though it’s LD code, I think there’s some good code in here for me to use in the future. (And some very, very bad code.)

Almost done

Gameplay’s all there, now I have 2 and a half hours to add sound and music and fix any bugs that might creep up during that time. For now though I eat my dinner, then shower. And if I get time, you might see an epic food VIDEO from me later on…

Mm, I think I had this same thing during one of the previous LDs.
